Sandra Brown-Lewis, a PCA on Bliss 9I, passed away unexpectedly on April 20. Sandra, 46, was employed at Hartford Hospital for 18 years. She was previous-ly a PCA at Jefferson House.

“Sandra quickly proved herself to be a wonderful addition to the Bliss 9I after transitioning from the Jefferson House,” said Michele Kolios, Sandra’s supervisor. “When I interviewed Sandra, she told me confidently that she was the one for the job and that she could do it. She ori-ented quickly, and became a very highly respected PCA.”

“Sandra was very kind and compassion-ate with our patients,” Kolios contin-ued. ”Both families and patients always loved her. Her work ethic was amazing. She never stopped moving from patient to patient.”

Kolios said Sandra was known on the unit for her sense of humor. “It would bring a smile to the many that she touched,” she said. “She was very special We will all miss her a great deal.”

Many friends and coworkers signed the Legacy Guest Book on the Courant site: (http://www.legacy.com/guestbook/hartfordcourant/guestbook.aspx?n=sandra-brown-lewis&pid=157230745&sign=3) Here are two of those entries:

“Losing Sandy is such a profound loss. However I will never forget the wonder-ful memories she has left for me to cher-ish. I feel blessed to have known her and worked with her at Hartford Hospital.”

“We are deeply saddened by the sud-den death of Sandra. She took very good care of our dad Thomas Donza at The Jefferson House - he loved her. We are proud to have known such a kind, warm and lovely person.”

Sandra leaves her her husband Regi-nald Lewis, daughter Marcia Brown; stepdaughter Diamond Lewis; son Peter Brown; stepson Reginald Lewis, Jr.; son-in-law, Jay Watkins; and granddaugh-ter, Jayda Watkins. She also leaves her mother, father, four sisters, and five brothers.

Condolences go out to her coworkers, friends and family.

Patient Resource Room for Ostomy Care Dedicated on Bliss 8

Hartford Hospital Mourns Passing of Sandra Brown-Lewis

Sam Dolfi and the Dolfi family and their friends made a gift in support of a pa-tient resource room for ostomy care in memory of Sam's wife, Jan Dolfi. The room was dedicated on April 24.

It was Sam Dolfi’s wish that ostomy pa-tients confidently transition their care to the home environment through edu-cation and support.

Sam’s wife of 53 years, Jan Dolfi, passed away in August 2010 after a courageous battle against bladder cancer.

The room, located on Bliss 8, is available to patients throughout the institution.

Walk With a Doc

Security Changes Name to Public Safety The Hartford Hospital Security Depart-ment will now be known as the Public Safety Department.

The name received the most support within the department, as they believe it suggests more accurately what they do. In addition, other medical institutions are trending to use this title for their security teams.

In the future, as the hospital logo is changed on the security cruisers and uniforms, they will say “Hartford Hospital Public Safety Department.”
