The Daily Express/BA (buy one -get one free) offer aE ChristmasLras a t.emptation that I, along with many other people and someAi-r Yorkshi-re members, found too hard !o resist!. So on FridayMay 28 my Wife Anne and I headed for Sweden at a toEal (halfpriced) cost. of f398, that. would cover 4 fllghts each.Typically a Yorkshire sunrise t.urned to rain as we crossed thePennines, parked the car and headed for a British Alrways deskin Manchesters Domestic terminal at 7.10.am. We declined seatson the earlier 7-30 shuttle in favour of breakfast on Eerrafirrna - funny how you cannot .make changes on an APEX ticket,but. they can!. We eventually took our seats on BA 4423 andpushed back only a few minutes after 8.30. on a 737/4OO thatour Captain said was just 55 days oId (G-DOCX). Descentcommenced after 1,3 minutes in the air, but after joi-ning a busytstack' it was almost 9.30 when we touched down on R27L. Ourconnection t.o Stockholm v/as at 10.25, but. we had already beenissued with boarding cards, we did not have to collect theluggage and anyway flight BA 778 departed from the sameTerminal. To my surprise a second 737/4 $ias v/aiting at our gateand G-DOCT was found to be just as comfortable, but the flighttime of 2t hours allowed more time for the crew to feed and-water us! Descent inlo Arlanda ( ZS miles north of the City)was to afford good views of the archipelago around picturesqueStockholm languishing in a warm and sunny 18o.Following a weekend of good Swedish hospitality wit.h friends,we were back at. Next morning the frustration of the previous day hadevaporated but two lasting impressions remain. Firstly thataction should have been taken much sooner to replace the faultycomponent. Secondly that it is vitalJ-y i-mportant to keep all thepassengers fully and regularly briefed on the situation.
