LOCAL GOVERNMENT
ROWLANDS CASTLE PARISH COUNCIL
The Full Council meets at 7pm on the first Monday of each month in the Parish
Hall, except on public holidays when it will meet on the next available Mon-
day. The Agenda will normally include an opportunity for residents to address
Council in an Open Forum. The Council’s Annual General Meeting takes place in
early May. The Council also has various Working Groups for Planning, Open Spac-
es, Recreation Ground, Traffic and Finance matters, each with a nominated Lead-
er. Council agendas and minutes are published on the notice boards in Rowlands
Castle and Finchdean, and on the Parish website. For further information, please

The Surgery situated at the tip of the green has been providing the village with
a GP Services for decades. Our attached pharmacy opened in May 2010.
New patients are welcome, just pop in to reception and ask for the new patient regis-
tration form.

Community Nurses for home visits to assess needs and give appropriate infor-

Health Visitor Advises on health care, particularly for expectant mothers, babies

Community Midwife Helps with all aspects of pregnancy care and during the first

Little Fishes Weekly Music Meeting for babies and toddlers, meet

General information
The catchment area of St. John’s includes the villages of Rowlands Castle,
Finchdean and Idsworth. If you would like your child to come to our school in Sep-
tember 2015, you must apply for a place by midnight on Wednesday 15th January
2014. A form and a brochure can be collected from any primary school from Sep-
tember 2014 and should be returned to St. John’s (if this is your preferred school).
The application process can be completed online.

Ist Rowlands Castle Scout Group
The aim of Scouting is to contribute to the development of
young people (boys and girls) in achieving their full physi-
cal, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals,
as responsible citizens and as members of their local na-
tional and international communities.
We operate in 3 sections:
Scouts (aged 10½-14½) Fridays 7 - 9 pm
Cub Scouts (aged 8 - 10½) Wednesdays 6.30 - 8 pm
Beaver Scouts (aged 6 - 8) Wednesdays 6.15 - 7.15 pm
All meetings take place in our HQ in Uplands Road
Please note: we anticipate a growing waiting list for Beavers and therefore recom-
mend registering your child as early as possible so that they will have the opportuni-
ty to join when they reach the age of 6.

Rowlands Castle University of the Third Age The U3A has over 140 members,
more than enough to provide a rich variety of activities. There is a monthly meeting
on the 3rd monday of the month at 14.00 with invited speaker and an annual outing
in July. Groups launched in January 2014 are:

Rowlands Castle Historical Society Meet monthly in the Parish Hall during the
winter on Thursday evenings as arranged. We have about six
lectures a year, several trips in the summer and the occasional
exhibition. Subs are £5 a year. Guests at lectures are always

Rowlands Castle Craft Market In 2014 the craft Fair will be held in the Parish
Hall, Links Lane, Rowlands Castle, PO9 6AD from 10am to 1pm on the following

There are approximately 25 stalls selling unique hand made items including jewel-
lery, glass, beads, pewter, textiles, patchwork, knitting, cards, photography and
woodwork.

Rowlands Castle Photography Group Meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month

Rowlands Castle Gardening Group We meet on the 3rd Wednesday
of each month at 7.30 pm at the Church on the Green. We have a pro-
gramme of speakers throughout the year and go on garden visits during
July and August. New members and guests are always welcome. For

LOCAL FESTIVITIES AND EVENTS
Mayday 'Picnic on the Green' Held on the Village Green each year on the May
Bank Holiday Monday starting at 12 noon. Fun for all, including music by the
Blendworth Brass Band, vintage cars, plant sale, Allotment Association stall and
BBQ at the Fountain. All proceeds to the Rowan's Hospice. Contact Barbara

Village Fayre The biggest event in the village calendar, the annual Summer Fayre
held on the Green 1st Saturday in July. If you would like to help, contact the

