AMALIA IN ITALY By Ainara López Aguado & Marisol Martínez Suero

Sabinar Speaks interviewed our Mathsteacher, Amalia. This way we could have ateacher's viewpoint about the trip to Italy.

SS: What do you think about the experience of your trip to Italy?

A: The experience has been very positive. I had a lot of fun thanks to myworkmates Iván and Jesús, and the students who went to the trip.

SS: Were there any moments that made you want to return to Spain?

A: There wasn't a moment that made me want to come back to Spain. However, I was stressed out in the Vaticano, when some students gotlost because the place was so busy, and until we were all together, I wasnervous.

SS: What was the best thing about the trip?

A: The best thing about the trip was toget to know my workmates Iván andJesús and the students of the 4th levela little bit better.

SS: Were you sure at first about doingthe trip?

A: Yes, almost from the first moment, Ispent half an hour to decide if I wantedto go.

8

Page 9: Sabinar Speaks #6, June 2015

SS: Which was the city that you liked the most? Why?

A: I liked all of them, each one hadits own special charm. Rome hasbeautiful monuments such as theColiseum. Venice looks like a fairytale, with its canals. Pisa is alsobeautiful. I think the one that I likedmost is Florence, because of thestreet atmosphere. It seemed tome more welcoming than the othercities.

SS: Which was the city you liked the least? Why?

A: I liked them all, but I would choose Pisa because it was the smallestone.

SS: Do you have any funny experiences to tell us?

A: We had a lot of them. We went to a disco that was located far awayfrom the hotel, we had to climb a little mountain with our heels on... Well, that was more tiring than funny, but now that I remember it I laugh. I alsoremember Ramon's jokes on the people. In Pisa one student gave him afive to a boy that was taking the typical photo with the tower. We have avideo recording of that moment.

SS: Would you repeat the experience? Why?

A: Of course I would repeat it, with students like you.

SS: What country would you like to go to, instead of Italy?

A: I went to Italy for my school trip when I was a student, and I wouldlove to go there again, but if I had to choose another place I woulddefinitely go to France. I'd like to see Paris.

SS: What was the thing that you liked the most about Italy?

A: What I liked the most were the streets, because everywhere there'ssomething beautiful to see. However, it would be perfect if theycontrolled the street sellers.

SS: Thank you, Amalia.

A SHORT NEWS SUMMARYby Ana Iepure & Judit Martín Cervantes

Cultural Activities with our British VisitorsWhile here, the British studentsspent a wonderful week knowingour town, our province and evenother parts of Andalusia.

After landing on Monday, onTuesday they visited Almería and allthe most important corners of thecity. On Wednesday they travelledto Granada. On Thursday, therewas an official reception at the TownHall of Roquetas (with provincialpress items included) and then theyvisited some landmarks of the town. Finally, on Friday they wentcanyoning in Sierra Alhamilla.

Our only regret is the bad weather that accompanied our visitors...

Talking about Addiction in AdolescenceIn April the school activities were opened to thecommunity of parents of IES Sabinar. A talk organisedby the AMPA and directed to parents completed theschedule of activities. In addition to the agenda and, tothe organisers' satisfaction, the activity filled the spacechosen for it, the utility room with seating for over 80people. Both the theme chosen by the parents, and thediffusion that has been made of it, concluded with asuccessful participation, like everything that is done inour school, for our students' benefit.

Because we are aware that the involvement of our students's parents, and their training, contribute in one way or another to the best education of the students.

Sabinar Botanical GardenThe plants came courtesy of ASPRODESA. Diversificationstudents spent part of their school day working in the schoolgardens and yards.

The idea is to build our own botanicalgarden with native plants of our land:dwarf palm, palm trees, rosemary, lavender and aloe vera are somenames that our students mayrecognise without leaving the school,in their science lessons.

There is still a lot of work to do to finish the planting, andsubsequent work focused on maintenance tasks. These taskswill have the support of ASPRODESA, who have beenorganising the beacon of plants, placing their names next toeach sample, and even building some birdhouses.

LipdubSome weeks ago our school website – http://www.ies-sabinar.com – published our firstlipdub, in which many teachers and students participated. Although the project has beenin mind for two years, our music teacher took the baton in January and has been workingon it so far. Finally, it was recorded with quite simple resources to be in the 21 st century, but the work, effort and enthusiasm of all has been captured on the video.

Watch the lipdub on YouTube: https://youtu.be/dpl2xFmehHE

Picture ExhibitionOne more year, our Art students of 4º ESO have carried out a pictureexhibition with their paintings, using the techniques and skills that theirloved Art teacher taught them. Last Tuesday 2nd June the artists, togetherwith some friends and relatives, and in the presence of some Town HallCouncillors, saw their paintings shown at El Parador.

Sports

JUGGERBy Nahuel Martín [4º ESO B]

Jügger is a team sport created in Germany between 1989 and 1995. Itcombines ball sports with fight sports. The team is made up by five players ineach team that must try to score, trying to stop the enemy from scoring.

In jugger the players play with aball called jugger and with paddedweapons. The team is made upby 4 soldiers with weapons andone that carries the jugger.

The weapons are a Q-tip or drive,a slash, two swords, a shield anda chain. The duration of a juggergame is two halves of 100intervals of 1.5 to 2 seconds thatare marked acoustically by apercussion instrument.

There are jugger tournaments around the world. The most importantcountries that play this sport are Germany, Great Britain, Australia and Spain.

In Spain there are a lot ofassociations that let peopleplay this sport, and onevariation of it is calledHeavy Combat, whichconsists of 1 vs 1 “realistic”combats with paddedweapons.

