GOSPEL MEDITATION - Staying awake can o#en be a challenge, especially when we are exhausted. Life’s demands have a way of zapping every last bit of energy out of us. When we are "red it affects us not only physically, but psychologically and spiritually as well. All of our senses are dulled and diminished. We can overlook details, become disinterested, lethargic and apathe"c, and detached. Ge%ng sufficient physical rest only helps so much. We need to be rejuvenated, refreshed, and reenergized in other ways. If we are psychologically exhausted, we need to understand what is draining our emo"ons and taxing our rela"onships. If we are spiritually "red, we need to find the necessary “shot in the arm” to put us back in touch with God. Unfortunately, exhaus"on is seldom limited to just one part of who we are. When we lack energy and zeal it is usually the case that everything suffers. We not only are affected physically, but psychologically and spiritually as well. In short, when we run out of gas the engine stops. And yet, our Lord’s direc"ve is clear, “Be vigilant at all "mes.” Even Jesus knew what “the anxie"es of daily life” can do to us. One day pours into another and "me
134 Foundation Anniversary of Missionaries of Saint Charles - Scalabrinians
The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians) is an apostolic community of religious that shares the missionary activity Christ continues in the Church for the realization of the plan of God in the world and in his history.
The world to which we have been called to announce the mystery of salvation is the world of migrants. To fulfill our mission, we share their same life and the very experience of migration, just like Christ, who “by his Incarnation bound himself to the particular social and cultural conditions of the people among whom he lived.” With the approval of Pope Leo XIII, Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini founded our Congregation on November 28, 1887. The Founder place our Congregation under the patronage of St. Charles Borromeo, the model of all those virtues that form the true apostle of Jesus Christ. In spirit of fidelity to the mandate our Founder gave us and in keeping with the realities of the contemporary world, we dedicate ourselves to all those who, because of migration and out of real necessity, require a specific pastoral care. At the present we are present in 33 countries: Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, the Philippines, France, Germany, Japan, Guatemala, Haiti, Indonesia, England, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Mozambique, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Uruguay, U.S.A. Venezuela, and Vietnam. We extend also our helping hands with those who decided to leave their homeland to work abroad and likewise with refugees, fishermen and seafarers.
