This Sunday we celebrate “Christ the King Sunday” or “The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King”. This feast was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI and it is celebrated on the final Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Sunday before Advent. “The Church really is the Mystical Body of the Risen Christ. That Body is inseparably joined to the Head. Jesus Christ is alive, he has been raised, and he continues His redemptive mission now through the Church, of which we are members. As we choose to actually live our lives liturgically, not just go through the motions, we can move through life in the flow of the liturgical calendar. We can experience the deeper mystery and meaning of life, now made New in Jesus Christ, the One who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6,7) Jesus Christ is King! Jesus Christ is meant to become the Lord of our whole lives, and inform the very pattern of how we live them”. As we read this is the last Sunday of ordinary time; The Church will now begin the Season of Advent. The Meaning of "Advent" The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival." The focus of the entire season is preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. This Liturgical Season begins the Church Year and it lasts for four weeks. Happy New Years! (When Advent begins). This is a time of preparation for the Feast of the Nativity and It is observed with some fasting, prayers, and meditation. It is somewhat penitential yet not without a spirit of joy, hope, and anticipation. Therefore it is a good time for a renewal of our Faith, vows and commitment to live out our lives as our true identity, Catholics. Begin now to recommit yourselves to our faith, planning new ways to enliven your spiritual lives. I promise you that I will be doing the same and seeking out what I can do to continually serve as your Pastor and Spiritual leader.
