Our second in a series of infographics displays the complexity of the palm oil / palm kernel oil supply chain. As RSPO certified oil still remains a market niche, keeping physical oil separated from non certified oil can be difficult, costly and impossible for the majority of sellers and buyers. If you take the infographic and expand this on a global scale, each supply & demand country/region must build its own segregated supply chain.
Until all palm / palm kernel is sustainably produced there will be a requirement to keep separate supply chains for certified and non certified oil. To allow buyers and sellers down the supply chain to trade sustainable palm / palm kernel oil the RSPO has four available supply chain options:
Identity Preserved
Segregated
Mass Balance
Book and Claim (GreenPalm)
