Basic Foundation Rules• Be respectful -Honor the worth and dignity of all individuals. Act

courteously, civilly, peaceably, and nonviolently. Be tolerant and accepting of differences. Avoid rude, offensive, and abusive words and actions for self, others, school, and community

• Be ready-Prepared for action, or progress in your class work, homeroom, classroom materials, be on time, be in attendance at school and in the classroom , wear

uniforms properly, following school and classroom rules. • Be responsible -Be accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes.

Exercise self-control. Strive for excellence and self-improvement. Plan ahead. Set a good example for others. Be self-reliant, prudent, proactive, persistent, and hard-working.

• Be successful-Having obtained a favorable outcome of something desired or intended by reaching one’s goals. Good grades, good behavior, good relationships with other students, teachers, parents etc.

Before School

• You are to stay in the center court where you can be monitored.

• You are not allowed to go onto the second floor unless you are there to see a teacher, with permission.

• You are not allowed to sit, stand, or walk through the sixth grade wing until the bell rings.

Before Class:• Prepare to enter class by lining up

respectfully outside the classroom along the wall until the teacher welcomes you in.

• Be safe and stand away from the railing for your safety and that of others.

Entering the Class:• Enter the classroom calmly and quietly. • Take your assigned seat.• Socializing ends at the door.• Take out all materials needed for class

from your backpack. Once class is started backpacks will be inaccessible.

• Place your closed backpack under your desk or on the back of your seat. (Following

directions will insure that your backpack will stay with you.) • A closed backpack is a safe backpack.

Attendance:• In order to avoid being marked

tardy you must be in the classroom in your seat when I take attendance.

Bellwork• You have 5-7 minutes to complete

your bell work on the computer in the “Bellwork for Science Folder” on LEARN. If you do not have a computer it must be in your science notebook.

• Bellwork will vary from day to day. Sometimes it will be a graded quiz.

Assignments will be given in various ways such as: paper and pencil work, computer work, participation (individually, as well as, groups), poster, etc.

Grades• You and your parents/guardians can visit

Infinite Campus regularly to see your grades and what you are missing.

• User Name – Matric Number• Password – First and last initial, day, month, year

Attention Call:• I will say, “May I have your attention

please?” then I will count down“5,4,3,2,1” You will: • Stop what you are doing,• Stop talking • All eyes on the teacher and listen to the teacher.

If using computers: I will say “Computers 1,2,3” then you will turn your computer toward the teacher and all eyes on the teacher.

Materials• You will need to bring your computer everyday.

• You will have a notebook, a folder, and two pencils that will remain in the classroom at all times.

• In order to be courteous to your fellow students you will have a personal pencil sharpener so that you can remain at your desk and sharpen your own pencil.

If You Forget Your Materials:• The Teacher will be prepared and responsible

for her materials only.• Be prepared to solve your own materials

problem: In order to increase your sense of responsibility you will be given the opportunity to solve your own problem about materials: such as: calling home to get supplies or borrow one from anyone but me.

• Each student is responsible to provide the lead for their own Mechanical(Lead) pencil.

Participation: • Raise your hand to be recognized to

ask or answer a question, or make a comment.

• Be respectful to others and listen to what they have to say without interrupting.

• That is my #1 RULE!

Bathroom Passes Checkout Procedures:

• You should only leave the classroom to go to the bathroom if it is an emergency

• If you need to go to the restroom before leaving the room, you must Fill out the bathroom sign-out sheet and have the teacher initial it before you leave the room.

• You must fill in your: -Name -Destination (where you are going)-Date

-Period

• You must have the bathroom pass with you and return with it to the classroom.

* Nurse Visits:• You must call and make an appointment

before going down to the office. The number is 4611.

Class work: • Class work will be posted or turned in by the

student at the end of every period, finished or not, unless your teacher tells you otherwise.

• You will show your teacher that you have turned in your work on LEARN before you leave the classroom.

Homework• Will be on Wednesdays.• Homework is always due the day after it is assigned.

(Thursday) • If you do not turn in homework you will have lunch

detention on Friday. (Failure to show up for lunch detention will result in an office referral.)

Absences: • You should be in class every day.

• You should only miss when you are ill.

• Missing school is detrimental to your grades and your comfort in school.

Making Up Missed Work• Be responsible: If you are absent you

need to speak with me before school or after school on the day you return for instructions on making up missed class work / homework or check Sunnyside Learns

• My time belongs to all my students during class. I will discuss missed work or grades before school, at lunch, or after school.

• It is your responsibility to complete missed work within the designated time limit.

Lab/Class Safety:

• You are expected to be on task, doing your assignment, and followingsafety rules during class on all days. • Failure to cooperate on lab days will result

in an alternative assignment for that day. • When assigned to a partner or team, you must work only with that partner or team.• No visiting with other teams.

Getting Drinks• Be responsible and take

advantage of your passing period to get a drink of water.

• You will not be allowed to get a drink during class because it is disruptive to the learning environment.

• You may bring a water bottle to drink during class.

Classroom Rules1. Students will be in the room before the final bell rings.

2. Students will bring all necessary materials to class.

3. Students will respect the teacher’s right to teach and students’ right to learn.

4. Students will listen and not talk when another person is speaking.

5. Students will acknowledge and follow instructions, directions, and procedures the first time they are given.

6. Students will keep electronic devices and food/candy/gum in their backpacks and use them only with permission.

Classroom Procedures 1.Students will perform Bell Work immediately after entering the room.2.Students will request permission from the teacher if it is an emergency to use the restroom and will sign out and carry the restroom pass.3.Students will remain seated at their desks (tables) during class unless given permission to do otherwise.4.Students will raise their hands and wait for permission to speak during the class period.5.After closure of lesson, students will clean their area and remain at assigned seats (table) until the teacher dismisses the class.

• Verbal Warning• Move to another seat• Lunch Detention: Write a three paragraph essay about what they did to get lunch detention, how their behavior hurt them and others, and what they will do to change their behavior• You or the teacher will call home to let your parent/guardian know what you did in class

• Repeated disruptive behavior in class:– After school detention– Referral to office

• Consequences are cumulative for repeat offenders!

Dismissal of Class: • The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell!

• Your desk and lab area must be clean before the end of class.• Pick up any paper or trash around your desk.• When it is time to leave

I will tell you to stand up and push in your chair.

• When the classroom is quiet and I say “have a nice day” you may exit the classroom.

• Leave backpacks in the classroom.• Line up at the door.• First Person (The Leader) in line will hold up the teacher

sign.• All students will stay behind the leader who is holding the

teacher’s sign.• As a class you will go to the field and line up behind the

leader with the sign.• Stand quietly in a single-file line and wait for the teacher to

take attendance.• As you return to the classroom stay in line behind the line

leader, no running.• Line up outside the classroom and wait for the teacher to

let you into the room.

Computers• Your computer is your friend - treat it well.

• Charge your computer every night.

• During class time use your computer for school work only.

• Make sure you shut down your computers and restart at school to update the anti-virus software

• When the teacher or another student is talking, you may be asked to turn your computers around or towards the teacher.

• When you are asked to open a worksheet or other assignment, make sure you save that assignment on your computer in the science folder, and when directed submit it into Sunnyside Learns

• Stay at your seats and use extension cords to charge your computer.
