Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!
Happy Christmas Season! I rejoice that you have gathered with the Sacred Heart worshiping community for
our Eucharistic Liturgy on this Feast of the Holy Family. All are blessed through your prayerful participation. May this sacred time in prayer nurture your faith and lift your spirit. Thanks for joining us! Hope you had a nice Christmas Day with family and friends. Many thanks for your kind words and gestures in this Christmas Season. Today’s Feast of the Holy Family invites us to reflect on our family life, with all its blessings and struggles. Our reflection needs to begin with the reality that no family is perfect. Made up of people with the human flaws that afflict each one of us, families will always be required to put on “heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Family life calls each of us to bear with one another and forgive one another. Today’s Gospel illustrates the struggles every family endures. Jesus, Mary and Joseph went together with relatives to Jerusalem for the Passover. As a teenager, Jesus fails to inform his parents that he was staying in Jerusalem a few extra days. Thinking Jesus was with some of the relatives in the caravan, Mary and Joseph journeyed for a day. Realizing Jesus was not “among their relatives and acquaintances,” they returned to Jerusalem. They found Jesus in the Temple, “sitting in the midst of the teachers.” Mary, more than a little upset, says, “Son, why have you done this to us?” At one time or another, I’m sure most parents have said similar words to their children. Jesus’ response reveals a youthful naivete, as I’m sure your children have had similar responses. In the end, the Holy Family reconciled and went down to Nazareth. In the end that’s our challenge within our families! We are to bear with one another and forgive one another. Recognizing our own flaws often leads us to “heartfelt compassion” which can enable us to forgive. May this Christmas Season be a time
to enrich your family life with kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. May the Peace of Christ find a place in your home. Peace be with you! God bless, Fr. McKee

PRAYER FOR FAMILIES God and Father of us all, in Jesus,
your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family
of the Church. May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity
to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid
of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
