Rumford is the economic center of Northern Oxford County. The local economy sports a 4.6% unemployment rate which is forecasted to go even lower with two large multi-national corporations leading the way along with increased tourism and recreational interests. Rumford capital investments planned for the next two years exceed $161 Million with an expected 250+ jobs and another 500 jobs indirectly. ND Paper, LLC (Illinois-based subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Nine Dragons Paper Holdings) purchased the Rumford Mill in 2018 and is investing $110 Million to improve efficiency and capacity. It is the major employer in the region with 650 employees, with another 50 planned hires. ND Paper is the largest con-tainerboard producer in Asia and is a leading paper product manufacturer globally with nine mills and 39 machines globally. ND Paper was honored as the Foreign Direct Investor of the Year Award by the Maine International Trade Center (MITC). Nestle Waters’ Poland Spring Water Co. took an option to purchase 150 acres from the town of Rumford as a prospective site for their fourth bot-tling plant. The planned $60 million bottling plant will employ around 50 workers. It would augment their new load station at Rumford Point. Rumford recently voted to spend $50,000, towards a goal of $200,000, to improve and enlarge the Rumford boat launch along the Androscoggin Riv-er. The improvements will increase water-related uses from kayaking and rafting to fishing for landlocked salmon and trout. Nearby Rumford Falls is a chain of massive drops of the Androscoggin River totaling 176 feet. This new destination will increase traffic and customers to Rumford Plaza, among other retailers in proximity. Increased use of Androscoggin River adds to the four season nature of the

area with nearby Sunday River ski resort in Newry, 23 miles west, leading the way. Sun-day River draws 500,000 guests annually, pri-marily from the Northeast and Eastern Canada. The area’s 8,000+ lodging rooms provide a steady stream of year round vacationers.
