FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Parishioners, Friends, Neighbors, Drop-Ins and Passers-by, Merry Christmas!

The lights and the sights of the season surround us. And here in Sugar Land, in unison with many parishes throughout the world, we sing the familiar opening line of a beloved Christ-mas hymn: Adeste fideles læti triumphantes! O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! Maybe this rings true for you. Maybe it doesn’t. Maybe your life as of late has been filled with more disappointments or setbacks than triumphs. Perhaps this year has been anything but joyful for you – marked by the loss of a loved one, the wounds of a vicious political cy-cle, or the heartbreaking images of pain and violence on the news (or in your news feed). Maybe the struggle to stay faithful to God has become more difficult; maybe you left that struggle long ago. No matter what, the invitation still rings out: Come.

O come, in your joy and your wonder, your hurt and confusion. Come, because God knows you at your best and at your worst, and wants to be with you anyway. Come, because the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. As Our Lord says him-self, “Come, you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Regardless of where you’re coming from, we are glad that you came. Saint Theresa Catho-lic Church is a place that stands ready to help you accept that invitation in an ever deeper way in your life. Call, e-mail, or write any time – all year long. Or just drop by the church or chapel for a few minutes of quiet with the King of Angels, now in flesh appearing. Whether you are here for a visit or to stay, come, let us adore Him. Welcome home.

Estimados Parroquianos, Amigos, Vecinos, Huéspedes y Pasajeros, ¡Feliz Navidad!

Bienvenido a casa.

Thanksgiving After Mass I thank you, holy Lord, almighty Father, eternal God, who deigned to feast me, sinful and unworthy servant, with the precious body and blood of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, not for any merit of mine, but only be-cause of your merciful goodness. And I pray that this Holy Communion, far from con-demning me to punishment, may bring about my pardon and salvation, encompassing me with the armor of faith and the shield of a good will. By it let my vices be done away, all lustful desires extinguished. May it advance me in charity, patience, humility, obedience, and every other virtue. Let it be strong defense against the wiles of all my enemies, visible and invisible, allaying for me every disturbance of flesh and spirit, binding me firmly to you, the one true God, and bringing my last hour to a happy close. I pray, too, that it may be your pleasure to call my sinful self one day to that banquet, wonderful past all telling, where you, with your Son and the Holy Spirit, feast your saints with the vision of yourself, who are true light, the fulfillment of all desires, the joy that knows no ending, gladness unalloyed, and perfect bliss: through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

G S M : The hopelessness and sadness that comes from experiencing the loss of a loved one can leave us frozen in place, just trying to cope with everyday life. Support groups are an important tool for finding hope and coping tools on this journey. We are a group of compassionate lay people who also have experienced the death of someone we dearly loved. Join us to listen and share, because no one should grieve alone! For more information please contact Sandy Barber at 281-633-9090 or [email protected]. Perpetual Adoration Ministry: The perpetual adoration ministry is a Eucharistic devotion where people commit to taking an hour to praise and worship Jesus before the Most Blessed Sacrament. The hour you sign up for is spent in silent prayer and meditation. You may bring your own prayer books, use the books in the chapel, read the Bible, pray the rosary, or just sit and enjoy the peace that comes from simply being in the Presence of God. Adoration is in the Emmaus Chapel, it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information please contact Rebecca Freeman (281) 844-4616. C U : Our vision is to be a service ministry organ-ization, effectively using our gifts and talents to serve the needs within and outside our community. Our mission is to actively encourage involvement in church activities by mem-bers of our Spanish-speaking community, to take the lead in celebrating religious feasts, to be available and lend a helping hand to both the church and fellow parishioners, and to pro-mote higher education by granting scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are registered parishioners. For more information please contact George Morales, Jr. at 281-565-5469. Lay Carmelites Ministry: The Lay Carmelites are an order, not an organization. They are one of the oldest religious orders that follow the contemplative life. They live their daily lives in a secular society, evangelizing, serving, and follow-ing the examples of the many Carmelite Saints. For more information please contact Tonie Arizpe at 832-715-6281.

M B B Please contact Cheryl Pospisil ([email protected]) with any updates to the Military bulletin board in the narthex. This in-cludes adding new pictures or updating the information currently on the board. Photos (with accompanying descriptions) can also be dropped off at the church office.

Loving Embrace is a Catholic educational support group for couples who have endured or are presently enduring the pain and suffering of infertility. The group pro-vides support for coping with infertility and explores resources, methods, and options that are morally faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church. For rotation information contact Shan-non Lassen at 832-978-6716 or [email protected].

O God, who wonderfully created the dignity of human nature and still more wonderfully restored it, grant, we pray, that we may

share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
