USEFUL INFORMATION ROUTE Start at Hassop Station and head west on the Monsal Trail towards Monsal Dale taking in the epic limestone railway tunnels, the Headstone Viaduct, cotton mills and lime kilns. Pass through Millers Dale Station and keep going almost to the end of the trail next to Blackwell Cycle Hire. Leave it here, loop over the trail on a bridge and head south on the Pennine Bridleway up the steep hill. Through the gate at the top and immediate left on the bridleway. Turn left onto the road and go through Blackwell. Then straight over at the cross roads, up the hill. After the bend in the road turn left and go through Priestcliffe village. Continue straight down the hill on the unclassified track called Broadway Lane. After about a kilometre take the bridleway right into picturesque High Dale. Rejoin the road and cross through Brushfield (please close all the gates to protect the local children and horses). Follow the byway round the top of Monsal Dale then head down a rocky track. At the bend head left down a greasy, steep singletrack bridleway (watch out for walkers). Head over the viaduct along the trail to Hassop Station where you can finish the shorter route. To continue on the longer route , add the ‘Eastern Loop’ by leaving the trail at next bridge along after Great Longstone Station. Go right up Longreave Lane, towards Rowland. At the T junction go right towards Hassop. By Hassop Hall turn right. 50 yards down the hill, just after Home Farm, turn left onto the bridleway. Enjoy the singletrack all the way to ‘13 Bends’ ( the A619 Bakewell Road). Turn right on the road and then after 50 yards take the bridleway left and climb to Pilsley. In the village go up the road in front of the Devonshire, past the shop / post office and school. Turn left on the B6048 and then right on the B6012 towards Chatsworth. Go past the Cavendish Club and over the cattle grid. Turn right into Edensor and take the road up the hill that eventually becomes a byway. At the top of the track turn left and climb up Handley Lane B6480. 200m after the top of the hill take the bridleway left into the woods and enjoy the muddy, rutted descent down then through Bakewell golf course. Watch out for fallen trees and golf balls! When you reach the road, please be aware of the locals gardens on the verges. Then turn left, then right, and go through the old Bakewell railway station. Left on Monsal Trail back to the start of the ride at Hassop Station. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 2 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 1 17 Leaflet funded by the Alpkit Foundation The Blackwell end of the Monsal Trail showing the bridge where the route goes up the Pennine Bridleway Full route is approximately 35km with 915m of climbing
