Waste Incineration Plants
Fields of Application:
For pumping abrasive and corrosive fluids there has been an increasing tendency to employ non-metallic materials. Having identified this trend in the early 90s already, DÜCHTING PUMPEN successfully developed and tested a new material that would best suit these operating conditions. With SICcast®, a mineral-cast material produced at our affiliate SICcast® Mineralguss GmbH & Co. KG, we have offered a reliable and cost-effective material for a number of years now. The major advantage of SICcast® is its excellent chemical resistance in combination with its exceptionally high wear-resistance which far exceed that of traditional high-alloyed chrome nickel steels or any other nickel alloys.
Centrifugal pumps of the ROWA-MC / MCC series are derivatives of our successful and widely-used metallic ROWA series. In these two new series, DÜCHTING PUMPEN has managed to keep all of those parts which are in contact with the liquid free of metallic components by using the mineral-cast material SICcast® and our DÜTEC® mechanical seal. SICcast® is a compound of chemically resistant and thermally-stable epoxy resin that is mixed under vacuum with silicon carbide (SiC).
Coal, Ore and Potassium Mining
Chemical Industry Food, Metal and Fertilizer Industry
At present, this versatile material can be used for numerous applications, except for strongly basic environments and for fluids containing bigger particles (>1mm). In order to further improve its chemical resistance, the bonding agent is continuously being refined.
Consequently, the fields of application for theROWA-MC / MCC series are highly abrasive or abrasive-corrosive operating conditions, which can, for instance, be found in:
• Flue-Gas Desulfurization
• Coal, Ore and Potassium Mining
• Waste Incineration Plants
• Chemical Industry
• Food, Metal and Fertilizer Industry

Design Features:
Pumps of the ROWA-MC series are horizontal radially-split, single-stage centrifugal pumps. Their closed, multi-vane impeller is fitted with three-dimensionally curved vanes.
The suction flange is positioned axially, the discharge flange either radially to the top (up to ANSI 6”) or tangentially upwards (starting from ANSI 8”). The antifriction bearings are oil-lubricated. Typically, pumps of the ROWA-MC / MCC series are fitted with a single-acting DÜTEC® mechanical seal.
This patented mechanical seal was especially designed and optimized for use in centrifugal pumps of the ROWA series and is yet another innovative development of DÜCHTING PUMPEN.
The ROWA-MC pumps can, however, also be equipped with double-acting mechanical seals. In this case, a metal free solution is, of course, also available.

Material Properties & Manufacturing Process
SICcast®:The material is primarily made of silicon carbide (SiC) which is mixed under vacuum with epoxy resin (EP) as a bonding agent and is then cast into molds.
The Components:SiC:At high temperatures, silicon minerals (Si), which exist as SiO2, combine with carbon (C) to form silicon carbide (SiC) with a hardness of 9.7 on Mohs’ scale (diamond=10). SiC is made up of particles of different sizes which allows a high packing density. By adding epoxy resin as a bonding agent, it becomes possible for this material to be cast in molds.
EP:Since epoxy resin is the basis for most two-component adhesives and is characterised by a high chemical resistance, it is the ideal partner for binding the SiC particles.
The Result:The result is a non-metallic, anti-magnetic, noise-absorbing and vibration-reducing material with a diamond-like hardness and a thermal stability up to 300°F. Due to its chemical composition, it is not as brittle as sintered SiC and less sensitive to temperature shock and impact.

ROWA-MC / ROWA-MCCReduction of Life-Cycle Costs
Everyone who operates industrial plants is determined to maximize the operating life of the components used and to increase the intervals in which wear parts have to be exchanged, in order to increase plant availability and to reduce operating and maintenance costs at the same time.
Centrifugal pumps are subject to considerable abrasion, erosion and corrosion and thus require a continuous exchange of wear parts. Pumps made of SICcast®, however, have helped for years now to reduce these maintenance costs noticeably as a result of their extremely high resistance to abrasion and corrosion.

From a discharge flange width of 20“, DÜCHTING PUMPEN brings into play the ROWA-MCC series (MCC=Mineral Cast Compound), e.g. for big absorber circulation pumps in flue gas desulfurization plants. In contrast to pumps of the ROWA-MC series which are built in unit-construction, the design of the ROWA-MCC series allows for a considerable reduction in weight and thus also an optimization in costs. All parts of the volute casing which are in contact with the liquid are made of SICcast®. Since the material is directly cast into the respective volute casing, it forms one unit.
