RUS - Research and User Support for Sentinel Core Products A new fleet of satellites developed by ESA for the European Commission, the Sentinels, has begun in 2014 with Sentinel-1a systematic acquisition of Earth Observation data over the globe. Acquisitions will continue for the next decades, with follow-on missions of existing satellites and new satellites with different observation capabilities. Technological and knowledge issues are partially preventing user's uptake of such large volume of data. RUS provides a free and open scalable platform in a powerful computing environment, hosting a suite of open source toolboxes pre-installed on virtual machines, to handle and process data derived from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites constellation.
