Cindy Fields - Community Service - 456-4918 - [email protected]

The Harsh Reality of the World comes into view of our faith family here at ICC. Now, as we head into the season of rain – frost – chill of the night & damp mornings, not only do I begin thinking of where I put my

shoes with covered toes, warmer car coat, driving gloves & window scraper – my attention turns to many of our homeless & disadvantaged friends who have many more dire needs.

Just last weekend I met a new guest who is looking for size 15 bunny boots. He lives in a dry cabin (he calls a ‘shack in the woods’), & he walks to & from his place on a daily search of warmth, food & to fill his water jug. It is hurts my heart to envision his meager lifestyle & try to comprehend the pain. What other solution is there for him? Even now, freezing to death is a real possibility. After a long walk ‘home’, he crawls into a sleeping bag & has a blanket as a bedroll. He found a little bit of nourishment in town but he says he is always hungry. At this temperature, his feet are quite susceptible to the chill. We gave him clean dry socks. He seems desperately alone in the “wilderness.” Jesus in the garden? We prayed & I invited him to the Healing & Blessing Service. Our new friend will be back, he said.

Pray with me for all those who have no one to pray with, no bed or home & hurt beyond imagining. We walk with these friends as we

walk with our Savior & Co-Redeemer, our Mother. We have the great blessing to talk with those who trust us. Those who are not yet comfortable, we simply see Jesus & console Him with a greeting of Love & welcome & the offer of a nourishing meal. Every volunteer ‘gets it’ & provides the Love of Jesus in their smiles. The process of healing is grand & sobering & dignified & extremely spiritual for each of us. The parish of Immaculate Conception prays for their needs every day.

With Blessed Mother’s protection & guidance, we look & find Jesus in the ‘garden’ during these fateful & divine encounters. She holds each other up as we walk with Him on His last earthy journey. Every day we are shown horrific suffering & harsh reality of this world. We stand together at the foot of the Cross reaching up to touch His feet, collecting the last drops of precious blood, so to keep it from falling & mixing with the dust below. Tenderly we kiss His sacred body & taste His precious blood on our lips. Daily, we are compelled to answer YES - opening wide our mind, body & soul to fully accept His Merciful Unconditional Love. Together in response to the Will of the Trinity & Mother of Mercy residing within, we gladly continue our journey to bring “Thy Kingdom Come – Thy will be done – On Earth as it is in Heaven.” Amen.

Religious Education: Now is the time to start thinking about training our catechists for the upcoming catechetical year. Last year we piloted the use of online catechetical training from Fides Catholic Apostolate based in Florida. Despite several hiccups with access, those that completed the courses were generally pleased with the content. This year we will again offer two opportunities for online training, once in the fall and once in the spring. This fall we will be working with Fides to offer the “Let Us Pray” module of their training. Like last year the 10-hour online course will begin with an introductory webinar on Saturday, Sept. 16th (time TBD). Individual catechists are asked to register online at: https://fidesformation.com/product-category/fairbanks/ The cost for the course is $29.95 per person. Parishes are encouraged to offer some sort of partial or full reimbursement to their catechists who successfully complete the course. Please be sure that you register for the DIOCESE OF FAIRBANKS course and not another diocese that Fides works with. Catechists who complete the six-module series over a period of three years will have master catechist status with the diocese. For more info please contact Fr. Robert Fath, Diocese of Fairbanks, Office of Faith and Family Formation 374-9511 or [email protected].
