Sacred Heart Catholic Church Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time–September 24, 2017 Reflection from the Pastor: Last Thursday, the Church celebrated the feast of St. Matthew, one of the twelve apostles and the author of one of the Gospels. At the beginning of his life, St. Matthew was a tax collector. Nobody likes to pay taxes, but at that time, tax collectors were especially disliked because they were allowed to charge the rate they wanted in addition to the amount set by the government. Tax collectors could become very wealthy at the expense of other people. Religious people in those days excluded publicans from participating in the community. The great novelty of Jesus was to invite sinners to repent and re-enter the community. Jesus invites us to turn away from our sins and to love Him in truth, not just in words. Reflection from the Pastor:

Last Thursday, the Church celebrated the feast of St. Matthew, one of the

twelve apostles and the author of one of the Gospels. At the beginning of his

church for the Stewardship Formation

Course. This course is obligatory for all

registered parents of students attending

Sacred Heart School and is open to any parish member.

Knights of Columbus News Our next regular meeting will be on Monday,

September 25th, at 7:30 PM

Disaster Relief Breakfast The Knights of Columbus will be hosting the annual Disaster

Relief Breakfast on Sunday, September

24th after the 9 AM Mass. This comes at

a good time with the horrible disasters

from hurricanes and fires effecting our

nation. We will be serving Pancakes,

Sausage Patties, Scrambled Eggs, Hot

Chocolate and Coffee. Please come and join us for a

wonderful breakfast, and help support the relief effort for all

the families suffering from these disasters.

Knight of the Month Sam and Kay Feist have 5 children. Sam has been a

Knight for 43 years. During this time, he has been Grand

Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, and Recorder and has held

the office of Treasurer for the past 30 years. He is always

there for every event and makes sure there are no

mistakes. Kay is a member of the Altar Society and is

with Sam helping also. Congratulations to Sam and Kay

for being the Knight and Family of the Month.

Help is needed in the classrooms for

PSR on Sunday mornings. An extra set of hands to help the children stay on

task would be greatly appreciated.

Classes are from 10-10:55 AM. This does not have to be on

a weekly basis. Volunteers must be VIRTUS certified. If

you are interested please call the parish office or see Theresa

Clases del Bautismo en español: Las clases pre-

bautismales son obligatorios para todos los padres y

Meditación del Párroco: El jueves pasado, la Iglesia celebró la fiesta de San Mateo, uno de los doce apóstoles y autor de uno de los

Evangelios. Al comienzo de su vida, San Mateo era un recaudador de impuestos. A nadie le gusta pagar

impuestos, pero en aquel tiempo, los recaudadores de impuestos eran especialmente desagradable porque se les

permitió cobrar la tasa que querían, además de la cantidad fijada por el gobierno. Los recaudadores de impuestos

podrían llegar a ser muy ricos a expensas de otras personas. La gente religiosa en esos días excluyó a los

publicanos de participar en la comunidad. La gran novedad de Jesús fue invitar a los pecadores a arrepentirse y

volver a entrar en la comunidad. Jesús nos invita a arrepentirnos de nuestros pecados y amarlo en verdad, no sólo

con palabras. ¿No responderás a la invitación de Jesús hoy?
