Premise for the quarry project
Quarries – potentially a great opportunity to expand turtle dove conservation beyond farmland • Thick scrub • Water features • Land to enhance with forage mix • CEMEX – keen to help.
CEMEX Turtle Dove Flyway
• Objectives
– Select and enhance 15 CEMEX sites across EU by end 2016
CEMEX UK – Turtle Dove Project Sites • Site selection criteria
– Close proximity to known breeding sites. Within 5km.
– Not effecting current RSPB trial sites.
– With suitable habitats. Scrub and Water
– Not effecting quarry operations.
• Enhancement sites • Control sites

Progress and Next steps • The 10 CEMEX UK sites surveyed by volunteers, in 2014 and 2015.
• In UK - 1 in 2014, 2 (+3 juveniles) 2015 • Four enhancement sites sown. • Added to planning application – benefit of gaining permission. • International Flyway – 2 sites in France with LPO, 1 site in Spain with SEO
• Repeat surveys 2016 / 2017. • Review effectiveness. • Scale up delivery through other operators
