Sacred Heart Catholic Church Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time–September 24, 2017 Reflection from the Pastor: Last Thursday, the Church celebrated the feast of St. Matthew, one of the twelve apostles and the author of one of the Gospels. At the beginning of his life, St. Matthew was a tax collector. Nobody likes to pay taxes, but at that time, tax collectors were especially disliked because they were allowed to charge the rate they wanted in addition to the amount set by the government. Tax collectors could become very wealthy at the expense of other people. Religious people in those days excluded publicans from participating in the community. The great novelty of Jesus was to invite sinners to repent and re-enter the community. Jesus invites us to turn away from our sins and to love Him in truth, not just in words. Will not you respond to Jesus' invitation today? Fr. Sacred Heart Catholic Church Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time–September 24, 2017
Reflection from the Pastor:
Last Thursday, the Church celebrated the feast of St. Matthew, one of the
twelve apostles and the author of one of the Gospels. At the beginning of his
life, St. Matthew was a tax collector. Nobody likes to pay taxes, but at that
time, tax collectors were especially
disliked because they were allowed
to charge the rate they wanted in
addition to the amount set by the
government. Tax collectors could
become very wealthy at the expense
of other people. Religious people in
those days excluded publicans from participating in the community. The great
novelty of Jesus was to invite sinners to repent and re-enter the community.
Jesus invites us to turn away from our sins and to love Him in truth, not just
in words. Will not you respond to Jesus' invitation today?