Guy Fawkes Bonfire and Fireworks Display The next RCA Bonfire Night Cele-
brations will take place on Saturday 8th November 2014 in the Recreation Ground
in Links Lane. The Bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm and there will be a spectacular fire-
works display at 7pm. Children under 16 are admitted free. We ask adults for a do-
nation of £5 on the gate.
Children's Christmas Party: The children of Rowlands Castle are
invited to an annual RCA Children's Christmas Party on Sunday De-
cember 21st 2014, 3.00pm - 5.00pm, St John's Hall. Contact Anita

Stansted Park Cricket Club We are a talented and enthusiastic group of cricketers
who each weekend during the summer months enjoy playing against neighbouring
clubs in Hampshire and West Sussex.
We would be very pleased to hear from any new players
who have recently moved into the area or now find that
they have time to participate in this sport. If you are inter-

Public Tennis:
Members of the public may book Court 1 of the Recreation Ground Tennis Courts
on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 6pm (last booking at 5pm) by visiting or
telephoning the Home Hardware shop in the village. Charges are £1 for adults and
50p for children, per hour. Bookings may be made up to 24 hrs in advance and
Home Hardware will provide entry information up to one hour before the booking

Gentle Chair Exercises: This is for anyone who suffers from stiff joints or needs to improve their mobility or

What our church is like
Finchdean Chapel URC is a quaint little building which only seats 45, in the village
of Finchdean near Rowlands Castle, in the heart of the Hampshire countryside,
A The Chapel was  reopened 10 years ago and has been going from strength to
strength ever since.

We are a small friendly congregation of around 20 with a strong sense fellowship, we
enjoy looking to new ways of worship, but keep Sunday mornings for a traditional
Sunday morning worship, A we have a communion service on the first Sunday in the
month.

Rowlands Castle Association The Aim of the Association is to conserve the
character of Rowlands Castle, to provide a channel of communication on matters of
local interest and to enhance the life of the village. The committee publishes a VIL-
LAGE MAGAZINE 3 times a year which is distributed free of charge to all resi-
dents. This contains a variety of articles, parish reports and a useful VILLAGE DI-
RECTORY, which lists the multiple organisations, and contact numbers within the

Castle Association for the circulation of urgent news and information of interest in
the village. To sign up for this service just send a blank email to
[email protected] and you will automatically be sent future Grapevine
messages. People who sign up are promised that their email address will never be
disclosed to anyone else. That they will not be spammed. And that they will receive
only important, infrequent messages. Please honour this promise. Do not ask for a
read receipt. Not permitted on the Grapevine are political or commercial messages.
Rowlands Castle Association Village Magazine Published three times per
year by the Association. Includes: regular reports from the Parish Council, local
EHDC councillor and village organizations; reports on village events and notifica-

The Rowlands Castle Good Neighbours Group Offers neighbourly assistance in
any way needed. For assistance, or to enquire about joining the Group as a volunteer,

Remembrance Sunday On the 11th day of the 11th Month (Monday in 2013) the
Union Flag is lowered at 11 am on the Village Green for 2 minutes silence to honour
those who fought for our freedom.
Rowlands Castle Police Beat Surgery
Routine police visits to the village are now made through a
programme of School and Street Engagements, each lasting 90
minutes to gives schools and residents an opportunity to meet

the Beat Teams. Tables showing the dates, times and locations of these engagements
are displayed on the Parish Council Community notice boards in Rowlands Castle

Speedwatch is a scheme sponsored by the police which involves
members of the public monitoring traffic in the village with speed
measuring devices (not speed guns). Volunteers are needed for road-
side monitoring and administration or coordination. email southofbut-

HALLS AVAILABLE FOR HIRE
St. John’s Church Centre Situated at the top of Redhill Road opposite St. John’s
School. Available for private hire. Contact: the Parish Office on 9241 0111.
Parish Hall The hall (lower end of Links Lane) is the venue for many of the
village’s clubs and societies, and is available for private hire. Large hall with stage
and dressing-rooms, small hall and kitchen, as well as dedicated meeting rooms.
Garden is available for summer barbecues and events. Hall has Public
