DO YOU BOOGIE?: Nicknamed “Boogie” by Kentucky Assistant Coach Rod Strickland, DeMarcus Cousins was a orce or the Kings in 2010-11. Cousins set a newSacramento-era rookie record or total rebounds in a season with 699, surpassing Lionel Simmons’ mark o 697, set in 1990-91. Averaging 8.6 rebounds a game, Cousinsalso became the rst rookie in the Sacramento era since Simmons to lead the team in rebounding. Cousins scored a career-high 30 points (6-13 FG, 0-1 3pt, 18-21 FT)
while recording a game-high-tying nine rebounds, one assists, three steals, and one block against the Thunder on April 11. His 18 ree throws made and 21 attempts setnew Sacramento-era rookie single-game records. Cousins’ 17 second-hal ree throw attempts tied an ARCO Arena/Power Balance Pavilion record set by Kevin Martin inthe second hal o the March 7, 2008 game vs. Minnesota. With 14 second-hal ree throws made, Cousins ell just one make shy o Martin’s arena record o 15 in a hal,also set in that March 7th contest.
CLEANING THE GLASS OFFENSIVELY: The Kings nished second in the NBA in oensive rebounds per game, gathering 13.1 oensive boards a game. Minnesota led theNBA in oensive boards with a 13.2 average. Sacramento was ourth in the NBA in rebounding (43.9 rpg). The Kings were second in the league in second-chance points(15.5 ppg), behind Minnesota (16.2 ppg).
WITHOUT EVANS: Tyreke Evans missed the April 11th game vs. Oklahoma City due to a sprained let ankle suered the previous night at Golden State. It was theourth time this season Evans missed a game due to the same injury (1/9, 1/11, and 1/12). The Kings were 6-20 in his absence in 2010-11 (Kings were 2-8 in 2009-10without Evans in the lineup).
CLOSE, BUT ...: This season, the Kings were 12-19 in games decided by ve points or less. In 2009-10, Sacramento posted a 13-9 mark in games decided by ve pointsor less.
SECOND HALF SURGE: Marcus Thornton’s statistics improved in the second hal o the season (ater the NBA All-Star Weekend) or the second straight season. Here’s acloser look at how he ares beore and ater the NBA All-Star break:
Since the NBA trading deadline (February 24), Marcus Thornton ranked amongthe league’s best in scoring. He led all players who changed teams this season inpoint dierential (+13.5), improving rom 7.8 ppg with New Orleans to 21.3 withSacramento. Thornton nished second, behind New York’s Carmelo Anthony (26.3ppg), or the highest scoring average with a new team.

KINGS’ LAST GAMELA LAKERS 116, SACRAMENTO 108 OTApril 13, 2011 - Once again the Lakers ruined the moment or the Kings. Kobe Bry-ant scored a game-high 36 points, including a three-pointer with 4.8 seconds letin regulation to orce overtime as the Lakers secured the No. 2 playo seed in theWestern Conerence with a 116-108 win over the Kings at Power Balance Pavilionin the nal game o the 2010-11 regular season.
The Kings used a 26-4 run to ght back rom a 20-point decit (91-71, 9:44 let inthe ourth quarter) to take a two-point lead, 97-95, with 1:22 remaining. Sacramentohad a three-point lead, 99-96, with 9.6 seconds let, but Bryant nailed a three-pointerwith 4.8 seconds let to send the game into overtime. In the extra session, the Kingstook a one-point lead, 103-102, with 3:54 let but the Lakers went on a 11-0 run ora 113-103 advantage with 35.2 seconds let and all but end the Kings’ season.
“I told Phil (Jackson) that it was tting that it would end this way,” Bryant said. “Itjust didn’t seem like a blowout victory was going to happen, just because o all thehistory that we have. It wound up being history revisited I guess.”
Marcus Thornton nished with a team-high 33 points, six rebounds, our assists,and two steals. Samuel Dalembert recorded his 16th double-double o the seasonwith 16 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Tyreke Evans tallied 19 points, JasonThompson contributed 16 points, and Beno Udrih scored 11 points o the bench.
DeMarcus Cousins struggled, nishing with six points and six rebounds beore exitingin the ourth quarter ater a second technical oul. Cousins set a new Sacramento-erarecord or total rebounds in a season or a rookie, surpassing Lionel Simmons’ marko 697 in 1990-91. He also became the rst rookie to lead the Kings in rebounding(8.6rpg) since Simmons did in 1990-91.
Pau Gasol recorded a double-double with 18 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Lamar Odom added 22 points. Shannon Brown had 15 points o the bench andDerek Fisher scored 11 points.

