LawPLUS MENTOR APPLICATIONS NOW

OPEN!

Looking for an opportunity to get more

involved at our law school?

Then don’t miss your chance to apply to be a LawPLUS mentor in 2013!

The program is a joint initiative of the Law Faculty and Law Society, and aims to support new law students by organising regular group meetings, social events and skills workshops. NSW YOUNG LAWYERS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE

The NSW Young Lawyers Committee consists of a diverse and active group of young lawyers and volunteers who all share a commitment to affecting change within the areas of Human Rights. Whether it’s writing submissions to Parliament, organising forums in Martin Place or staging social events, the Human Rights Committee is dedicated to achieving its objectives of raising awareness about

Australian and international human rights issues, lobbying and commenting on legislative and policy changes at both federal and state levels and providing education to the legal profession and wider community about Human Rights and the Rule of Law. One of the projects the Committee is currently in the process of undertaking is assisting ‘Save the Children’, an independent organisation that is committed to breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. If you have an interest in child rights and would like to be involved in helping Save the Children analyse the concluding observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and start to plan to put those concluding observations into action, then please contact Nathan Kennedy at [email protected] The Australia-India Business Council will be running its Young Professionals Mentorship Program for the third consecutive year in 2012. This exciting 16-week program connects aspiring young professionals interested in Australia-India Business relations with the expertise, insights and networks of today's leaders. Mentees looking for professional guidance and support in the developmental stages of their careers are matched with mentors looking to tap into up-and-coming talent and build their networks. If you are interested in participating in the Mentorship Program, please contact Carolyn Dorrian at [email protected] The Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month at the Law Society Building, 170 Phillip Street Sydney. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 10th October 2012 at 6pm. APPLICATIONS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW MOOT HAVE OPENED

Applications open for the International Intellectual Property Law Moot! This competition is held by the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre. The 2013 problem addresses the functions that are performed by different forms of intellectual property protection, especially when these overlap. In particular, the Problem raises the question of the extent to which trade mark protection should be available to a drug manufacturer following the expiry of a pharmaceutical patent. UNSW Law Society will be sending a team of two competitors. Participation in the oral rounds is by invitation only, on the basis of two written memorials prepared by teams by the 14th of December 2012.

The oral proceedings will comprise four

preliminary rounds, followed by Quarter-

Finals, Semi-Finals and a Grand Final.

Applications are due by the 1st of October at

5pm.

Please send your applications or questions
