UPDATE

Year-to-date August 31, 2014

Sundays 9:30 a.m.

OCTOBER IS ... “PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH”

E ach October our members are reminded that the month of October is designated for us to show our appreciation

and gratitude to our three Trinity Pastors for their leadership and everyday expressions of God’s Love and guidance that they provide to our congregation. God has given them the awesome responsibility of leading His Church and showing us the many ways that we can serve God and grow in His word.

JEREMIAH 3:15: And I will give you leaders after my own heart, who will guide you with knowledge and understanding.

God has provided Trinity with the leadership to continue to serve Him, and we should all express our thanks to these leaders not only during the month of October but throughout the entire year. Please take the time to show

your appreciation for our Trinity Pastors. The Pastors are supported by their loving spouses in their ministry, and we should also acknowledge their contributions as they also continue to help us grow in God’s Word. Your Church Council

A basket for cards & notes will be available at Grand

Central during the month of October. Let's show our Pastors how much we appreciate them!

SEPTEMBER COUNCIL NOTES by Judy Dicke, Council Secretary

Trinity Lutheran Church Council met September 8, 2014, in the Fireside Room. President Kendall Christensen called the meeting to order. Pastor White led the recharge.

Pastor White reported the Constitution and Bylaws Committee met to review congregational input and began to redraft the proposed changes. They should be ready to report to the Council at their next meeting.

Three designs for the Chancel remodeling project were posted and discussed. Pastor White suggested that the Design Team and Council meet to discuss the designs and approve one design by late October. A capital campaign would then begin and run through 2015. This timeline would allow for renovations to begin after Christmas 2014 and be completed by April 2015. Pastor also suggested that this project be divided into two phases. Phase one would include demolition, remodeling and carpeting; and phase two would include line array speakers and lighting.

Doris Cerny, Missions Board Member, presented the Missions Board quarterly report. The Missions Conference will be the weekend of September 13 and 14 at Trinity with LAMP and SAT7 presenting at breakfasts, a brunch, coffee hours, all weekend Services and the Education Hour on Sunday morning. Doris also reported that Trinity Members are packaging Mercy Meals in Norfolk every third Tuesday.

Pastor Nestor reported to Pastor White that two television cameras need to be replaced. Pastor Nestor received two bids for the cameras and accessories. The cameras and accessories will be purchased from funds designated by the financial secretary and the balance from Extra Mile funds.

The Finance Committee is short one member. Dan Mickey volunteered to serve on the Committee.

The meeting closed with prayer. The next Council Meeting will be October 13, 2014, at 7 p.m.

A SPRING BOARD … NOT A HAMMOCK by Pastor Nestor

Matthew’s Gospel chapter 15 verse 30 informs us, “Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at Jesus feet; and He healed them.”

Folks invited friends, neighbors and others to meet Jesus. There were exciting results. Verse 31 tells us: “The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.” The BLIND … Some in those villages sat in a world of darkness: they could hear the voices of other people excitedly calling them for the Master was visiting their area. The blind neighbor must only come and respond in simple faith. He could not see; he was expected to accept the testimony of other people

encouraging him to come to Jesus? Some are physically blind … most of us have BLIND SPOTS.

The LAME … oh, perhaps once he had walked, but of late years he was obliged to use crutches. He too was invited as he hobbled

along the edges of the crowd on that mountainside. Leaning on his crutches, he listened … listened to Jesus! Oh, he would agree that these crutches were a poor substitute for strong legs, but they were trustworthy! You ever find yourself hobbling along in life, putting up with the brokenness in your heart? The MUTE … standing there silently in the crowd; his eyesight is good. He has a strong walk to his life, but is he a

secret disciple? Never really having made a public confession of Christ, he would love to kneel at Jesus feet. But, what would people think? Others would be watching … oh my, what would they say?

Friends, God does not look at your past to decide your future! Many others were there gathered on that mountainside who were crippled in one way or another—injured in life’s daily encounters. Like those who responded to an invitation that day, don’t let your past limit your dreams and the touch God would gift in your life! It was Edmund Burke who said, “The past should be a springboard, not a hammock.” Verse 32 tells us Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion for these people....”

Jesus has not changed. With life’s pains, they all knelt at Jesus feet.

SOMEONE ELSE’S OBITUARY

O ur church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else.

Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years; and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it." Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group."

It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.

Someone Else was a wonderful person—sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do.

Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

When you are asked to help this year, remember—we can't depend on Someone Else anymore.

Fall 2013 Review Night Fun - getting mummified

These Third Graders not only received Bibles but also participated in three sessions of “Using My Bible” class with their parents. What a testimony for the value of God’s Word when parents spend their time and money like this and then present the Bibles publicly in a Worship Service.

These kids are so ready to dig in and learn what God has for them. This little age-appropriate Adventure Bible, with all the extra helps, will be a gift that truly keeps on giving!
