Rulmeca Motorized PulleysInstalled in Cline Resources
Underground Coal Mines Cline Resources recently added more
”EZMP” dualdrive systems to their inventory of Rulmeca
MotorizedPulley conveyor drives.
After verifying the reliability of the compact dual driveat
their West Virginia and Illinois mines, the coal pro-ducer decided
to install the system at multiple mines.
The trial consisted of moving 1,200 tph of ROM coalat 600 fpm on
a 48” wide conveyor belt with two 75HP model 630H Rulmeca Motorized
Pulleys, nestedinto a special frame by Kerco, Inc. of Madisonville,
KY.
The EZMP drive system was tested on conveyors whichextend from
800' to 1,200' long to accommodate the move-ment of the continuous
miners. With a 24.8" diameter and a55.12" face width, the model
630H Motorized Pulley has a nar-row footprint. And each 75 HP drive
only weighs 2,200 lbs.The drive’s compactnessand light weight
areadvantageous whenmoving belt conveyors inrestricted spaces.
Todd Leverton, MaryanMine superintendent, said, “I first heard
aboutthe Rulmeca MotorizedPulleys several yearsago, but didn’t have
achance to try them untilrecently. I’m happywe’ve incorporated
thesedrives into our minebecause their reliabilityand low
maintenancerequirements will help us maintain our aggressive
productionrate. We have a great esprit de corps at the Maryan Mine.
Weproduce 9 tons of 11,000 btu coal per man-hour with two
con-tinuous miners. We’re very proud of that.”

arrangementmove 1,200 tph of ROM coal at 600 fpm on 48” wide 1,200’
longunderground conveyor belt. Note the absence of external
motor, gearbox, and pillow blocks. All mechanical components are
hermeti-cally-sealed within the pulley’s oil-filled shell.

Rulmeca's AC motor and gearbox, hermetically sealed with-in the
oil-filled Motorized Pulley shell, offer high reliabilityand low
maintenance requirements.
Rulmeca Motorized Pulleys were tested at MacoupinEnergy’s Maryan
Mine in the Illinois Coal Basin in 2010.
Todd Leverton, superintendent ofMaryan Mine
Developed in 1953 in Europe, Rulmeca MotorizedPulleys offer
mines and prep plants an optimal alter-native to exposed drive
systems with diametersfrom 5.5” to 40", powers up to 330 HP, and
beltspeeds up to 1,320 fpm.
Since they enclose all drive components within anoil-filled and
hermetically-sealed pulley shell,Rulmeca Motorized Pulleys increase
system relia-bility, lower maintenance expense, improve person-nel
safety, save space, and reduce power consump-tion. For more

“We’ve been actively promoting Rulmeca Motorized Pulleyssince
the early 1990’s,” said Kerco’s president, Chuck Reed,“but it
wasn’t until our company packaged Rulmeca MotorizedPulleys into our
EZMP Dual Drive (patent pending) in 2008 thatwe began to see
significant interest from coal producers.” Withunderground coal
mines in three states now using the dualdrive system, Rulmeca has
invested in stock to decrease pro-duction lead time to serve US
coal mines.

Built for underground coal mines, Kerco's 150 HP driveincludes
two 75 HP Rulmeca Motorized Pulleys and maybe mounted to mine floor
or ceiling. Optional boom con-verts system from booster to
discharge end drive.
With 24.8" diameter and 55.12" face width, model 630H
MotorizedPulley has narrow footprint. Each 75 HP drive only weighs
2,200 lbs.Drive compactness and light weight are advantageous when
