“POMPEII: The Immortal City” at Orlando Science Center – For a
Limited Time
Wednesday, JAN. 20, 2021 See this
remarkable
exhibit as
Orlando is
one of only three cities
in the United States to
host Pompeii: The
Immortal City.
In just 24 hours, Pompeii and neighboring Herculaneum were
buried by the catastrophic eruption of
Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The site was lost for centuries and
remained almost entirely untouched until 1748. Today, the most
advanced scientific research brings to light the extraordinary
achievements of
Pompeii and the Roman world. Plunge into the heart of the drama
and ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii. Spectacular immersive
moments allow you to experience the destruction of the city and
to identify with the inhabitants of that time, immobilized by the
volcano’s ashes. Through artwork, interactive mechanical devices,
and
multimedia experiences, you will embark on a journey through
time into the daily life of a first-century Roman town.
Find yourself in the center of events as you hear and feel the
roar of the volcano erupting before your eyes. Discover how the
excavation of Pompeii in the 18th century influenced the
development of
archaeology as a scientific study. Play the role of
archaeologist through the use of digital interactives and replicas
of artifacts from Pompeii.
You Can See “Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation” at their CineDome
Theater With intrepid explorer Carsten Peter, dodge boulders at the
edge of an active volcano in Indonesia, descend to a lava lake in
Vanuatu and visit the incredible mineral deposit fields in
Ethiopia. Travel across the globe to
see the archaeological ghost town of Pompeii and witness the

The Dale Chihuly Glass Collection &
The Dali Museum - St. Petersburg
Friday, Feb. 19, 2021 Salvador Dalí is one of the most
celebrated artists of all time. His fiercely technical yet
highly
unusual paintings, sculptures and visionary explorations in film
and life-size interactive art
ushered in a new generation of imaginative expression. From his
personal life to his professional
endeavors, he always took great risks and proved how rich the
world can be when you dare to
embrace pure, boundless creativity. Discover the life and legend
of Salvador Dalí, and get to
know the people, places and events that transformed this Spanish
son into a surrealist sensation.
The museum itself is a work of art and an engineering
masterpiece. Built with 18-inch thick
hurricane-proof walls out of which erupts a large free-form
geodesic glass bubble known as the
“enigma”. The Enigma, which is made up of 1,062 triangular
pieces of glass, stands 75 feet at its
tallest point, and inside a double helical spiral staircase.
Dale Chihuly’s works belong to museum collections from the
Metropolitan Museum of Art to the
Louvre. His installations have hung over the piazza and canals
of Venice. But his permanent
collection resides in downtown St. Petersburg at the Chihuly
Collection presented by Morean
Arts Center, a gallery designed precisely and permanently for
displaying his works, a true
Chihuly museum. The Collection includes Chihuly’s spectacular
large-scale installations such
as Ruby Red Icicle Chandelier created specifically for the
Collection along with several popular
series works including Macchia, Ikebana, Niijima Floats,
Persians and Tumbleweeds which have
thrilled audiences around the globe.