I think that this is a great sport, and very funny, too.

Music

By Beni Somesan

Born in Los Angeles, California, onthe 15th of January 1988, Skrillex isone of the most famous electronicmusic artists of our decade. He wasa hardcore artist, too. His real nameis Sonny John Moore.

Along his career as an artist ofelectronic music, Skrillex has beennominated for a lot of prizes. InNovember 2011 he was nominated forfive categories at the Grammy Awardsand won three of these nominations. His most famous songs that have givenhim that popularity are “Cinema” and“Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”.Then, in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 hewon other prizes, like best album, bestsong of the year, best video dance andmany more.

In his personal life he had a personal relationship with Ellie Gouldin in 2011,but because of the distance they ended their relation in 2012.

My favourite songs are “Cinema” and “Kyoto” because they motivate you andhelp you do exercise or any other sports. I think he will be a very importantartist in the future like he is nowadays, and an inspiration for other artists.

Entertainment

By Paula Alcázar Martínez (4º ESO A)

Pretty Little Liars is an American teen drama mistey-thriller based on thepopular book series of the same title, written by Sara Shepard.

Set in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, the series follows thelives of four girls, Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin, Emily Fields and SpencerHastings, whose clique falls apart after the disapperance of their leader,Alison DiLaurentis. One year later, the friends are reunited as they beginreceiving messages from a mysterious person named “A”, who threatens toexpose their deepest secrets, including ones they thought only Alison knew.At first, they think it's Alison herself, but after her body is found, the girlsrealize that someone else is plannning on ruining their perfect lives.

I personally recomend this series to people who like mysteries, crimes anddramas because Pretty Little Liars has all of them in its plot. It's one of myfavourite TV series, although I have to watch it online and in English (fromseason 4 to 6) because it's not translated into Spanish. And it always keepsyou on the edge of your seat!!

THE INTERNET– Advantages and DisadvantagesBy Clara Moreno Aranda (2º Bachillerato)

As we know, the Internet is a very important invention which makesour life easier. But, like everything, it has some advantages anddisadvantages.

On the one hand, the Internet can be used in a lot of ways. Forinstance, to search information, if you are doing a project and youare not sure about something or you only want to check somethingthat is interesting for you. Furthermore, it has also improved our wayof working. Nowadays, there are many jobs that you can do fromhome and you don't have to go to the office. In addition, you canmeet people from different countries and speak with them. TheInternet gets you the possibility of using social networks with whichyou can see pictures of your friends and family.

On the other hand, in recent years, the number of people who areaddicted to the social networks has increased. That can be verydangerous because there are a lot of people that have lost theirfriends due to the fact that they don't want to go outside becausethey prefer to stay at home playing games with other people fromdifferent countries. And that can be unhealthy, too.

As far as I am concerned, the Internet has completely changed myway of living. As everything else it has disadvantages, too, but it canbe very useful if you know how to use it.

Narrative

DARK NIGHT

By Vanessa Pérez Antequera (1º Bachillerato)

One day, some time ago, my brother and I were camping in the forest, and it was late atnight when we suddenly heard a strange noise outside the tent. At first we just thought itmight be an animal looking for food but then, we heard a terrible voice saying: "You'llnever escape from here". In that moment, all I could do was scream as never before. Iwas so afraid! Luckily, my brother was able to keep calm and he just said: "Don't worry! It's probaby just a joke!". After that, I relaxed a bit.

All of a sudden, the tent flew away even though it was well attached to the floor. It wasabsolutely dark outside, but we could see a shadow running. Next, we heard somescreams coming from the woods. But after that, there was just silence. We heard nothingmore for the whole night, but we couldn't fall asleep again anyway.

When the sun began to shine and we could see, we quickly picked up our things and weran to the car. We didn't want to stay there one more minute. So we just left, and lucklily,it all ended just as the strangest night of our lives.

A FRIGHT By Darya Fedenko (1º Bachillerato)

First of all, we went out to the Woods to go camping all night. We set up our tents andlit a fire. Then we decided to cook dinner. While we were cooking, we heard strangenoises in the forest and Jack dediced to go check it out. Soon enough we heard himscreaming and ran to the spot where he had disappeared. We looked for him for a whilebut I couldn’t find him anywhere. Finally, we were about to call the police whensomeone pointed at a nearby tree where Jack had been sitting all the time we weresearching for him. We laughed about the prank and went back to the fire.

LAUGHS!By Lucía Peña Cordero (2º Bachillerato)

This goes back to the middle of last year.

I have to say that I was totally paranoid and with a low self-esteem. Not thebest I've ever been, although everything gets better!

Well, I'd just met a girl. At first she was a good person. Then it was a horribleevening for me, so I decided to open up my heart and tell her all what I wasgoing through. It ended fine, I felt that I could trust her. During that longevening she was fine with me.

It all began when we had our free time, the next day and the following ones.My friends and I were spending that time together, as usual, peacefully, untilshe passed by my side with a friend while they were laughing out loud, dayafter day, and she didn't greet me.

Suddenly, my mind thought she was laughing at me and my problems. I didn'twant to tell anyone, not even my friends, my thoughts. Until one day I brokedown crying in class. No one noticed it. Later, I told one of my friends whatI was thinking and she agreed with me.

Soon, this girl realised that I was getting bitter with her, so she tried to solvethe problem by speaking with me. Before I knew her good intentions I hadjust shut up my mouth and avoided her. Meanwhile, she was trying to solvewhat was going on, so she tried to guess what was happening to me byspeaking with my friends.

Fortunately, I finished the row. The funny thing was that she was so nervouswhen she passed by my side that she couldn't even look at me because shehad a crush on me!
