    EDITORS LETTER

CRYSTAL GENTILELLOCO-FOUNDER & EDITOR IN CHIEF

IT SEEMS THAT EACH HOLIDAY SEASON

arrives quicker than the last. And this year,

we couldnt help but get wrapped up in the

holiday cheer early. Welcome to Rues Ulti-

mate Holiday Gift Guide - were so excited to

    share it with you!

WE BELIEVE that these weeks should be

lled with love, joy, and laughter- not anxiety.

So, with this issue weve done everything

we can to help you get through the busiest

shopping time of the year. Weve curated

gift guides for everyone on your list- from

the tech fanatic in your life (page 32) to your

stylish best friend (pg 28), and everyone in

    between.

OF COURSE, it wouldnt be a Rue Holiday

issue without some DIYs to make your days

merry and bright. If youre in need of a little

more decor around your home, youll love

    Scot Meacham Woods gorgeous holiday

wreath (pg. 78). Or, warm your soul with

deliciously darling Holiday Cider (pg. 74). And

of course, we made sure to share the best

entertaining inspiration (pg. 110) and deco-

rating ideas (pg. 92) for those of you who

nd yourselves hosting a holiday party in the

    weeks to come.

AS WE REFLECT BACK ON 2012, we count

your support amongst our greatest bless-

ings. From the entire team at Rue, we wish

you the happiest of holidays. May this sea-

son bring you a bounty of peace, love, and

    good cheer.

SEE YOU IN THE NEW YEAR with some veryexciting changes and surprises from Rue!

    Sincerely,

DE VERA OBJECTS is a huge source of in-

part is you never know what youre going to find

there. The inventory and merchandise is constant-

NATES TIPSfor Surviving the Holidays in Style

INVESTin things you can have inyour home year round like clear glass,

    mercury glass, and metallic accesso-

ries. Buy things that dont necessarily

overtly say holiday but read as festive.

    EDITyour space right before the

holidays and look at it with a fresh eye.

Get rid of furniture and accessoriesyou dont use. Before you start enter-

taining take a last look and do a clean

    sweep of the space.

LIGHT a candle. People really re-

spond to the smell of a space, so pick

up a great scented candle but make

sure it is not something that is too over

    powering. Subtle is best.

    EDITORS NOTE: FLAMELESS CAN-

DLES ARE GREAT FOR THOSE HARD

    TO REACH SPACES.

    STOCKyour guest room for those

    out-of-town visitors. Leave bottled

water on the side table, clean or new

sheets on the bed, and a book on the

nightstand. And why not pre-set the

DVR to shows you know they love and

watch at home? Theyll feel right at

    home!

Get to know theNEWEST THING IN SOCIAL

    MEDIA with Luvocracy Creative Director,

    CHRISTINE MARTINEZ LOYA.

LETS START WITH THE BASICS, SHALL WE?

    WHAT IS LUVOCRACY?

Luvocracy is a new platform for social shopping based

on the simple concept that the best products in our

ives come through the recommendations of peoplewe trust. We all have that go-to person for makeup

advice, or know a friend that has exquisite taste in

home decor -- Luvocracy brings all these people and

heir product recommendations together in one easy-

    o-shop place.

WE LOVE THAT WORD OF MOUTH CONCEPT. HOW WILL

LUVOCRACY CHANGE THE WAY PEOPLE SHOP?

Now you have access to a world of products, hand-

picked by people you know and admire. Best part:

when someone buys one of your product recommen-

dations from Luvocracy, you earn a commission on the

sale! This is our way of rewarding our members for

    heir great recommendations.

SOUNDS LIKE A NO-BRAINER TO US! LUVORACY SEEMS

LIKE THE PERFECT PLACE TO START SOME HOLIDAY

    SHOPPING.

Yes! One way to view Luvocracy is as a personalized

gift guide. For example, I may know a lot about home

decor, but I dont know much about mens fashion or

gifts for kids. Luckily, I trust people on Luvocracy that

do! Browsing their collections puts me only one click

away from buying a great gift.

MARK AND GRAHAM WAS FOUNDED on the need for a more modern approach to monogramming.

Gone are the days of mass-market clich keepsakes. Instead, were welcoming what they refer

to as the next generation of personalization. The design is simple and classic, yet the typogra-

phy is modern and fresh. From their broad range of unique fonts, to the addition of symbols (like

ampersands and hashtags), there is a perfect monogram for every customer.

