BIG MOVER AWARD - EILEEN DUNGER Eileen has come ahead in leaps and bounds, both socially and in her studies, over the past couple of years here at Niagara Park Public School.

She has worked to create and maintain relationships with her peers and, as a result, makes positive contributions during cooperative group work as well as in social situations. Eileen takes turns and strives to communicate clearly with her group members.

Eileen’s work ethic is extremely impressive; she does her best in all tasks and continually shows perseverance and a “never give up” attitude towards her studies. She shows pride in her work at all times and strives to improve in all areas of her schooling.

Eileen is a cheerful, hard working and diligent student. She should be enormously proud of the effort she makes, both with her friends at school and in her determined attitude towards her studies.

Well done Eileen!

SPORTING SNIPPETS BRISBANE WATERS ZONE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

Last Friday, our Zone Cross Country team travelled to Wyoming Public School to run in the Brisbane Water PSSA Cross Country Carnival. All of the students were magnificent on the day, with all students putting in their very best effort for the school. Students encouraged each other and it was great to see the team spirit showed by our students both towards our own students and students from other schools. Kirra Hodge, Jesse Walker, Erin Malone and Ashley Owen were all successful in making it through to the Sydney North Carnival.

Also a special mention to the Girls 8/9 years team who finished 3rd overall. The 11 years Boys team who finished 2nd overall and the 12/13 years Girls team who placed 1st overall.

Thank you to all the parents/carers for transporting their children to the carnival. I was very impressed with all of our student’s behaviour and commitment on the day. You all represented your school extremely well.

Elliot Dawkins and Dane Hartshorn Cross Country Coordinators BOYS CRICKET

On Thursday, our Boys Cricket team travelled to Patrick Croke Oval in Kincumber to play Round 2 of the PSSA Knockout Competition against Empire Bay Public School. We were forced to bat first after losing the toss, something that we weren’t all that familiar with. This didn’t change the focus as we sent out our openers, Liam and Jesse. Both of these boys batted until having to retire on 40 respectively. Bailey also batted spectacularly, finishing unbeaten on 36 and Harley came on at the end for 1 run unbeaten also. We ended up on 166, averaging 6.64 runs per over after 25 overs, an absolutely AMAZING effort! We sent in Empire Bay Public School after lunch, keeping in mind that we needed to bowl tightly and field well to defend our total. Bailey opened up the attack and finished off with 1/2 off 3 overs. Liam had 2/2 off 2.3 overs. Jesse had 0/3 off 2 overs. Keegan had 0/5 off 3 overs. Jed had 1/3 off 2 overs. Jarrah had 3/2

off 3 overs. Jaiden had 1/5 off 2 overs. Harley had 1/1 off 2 overs. Harry had 0/2 off 1 over. Will had 0/1 off 1 over and Luke had 0/3 off 1 over. TJ was quick with the gloves today, bagging 3 stumpings and nailing a catch and run out opportunity. We bowled them out for 31 with 2 overs or so remaining, winning by 135 runs, our biggest ever win batting first. We move into Round 3 with our opponent being either Ettalong Public School or Woy Woy South Public School. Details of our next game to be advised. Kurt Briggs Cricket Coordinator

LIBRARY NEWS

Little Free Library This week, we opened our new Little Free Libraries in our infant’s and primary playgrounds! Thank you so much to Mr Curry who was a whizz at whipping up exactly what we had in mind!

Our students were so excited to use our Little Free Libraries and I have heard all about the fabulous books that students have been able to take home!

Little Free Libraries are designed to work as a free book exchange. Students are allowed to take one book per day from the Little Free Library and take it home. Whilst we do not require students to leave a book in order to take a book, we will openly welcome donations of any children’s books please, in order for our Little Free Library to work to its fullest potential and create a cyclic rotation of stock. We are aiming to encourage our students to give as well as receive, and we wholeheartedly thank all of the fabulous families who have either already donated books to our cause or have indicated that they plan to in the future. The only reason why programs like this work in our school, is because we have such a fabulous community. So thank you. If you are aware of any secondhand stores, opportunity shops, charities etc. that may have an over supply of children’s books that they may be willing to donate, please contact me at [email protected] or by phoning the school. We will openly accept secondhand board books, children’s books and young adult age-appropriate novels.

If you have any donations, please do NOT put them into the Little Free Libraries. Please send them to the Library and pop them into the ‘Little Free Library’ tub. This ensures that none of our Library books accidentally end up getting caught up in the Free Library system.

Craft Rolls Many thanks to all of the families that have been bringing in your rolls for our craft project. We now have a mass supply of rolls for our project and do not require any more. Once again, thank you for your efforts, and a special thank you to the Geary family.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Don’t forget to keep registering your books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The challenge closes on Friday 25th August, so get reading!

Growth and Development Did you know that thanks to our fabulous P&C, our Library has a ‘Growth and Development’ section that is full of picture books to support your child in times of need. These books consider topics such as: grief, family break-up, friendships, understanding others with additional needs, feelings, individuality, safety, body safety, health conditions such as asthma and diabetes, starting school, anxiety, families and family hardship, respect, manners and other topics that aid students with their social and emotional development. If you are interested in borrowing any of these books that may help you to spark discussions with your child, please do not hesitate to come and see me in the Library. They are available for borrowing by parents and students. Kayla Frost Teacher Librarian
