FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD and THE BEGINNING OF THE
ORDINARY TIME Today's feast marks the conclusion of the Christmas
Season and the be-ginning of Ordinary Time in the Liturgical
Calendar.
(From the ORDO) During Ordinary Time, the Church celebrates the
fullness of the mystery of the Lord Jesus. The people of God offer
praise by celebrating the Paschal
Mystery of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus.
On the first day of the week, the Lord's Day, God assembles the
beloved people to hear the Word, to reflect upon it, to offer the
living sacrifice of praise, and to eat and drink the banquet of the
Lord. Then God sends them forth to proclaim this love by their
words and actions.
Sunday is the original Christian Feast Day, following the
tradition handed down from Apostolic times, for this was the day of
the Lord's Resurrection. Today's Christian communities continue
this tradition by celebrating every Sunday as the day of the risen
Lord.
SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
During this time of Province-wide restrictions, pa-rishioners
who want to go to
confessions may do so by making an appointment. Please phone the
parish office at 250-564-5225.
PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES
WAYNE JAMES CORNETT died on January 4, 2021. Funeral Mass will
be on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Wayne
is one of our regular parishioners and a member of the Knights of
Columbus. As we pray for the eternal repose of his soul, let's also
say our prayers of comfort for Shirley, his wife.
Blessed are those who have died in the Lord; let them rest from
their labours for their good deeds go with them.
-
PARISHIONERS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN IN PRAYING THE MASS AT THE
PARKING LOT OF THE CATHEDRAL AND SCHOOL
With the Province-wide restrictions now being ex-tended until
February 5, 2021, we will continue offering the Sunday Masses via
livestream and radio broadcasting (FM 102.5).
+ PARK YOUR VEHICLE at the appropriate parking areas around the
church. Vehicles should not park immediately adjacent to one
an-other. Rather, each vehicle should be separated by at least one
parking space. Volunteer traffic control will assist you.
+ STAY in your vehicle at all times.
+ TURN OFF VEHICLE ENGINE. Avoid idling. Be conscious of the
environment. Wear extra sweaters or bring blankets so that you are
prepared for the weather. Remember you will be in your vehicle for
the whole duration of the Mass.
+ TUNE-IN TO OUR FM RADIO BROADCAST 102.5 AND PRAYERFULLY
PARTICIPATE IN THE CELEBRATION OF THE MASS BY LIS-TENING.
Once the Mass starts, stop chatting. You can al-so join in via
livestream through our Facebook page. You need to use your own data
for this.
Holy Communion will be distributed after the final blessing.
The priest will approach each vehicle to distrib-ute Holy
Communion.
To ensure reverence and security of the Blessed Sacrament, we
ask that everyone re-ceive Holy Communion in the hand during this
extraordinary time.
Please extend your hands outside your vehicle to receive Holy
Communion.
For additional safety on the part of the priest, if your vehicle
engine is ON, the priest will not approach your vehicle.
+ COLLECTION ENVELOPE CAN BE DROPPED-OFF TO THE DONATION BOX
ENTRUSTED TO THE VOLUNTEER TRAFFIC CONTROL. + As per Province-wide
restrictions, only 50 vehicles can be permitted in the parking lot.
This will be done on a first come first serve basis.
Sacred Heart School would like to wish all families and
parishion-ers a Happy New Year!
We were so excited to welcome our students
back to school on Monday January 4th, 2021. We have some of our
families participating in a Transi-tional Learning Program that
involves students work-ing from home, with the intent of
transitioning back into school on or before February 1st, 2021. We
look forward to having these students back as well!
We are looking forward to celebrating Catholic Edu-cation Week
the last week of January 2021, with many exciting activities
planned for our students. We look forward to our virtual School and
Parish Mass on Sunday January 24th. We will also host a modi-fied
winter sports day for our students; have an acts of kindness day,
as well as a lunch for our whole school provided by our Parent
Support Group!
With the new year, we are now looking forward to the beginning
of the 2021 – 2022 school year and would like to remind all
families of Kindergarten registration. We are now accepting
applications for our Kinder-garten program that begins in September
2022 and look forward to having many new families joining our
school community!
For more information regarding Kindergarten, please contact the
school via phone at (250) 563-5201, or by email at
[email protected].

FR. RECTOR AWAY - KEEPING IN TOUCH! On Sunday, January 3, I took
off to visit my mother in the Philippines. I will return on
February 4.
When I arrived in Manila on Monday, January 4, together with
other airline passen-gers, we were brought to a
quarantine facility assigned by the Philippine Gov-ernment at
Canyon Woods, Batangas.
Since Canada is one of the countries that now has the new
variant of Covid-19, I need to undergo a 14 days mandatory
quarantine. My Covid-19 test is negative.
I am trying to be as productive in this quarantine pe-riod. I
continue to do some parish/office work, pray the Mass, Liturgy of
the Hours, rosary and of course this time provides for more time of
rest.
I will be finishing this mandatory quarantine on Janu-ary 18 and
will go directly to my mom's place.
While away from the parish, Fr. Miguel Rabino will celebrate the
usual Masses I offer especially on the weekends. Bishop Stephen
Jensen will continue to offer the Sunday Mass at 10:00 AM.
GRATITUDE At the conclusion of the Christmas Season, I would
like to express my gratitude to everyone who assist-ed me in
preparing and decorating the Church for Christmas. These same group
of parishioners were also the one who remove the decorations in
time for the Ordinary Time in the Liturgical Year:
S. Rosviminda Ochoa, RVM
Jun and Celia Roallos
Tony Tabora
Dennis Roallos
Lavarias Family
My thanks also goes to those who assisted us in the
Liturgies:
the cantors and musicians (Dodie, Rita, Therese, Joanne, Jaevie,
S. Vinda, S. Marife, Peter, Carol, Rachele, Jessica and their
respective groups);
the readers (Jukka, Carter, James, Laurie, Na-than, Dennis,
Joseph, Josiah, Laei, Klaire)
the servers (Joseph, Josiah, Dennis)
Ms. Nuala Power for preparing our school chil-dren to proclaim
the Word.
video and technical support for live stream-ing (Leonell Caunan
and Dennis Roallos)
Another special mention: the Knights of Columbus who fulfill the
role of being Traffic Control orga-nized and led by Grand Knight
Pat Egan.
TO ALL PARISHIONERS who have generously given their financial
support in 2020 even in the midst of pandemic. THANK YOU! As you
can observe, it takes many of us to be able to offer and celebrate
well the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Indeed, the church is the Body
of Christ, and we are all active participants, collaborators,
workers in our Lord's vineyard. THANK YOU!
2020-21 COPIES OF SUNDAY MISSAL AVAILABLE
FOR SALE. If you have not yet purchase a copy of
Sunday Missal for 2020-21, there are still copies left
in the parish office. The cost is $7.00 each.