WERE ABSOLUTELY MAD ABOUT MONOGRAMS, WHICH IS WHY WERE SO

PLEASED TO INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR FAVORITE NEW BRAND. SAY HELLO TO

ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PRODUCTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS IS THE EVERYDAY ZIP POUCH-

made of supple leather and a contrasting silk lining. It is chic and practical, while

the addition of color and typography give it a personality all its own. Or, choose a

Linen Wine Bag (paired with your favorite bottle) for a thoughtful hostess gift. Of

course, a gift-focused brand comes with perks! Each purchase comes in a beautiful

linen box wrapped in a signature steel grey ribbon.

THE TEAM AT MARK AND GRAHAM wanted the experience- start to fnish- to be un-

matched, and theyve done just that. Theyve quickly become a fun resource that

helps you create personal gifts that will stand the test of time. Mark and Graham is

a place where gift giving isnt stressful, but a delight! And of course, allow yourself

to indulge, too. One for them, two for you!

    GONE ARE THE DAYS OFbor-

ing wreaths with a simple red bow. Rues

Editor in Chief Crystal opened her doors

to Scot Meacham Wood, of SMW Design

and the blog The Adventures of Tar-

tanscot. The result? A whole lot of fes-

tive cheer. Starting with a plain wreath

(available at most retailers) as his blank

canvas, Scot transformed it in a mat-

ter of moments. Using magnolia leaves

and shimmering baubles- the once plain

greenery is now a fabulous (and sparkly)

    way to welcome the holidays.

    TIP:

Trim the magnolia leaves so that the stem

long enough to fasten them to the wreath

but short enough to remain hidden.

    THE TEXTUREof the wreath should

be completely transformed with the leaves.

If youre longing for a simple, nature-inspired

look, you can consider this DIY complete. But

if youre like us, a little embellishment is next

on the list. Gathering your favorite holiday-

inspired garnishes (Scot went for shimmering

white to accent the greens), work your way

around the wreath- attaching these the same

way you did the leaves. Make sure to space

them out and let the gorgeous textures show

through. Last? Sit back and enjoy your gor-

    geous handiwork.

MARYSIA DOBRZANSKA REEVES USUALLY HAS HER HEAD IN THE SAND, but for a

few weeks this year, the swimwear designer has transformed her Little Italy loft into

a snowy winter wonderland. Despite having relocated to New York City only a year

and a half ago from Charleston, Marysia, her husband, and their daughter who

have another little one on the way have already created a home that looks well

collected and full of personality. With numerous family photographs and quirky ac-

cessories, contemporary and vintage furniture, open shelving, and a neutral pal-

ette, it makes the ideal base for magical holiday decor.

DURING TWO NON-STOP DAYS OF DECORATING, Marysia re-imagined her exposed-brick interi-ors which double as an office for her label, Marysia Swim with evergreens, branches, and

homemade Polish treats. We live and work here, she says, so I wanted to keep it clean and

not too homey looking. Going from a 3,000-square-foot home to a loft wasnt easy, but I really

enjoyed sizing down and only keeping my very favorite things. Much like her jagged-trimmedmaillots, Marysia opted for a few statement-making visual elements, such as birch tree branch-

es framing her living and dining rooms and evergreen garlands adorning her window and door

thresholds. Our apartment has 18-foot ceilings, so I play with height when decorating for the

    holidays.

IN THE GLOW OF HER CLEAN-BURNING, ethanol fire-

place, string-light-wrapped branches are elevated to

an almost-holy status, but Marysias conservatively

dressed Christmas tree is the favorite. With a decid-

edly modern touch, she planted it in a late 19th-century

Japanese hibachi made from a tree stump, which was

found by her astute, art-dealer brother-in-law. The treein general is so symbolic, and since childhood I got so

excited looking at all the things that went on it, she

admits. My daughter is thrilled to do it as well. I let her

go crazy with her little white tree in her room, too. She

loads it up and is so happy with herself. It makes me

    happy to watch her.

AS FOR THE TABLETOPS, Marysia loves to spread the

decorations throughout every surface of her home,

whether its handmade a nativity set on a childrens pla

set or a sprig of evergreens on the kitchen shelves. I

love using evergreens in addition to white ranunculus,

garden roses, and peonies, she says. I like playing

with the hardness of the greens and the delicate texture

of flowers. I was also looking to add white berries to th

mix but I only found orange and red. A reserved white,

green, and brown palette is calming goes well the

space, Marysia says. I do love red as a color and used

to play it up much more, but I guess Im using a less is

    more kind of theory.

ITS ONLY NATURAL THAT MARYSIA applies this minima

ist, monotone look to her artful line of bikinis, cover-

ups, and beachwear, as well. She reveals: I love inte-rior design so much that I find myself drawing from tha

into my collections rather than the other way around. I

guess I like to do things a little unexpectedly with my

decorating; the same goes for my fashion design. Ex-

pect the unexpected from the designer whos expect-

    ing, we guess.
