Mission
To promote the value of sporting activity and endeavour as a core
contribution to operational effectiveness, and as a key
factor to recruit, develop, sustain and retain our personnel.
RAF Sports Board decides matters of sports policy and funding.
DSB exercises executive responsibility of all sport undertaken under the aegis of the RAF Sports Associations, and issues “authority” [duty status] for sporting activity. (Governance)
The Secretariat provides support to the Associations who, in conjunction with the PEd staff at units, deliver and promote sporting activity at all levels. (Advice)
Sources, generates, manages and distributes non-public funding for sport include the RAF Central Fund, Nuffield Trust and RAF Sports Lottery. (Funding)

Ser Objective Activity RAG Future Work
1 Promote and develop the growth of both the game and player participation at stn level.
Dir Cricket established and all key roles currently filled. ►
Comms and Corporate strategies required. Link to Adastrians. Seamlessly migrate Eagles Management
2 Provide assistance to, and be a focal point for, Stn OICs by developing an OICs' focal point from which to promote best practice
CDO post established and active.Survey of OICs gets strong response. Covenant with CDO not exercised.
►Combined OICs Day and RAFCA AGM at Lords on 22 Nov 10. OICs to adopt Best Practice. Re-survey OICs.
3 Organise and coordinate cricket competitions.
T20 Competition: Notification of dates hampered by late notice Lords date. Lack of RAFCA comms ruins Final Day.RAF Cup Poor participation and OIC behaviours weaken credibility and induce confusion.
▼ Appoint new Comp Sec by end Nov 11. Consider potential impact of Olympics in panning schedule. De-link T20 from Lords. Remind OICs of responsibilities. Issue cup schedules by NLT end Jan 12, with rigid play bys.
4 Identify, target, encourage and support new players, regardless of standard or gender.
Coaching Review being implemented, with a well coordinated prog for coaches. Capture process continues to perform. 2010 OIC Day thoroughly briefed on link to RAFCA. First Eagles players progressed to Dev XI/U25.
▲ Publicise players progressing through the levels of challenge. Need to link to a cohesive Comms Strategy.
5 Provide cricketing opportunities for all personnel by utilising The Adastrians Cricket Club.
The Adastrians have not fully explored potential links to RAFCA. President has held open discussion on Adastrians futures.
▲ Dir Cricket has been approached to discuss way ahead on 2 Dec 11. Need a mutually acceptable role and support network for Adastrians cricket.
Ser Objective Activity RAG Future Work
6 Support the Senior, Development, (Adastrians) and U-25 XIs by providing and coordinating an Emerging XI – The Eagles.
•5 Fixtures in 2010 (3 in 2010). •Concept maturing year on year. •Prospects highlighted/watched by Dev XI Coach. •3 players from inaugural Eagles season selected for U25/Dev 2011 Squad.
► Agree games for 2012. Improve input by OICs and Lge Sec. Build links to Rep XI and Lge Secs. Enhance Eagles Management.PR campaign to embed Eagles further
7 Encourage inclusivity and build an identity for cricket in the RAF
OIC News letters have tried to engender sense of inclusively and identity. Several aborted attempts to establish who is driving RAFCA Comms Strategy. Adastrians positioning proposal.
►Clarity of RAFCA Comms Strategy.Links with Site Manager.Cohesive positioning of Adastrians. What does the Association look like – what are the rules of membership?
8 Support League Secretaries and League activities.
Both Lge Secs invited to Lords for T20. Lge Finals week established in calendar. ▲
Exploit knowledge of OICs and top performers.Enhance engagement on driving players through the ranks and to Adastrians.Ensure feedback on Dir Cricket activities
9 Organise a cricket ‘Festival’. Remains an attractive proposition for RAF Cups. Lossiemouth proposal for Preston hampered by T20 dates. Declined Corporate Olympics proposal
►Scope mioi-festivals for RAF Cup 2012.Balance commitment of personnel to missed games in season. Generate agreed locations. Scope impact of 2012 Olympics on competitions.
10 Hold an AGM for OICs, which ensures representative attendance from across the RAF.
Use of Lords and now Oval captured imagination. Adastrians Invited
► OICs to follow through on covenant.

REVIEW - SUMMARY/CONCLUSIONS FINANCES. A mixed bag, units expressed concerns their facilities were worn however units that had requested money seemed to be content with their allocation.
MT. A big concern especially with SERCO controlled MT sections regarding driving hours or lack of vehicles.
TEAS. Most units that had to source refreshments from the Messes were not happy with the quantity or quality they were paying for.
PLAYER AVAILABILITY. A common theme. However, several units received a lot of support from local teams, and with station players heavily involved in local coaching and playing - the local teams also relied heavily on station players. Inference that cricket in the RAF was thriving through local clubs rather than unit v unit cricket.
