GOODBYE SEPTEMBER BY RON CLARKERIGHT UP YOUR STREET
COMMUNICATIONSorthfield
A professional public relations and media consultancy
• Press Releases • Corporate Literature • Project Management • Event Organisation • Crisis Control
At the moment it is all looking just a little fragile and precarious. Room for improvement is the least we can say.
Why not suggest something like another bank holiday? That would certainly appeal to the popular vote. Or even a national fancy dress day when we all have to go about our daily duties in an outfit of our choice? An assorted array of the good the bad and the ugly would certainly see September at last beginning to set the pace. It is just an idea. There must be more.
In the meantime, until my campaign to abol-ish September gathers momentum we will just have to stick with you for the time being. But you have been warned. Your time is run-ning out.
This could be your last year as we look for-ward to October already.
GOODBYESEPTEMBERThat’s it. It is time we changed the calendar. Let’s delete September completely. We are better off without it. And once it has gone I am sure it will not be missed.
Before you start looking for the strait jacket let me point out the facts. It is the most boring month of the year. Nothing happens in September. And this year it is all the more painful as it follows one of the most exciting periods of all time. Yes, July and August were lucky enough to claim the Olympic Games and leave other months with an act that is just impossible to follow.
If September was boring without having to somehow rise to the levels of such high octane moments how on earth is it supposed to follow on now? All this particularly dull and lifeless period signals is the end of the summer holidays, the start of school and the countdown to winter where everything is just long and dark.
There are not even any great celebratory moments. At least other months can claim such landmarks as New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, Halloween, bonfire night, Valentine’s Day, the Grand National, bank holidays, summer solstice, shortest day of the year and even the Queen’s birthday. The list is endless.
In comparison September stands in splendid isolation. Nothing, zilch, zero. Come on I am sure you can do better. At least have a think about and put forward some reasons why you should remain as one of our 12 months of the year.

THE RADIO RAMBLERSRIGHT UP YOUR STREET WIDEOPEN
Walking with the Radio Ramblers
After a break to explore the Abbey we continued past Abbey Mill over stiles and keeping to the top footpath above the river we again experienced some wonder-ful views. Towards the end of the path we passed an unusual memorial stone - to the legendary little Richmond Drummer Boy who vanished when drumming his way along a secret passage from Richmond Castle. The sound of his drum indicating the line of the passage, but at this point the drumming stopped and the story goes that the drumming ceased and the lad and the secret passage were never found again.
We moved on to a shady track which descends to the river and follow the edge of the river under Station Bridge to where it joi ns an enclosed footpath and up steps into Frenchgate ahead. We walked along Millgate where this narrow old lane begins to descend, to our right is the start of Castle Walk with a series of superb view points under the Castle Walls. Then it was back into Richmond to meet up with our none- walking colleagues who had enjoyed visiting the Town Hall built in 1756 on the site of the Medieval Guild Hall, Richmond Museum, The Georgian Theatre Royal and of course the shops and restaurants. As we sat enjoying a well earned coffee, beer or glass of wine we all agreed that it had been a hugely successful day and the atmosphere was fantastic on the coach as we sped our way home - Check our website for details of our next walk. http://www.radioramblers.co.uk/
Sunday the 22 July was forecast to be one of the hottest days of the year and we were in good spirits when we boarded the coach for Richmond. There was an excellent ‘turn out ‘ of walkers and we were joined by some of our social members who had decided to spend the day enjoy-ing the delights of Richmond town. We always encourage our social members (all of whom have been walkers in the past) to join us when there is a suitable venue where they can enjoy and pass a pleasant few hours. It is also a great opportunity for everyone to be together and catch up on all the latest news.
Richmond is a spectacular town with its Castle and cliff top setting above the river Swale. The distance of our walk today is 6 miles and we set off from the market place - some of our social members set off with us for a short while to see us on our way.
After about half a mile we turned left and followed the path past Low Leases farm where we proceed through the woods and eventually to Round Howe picnic site. Here we crossed the foot bridge over the river turning left we kept to the riverside path and eventually came to Billy Bank wood. Taking the main path downstream we climbed through lovely woodlands above a riverside cliff. Here we join what is part of the coast to coast walk and enjoy splendid views of the town but its onwards and upwards past Richmond Falls over a style into scrubby woodland then onto a path through parkland and eventually leading to the former track bed of the Darlington-Richmond branch railway which closed in 1970.
We continued our walk and cross the old bridge below the weir and turn left towards Easby Abbey eventually emerging at St Agatha’s church. It was well worth taking the time out to explore this beautiful medieval church with its remarkable if heavily restored wall paintings show-ing the Garden of Eden and the life of Christ. From St Agatha’s turning left we came to Easby Abbey itself. These magnificent ruins in their beautiful setting are remarkable extensive and date back from the 12th to 15th centuries, the most impressive building being the splendid Refectory, complete with stone serving hatch and pulpit.

The patient’s transport is a fleet of brand new Nissan NV 200 seven seater people carriers that are staffed by two persons, a Chauffeur and a Companion. The target/goal is to create a world-class organisation that is capable of transporting 50,000 cancer patients per year.If you are interested in becoming a VOLUNTEER either visit our website www.daftasabrush.org.uk to download an application form or send us a stamped addressed envelope to 3-5 Hood Street, 1st Floor Grainger Chambers, New-castle upon Tyne, NE1 6JQ or call in to our Hood Street office (we are between the Vivienne Westwood shop and the Newcastle Building Society branch on the first floor) to have an informal chat with one of our staff. LEGAL MATTERSRIGHT UP YOUR STREET WIDEOPEN

September, the month of separations!
CollaborativeFamilyLawyer
For some reason September sees a peak in the number of people separating from their partners. It is believed that one of the reasons is that a couple have been on holiday and spent more time together which serves to highlight their differences.
Whatever the reason, you do not need to panic. If you seek legal advice you will have all of the facts that you need at an early stage. Many client’s leave our office after their first appointment with a great sense of relief. Emmersons Solicitors Family Law Team have years of experience. We are members of The Law Society Family Law Panel and Jacqueline Emmerson, our senior partner, is a Collaborative Family lawyer. With all of our experience we are able to dispel the myths surrounding separation. Advice given by your friends in the pub is no substitute for legal advice.
The usual way to approach matters is to gather all of your financial information eg. How much is your home worth, how much is left to pay on the mortgage, do you have other savings and investments, and do you have debt?
The next stage is to swap both parties finan-cial information. At that stage it may be very easy to negotiate a settlement. If matters are more complicated then you could opt to at-tend meetings with your ex-partner and both solicitors. This can be a very speedy method of filling in gaps in financial information. It is often possible in a first meeting to narrow many issues still in dispute.
If you don’t want to come face to face with your ex-partner you can still attend a meet-ing whereby the solicitors meet in a room and use separate rooms to see each of their clients.
If you feel that you could both negotiate in an attempt to avoid court proceedings then Collaborative Family Law could be the answer. This process involves meetings as above. However, you both sign to say that you are committed to the process. The idea is to make you both work harder to find so-lutions that will avoid the adversarial nature of court proceedings. Clients usually com-ment that they feel more in control of their separation using Collaborative Law.
Looking at the processes above should help you to see how straightforward matters can be. You don’t have to worry about the law; your solicitor is there to guide you through the legal complexities allowing you to con-centrate on moving forward.
Keep Calm and Seek Help.
