Last Weekend’s Regular Collection

From Father Mike
Last weekend all the parishes announced the new assignments of priests that
will be effective June 29, 2020. A complete list will be published in the next edition
of the Catholic Moment. I announced that Fr. Andrew DeKeyser will be the new
Pastor and Fr. Jeff Martin will be the new Parochial Vicar of the our soon-be-
formed pastorate that will include St. Peter in Winamac, St. Joseph in Pulaski, and
St. Francis Solano in Francisville with our own parishes in Rochester, Monterey, and
Kewanna. I will be reassigned to the pastorate of St. Augusta in Lake Village, St.
Cecilia in Demotte, and Our Sorrowful Mother in Wheatfield. Soon Parish Transition
Teams will be named that will develop an extensive profile of each parish. This
information will be what informs future conversations and decisions in the coming
months. While the combination of these big changes with lots of uncertainty
about the road ahead can fill many with anxiety, as a people of faith we choose
to be energized about our renewal as missionary disciples, maintaining the
perspective that Saint Paul gives the Romans in today’s second reading: “…we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…and we boast in hope of the
glory of God. And hope does not disappoint…”
Also, I wanted to alert you to the insert in this weekend’s bulletin that describes
in more detail the appeal this month for the CRS Collection. This is in addition to
the Rice Bowl program, which also benefits Catholic Relief Services, the official
charity organization of the U.S. Catholic Church to those in need abroad. It is
consistently rated as one of the most effective and efficient charities of any in this
country. Our support of CRS is one way we are already fulfilling the third pillar of
Uniting in Heart in giving witness to our faith by being a community who reaches
out beyond our parish and national borders to help the poor.
