Zone Carnival President’s Message - David Sunderland
The 2016 North Metropolitan Zone Carnival was held on the 10th-11th December. In total 230 athletes and 4 relay teams represented Ryde Athletics. Over the weekend I witnessed many fantastic achievements by many talented Ryde athletes. I would like to congratulate all Ryde Athletes that competed at Zone. Personally, I had an enjoyable two days in my role as team manager.
The fantastic results by Ryde saw 140 athletes in the U8-U17 age groups qualify for the Regional Carnival to be held at The Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen on the 11th-12th February. Congratulations and well done to all Ryde athletes. The results for all Zone Events and results per Ryde Athlete are available by clicking on the hyperlink or by visiting the Ryde Athletics website. For further information in regard to the Regional Carnival please visit the Ryde Athletics Regional page or the LANSW Regional Championship page. Any enquiries may be directed to your age manager or The Championships Officer. Congratulations to all of the U7 athletes who competed at their very first Zone Carnival. It was fantastic to observe so many U7’s all having a go and competing to the very best of their ability. Great sportsmanship was also displayed amongst these youngsters. Overall, the U7 age group had some fantastic results with many ‘shining stars’ found in this age group. As U7’s do not progress to Region, 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings were awarded medals. Overall, the Ryde U7’s won 5 GOLD medals, 3 SILVER medals and 5 BRONZE medals. A fantastic effort by the U7’s. The following U7 athletes received medals: Chloe McGregor— GOLD (100m,200m,500m) and SILVER (70m) Luke Moscos - GOLD (70m, 200m) and BRONZE (Discus) Emilia Webb— SILVER (Shot Put) Zakar Balian— SILVER (Shot Put) Mataya Jabre— BRONZE (500m) Kiara Murphy— BRONZE (Shot Put) Sophia Read— BRONZE (Discus) Jason Chong— BRONZE (100m) Two Zone records were broken on the weekend by two very talented Ryde throwers - Natasha Fairhall and Benjamin Stevens. Natasha broke the U11Girls Javelin Zone Record with a throw of 20.95m and Benjamin Stevens broke the U12Boys Discus Zone Record with a throw of 38.43m. An awesome result! The Ryde Athletics Community is most proud of your awesome achievements. To finish off the Zone Carnival, the relay teams from Ryde were most impressive, with some great results. It was great to see many of the athletes who attend my Sprint Coaching representing Ryde in the relay teams. Three out of the four teams entered achieved a second placing. Great job guys and a great team effort! Some exciting relay races to watch with some very close finishes between first and second placings. I am currently looking forward to the Regional Carnival in February where I am sure I will continue to witness many more fantastic achievements by Ryde Athletes. Congratulations to all Regional qualifiers. I would like to wish you all the very best of luck at the Regional Championships. At the moment I am pleased to announce that Stage 2 Ryde Athletics Upgrades are about to take place with the installation of a new sound system and speakers at Dunbar Park. These installations will benefit all members and athletes with much clearer announcements on a Saturday morning. Finally, after the Christmas Break Northern Suburbs athletes will begin competing at Ryde Athletics on a Saturday morning. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all North’s athletes. The Ryde Athletics Community hopes that all North’s athletes have an enjoyable time whilst competing at Ryde. May all athletes competing at Ryde and their families enjoy the remainder of the season.