THORNTON IS INSTANT OFFENSE: Marcus Thornton scored 11 o his team-high 21 points in the ourth quarter in the Kings’ 104-103 win at Golden State on April 11.Thornton had just six points in the rst hal. At Philadelphia (on March 27), he tallied 19 points (7-9 FG, 3-3 3pt, 2-2 FT) in the third quarter. He had just three points inthe rst hal and nished with a game-high 32 points. His 19 points in the third quarter were the most points scored by a Kings player in a quarter this season. Thornton’s28 points in the second hal also set a new season high or points scored in a hal.
FOUR IN A ROW: With the 116-113 win over the Suns Tuesday night (3/29), the Kings earned their ourth straight win, the longest winning streak o the season. It was thelongest winning streak since the Kings won our games twice during the 2009-10 season (11/25 - 12/2/09 and 11/7 - 11/13/09).

COMEBACKS: The Kings rallied rom a 17-point decit against Toronto on November 1 or a 111-108 win at ARCO Arena. It marked the second straight game in whichthe Kings had to overcome a double-gure decit. At Cleveland, on October 30, the Kings won, 107-104 ater alling behind by as many as 16 points. The previous nightat New Jersey, the Kings regrouped ater spotting the Nets an 18-point lead, but eventually ell, 106-100. The rst our games o the season were decided in the closingseconds o the ourth quarter.
ROAD TRIP: The Kings nished their ve-game road trip with a 4-1 record. It’s the rst time since the 2005-06 season the Kings won our
or more games on a road trip o ve or more games. Ater earning a 32-point win at Minnesota (3/20), the Kings absorbed a 40-point lossat Chicago (3/21). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the rst time in ranchise history the Kings won a game by 30 or morepoints only to lose the next night by 40. The last time that happened in the NBA was during the 1994-95 season when Miami deeated theClippers, 126-83, on 12/29/94 and then lost the next night at Chicago, 88-133. The Kings ollowed the loss at Chicago with wins at Mil-waukee (3/23), Indiana (3/25), and Philadelphia (3/27). It was the rst time this season the Kings won three straight road contests, a eatnot accomplished since the 2007-08 season when they won at New Jersey (12/18), Milwaukee (12/19), and New York (1/2). In 2005-06,Sacramento won our o ve games with victories at Cleveland (3/1/06), Atlanta (3/2), New Jersey (3/6), and Milwaukee (3/8). The lonesetback came at Washington (3/5).
40-SOMETHING: Marcus Thornton scored a career-high 42 points (13-20 FG, 4-7 3pt, 12-14 FT) against the Warriors in the Kings’ 129-119win on Monday (3/14) at the Power Balance Pavilion. The 12 ree throws made and 14 ree throw attempts were also new career highs.Thornton’s previous career scoring mark was 37, set on Feb. 23, 2010 at Cleveland. The last time a Kings player had scored 40 or morepoints was on Nov. 2, 2009 when Kevin Martin tallied 48 points in 127-116 overtime win over the Grizzlies.
THORNTON’S HOME DEBUT: Marcus Thornton scored 29 points (9-16 FG, 1-4 3pt, 10-12 FT), scoring the most points o the bench in a home debut or the Kings in theSacramento era, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. His 29 points ranks second or the most points scored in the rst home appearance in the Sacramento era trailingMitch Richmond’s 35 points. Thornton is averaging 19.3 ppg (.476 FG%, .308 3pt%, .778 FT%), 3.3 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 27.7 mpg in three games o the bench since joiningthe Kings
HASSAN WHITESIDE UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY: Kings center Hassan Whiteside underwent successul surgery March 4 at the UC Davis Medical Center to repair
a partially torn patellar tendon in his let knee. Dr. Richard Marder perormed the surgery. Whiteside will miss our to six months o action and should be available by thestart o the Kings’ 2011-12 Training Camp.
KINGS ACTIVE BEFORE TRADING DEADLINE AGAIN: On February 24th, the NBA trading deadline, the Kings made their second trade in as many days, acquiring orward-guard Marquis Daniels and cash considerations rom Boston in exchange or a protected second-round pick in the 2017 NBA Drat. On the previous day, the Kings acquiredguard Marcus Thornton and cash considerations in a trade with the New Orleans Hornets in exchange or orward Carl Landry. The Kings have been active in six o the lastseven seasons. The only season in the past seven in which the Kings did not make a trade was during the 2006-07 season. Last season, on the deadline day, the Kingstraded three players -- Kevin Martin, Hilton Armstrong, Sergio Rodriguez; acquired our players -- Joey Dorsey, Carl Landry, Larry Hughes, Dominic McGuire; and waivedone -- Kenny Thomas.
IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: The Kings swept a back-to-back set or the rst time this season, with victories over the Lakers and Hornets. On Friday, January 29, the Kingsstunned the deending NBA champion Lakers on their home foor, 100-95. Sacramento then ollowed that win with a 102-96 decision over the Hornets, ending New Orleans’10-game win streak. The last ve wins the Kings have earned have come against playo-contending teams - Denver, New York, Portland, LA Lakers, and New Orleans.According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last time a team played two consecutive games while at least 10 games under .500 against opponents at least ten games over .500and won them both was near the end o last season when Detroit deeated Atlanta on April 7, 2010 and deeated Miami on April 9, 2010.
FROM ELIAS SAYS:DALEMBERT IS BACK! - From Elias: Samuel Dalembert’s return to Philadelphia might not have ranked with those o AllenIverson, Donovan McNabb, or even the Rocky statue or celebrity sizzle. But Dalembert’s 19 rebounds in support o MarcusThornton’s 32 points was an integral part o the Kings’ 114-111 overtime victory at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday. Only oneother ormer 76ers player recorded as many rebounds as Dalembert in his rst game back in Philadelphia, and it wasn’t evenWilt Chamberlain. Moses Malone grabbed 21 rebounds or the Washington Bullets in his return to The Spectrum on ChristmasDay 1986. For the record, Wilt had 17 rebounds and scored 15 points his rst game back in Philadelphia ater being tradedto the Lakers in 1968.
ROOKIE ROUTS LAKERS - From Elias: DeMarcus Cousins had 27 points and 10 rebounds in the Kings road win against theLakers. COUSINS HANDLES HORNETS - From Elias: DeMarcus Cousins had 25 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in the Kings’triumph over the Hornets. Cousins became the rst Kings rookie in 20 years to reach each o those statistical levels in onegame. KINGS’ ROSTER: The Kings currently have 14 players on their roster. Francisco Garcia, the longest tenured King (ve seasons) and newcomer Samuel Dalembert are the oldestKings players at 30 and 29 years old, respectively. There are ve players who are under 23 years old. Last season, the Kings were one o the youngest teams in the league.O the 14 players, nine o them have less than three years o NBA experience. Dalembert has logged the most NBA seasons on the roster, having played eight seasons.

DeMARCUS COUSINS SHINES IN ROOKIE CHALLENGE: DeMarcus Cousins recorded a game-high 33 points (15-24 FG, 0-1 3pt, 3-5 FT), a team-high14 rebounds, one assist, three steals, and one block in 27 minutes in helping the Rookies to a 148-140 win over the Sophomores on Friday night(2/18) in the T-Moblie Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam. Cousins’ ormer Kentucky teammate John Wall was named the MVP o the game ater tallying12 points and an all-time Rookie Challenge record 22 assists.
EVANS MISSES ROOKIE CHALLENGE: Tyreke Evans missed the 2011 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam due to plantar asciitis in his let oot. KINGS ACQUIRE THORNTON: One day beore the league’s trade deadline day (Thursday, February 23), the Kings acquired guard Marcus Thornton and cash considerationsin a trade with the New Orleans Hornets in exchange or orward Carl Landry.
Thornton, a 6-4, 205-pound guard, is currently in his second NBA season ater being selected out o LSU with the 43rd overall pick in the 2009 NBA Drat. He has amassedcareer averages o 11.9 ppg (.440 FG%, .374 3FG%, .798 FT%), 2.9 rpg, and 1.3 apg through 119 contests. GAME-WINNING BUZZER-BEATER: Tyreke Evans’ 50-oot shot at the buzzer gave the Kings a 100-98 win over the Grizzlies on December 29, ending an eight-game los-ing streak. The Kings last game-winning buzzer beater was made by Kevin Martin at Seattle on January 27, 2008 (103-101). The last time a Kings player made a shot othat distance was on January 27, 2001, when Jason Williams hit a 57-oot shot against the Clippers at Los Angeles. This was Evans’ rst career buzzer-beater, but lastseason the Rookie o the Year made several clutch shots. On February 28, 2010, vs. the Clippers, Evans made consecutive driving lay-ups to turn a 91-90 lead into a95-90 advantage with 42.9 seconds let in the ourth quarter. On February 26 against the Jazz at ARCO Arena, Evans hit a jumper with 14.8 seconds let to give the Kingsa 102-97 lead. KINGS RECALL HASSAN WHITESIDE: On January 9, the Sacramento Kings recalled center Hassan Whiteside rom the Reno Bighorns o the D-League.
