n 1953 in a small loft on Great Jones Street in the Lower East Side, Milton Somberg began Rothco, then known as Morris Rothenberg & Son. Dealing in used clothing and World War II army surplus, the business grew, settling in a larger warehouse on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. When used military goods became scarce, the company became manufacturers, eventually becoming the country’s largest supplier of military clothing and gear to the commercial market. With all those years of experience, Milton knew real military gear and made sure that all of Rothco’s clothing met the same rigid standards.

The Rothco brand was soon embraced by the workingman in the same way it was respected by soldiers around the world. Over the years, as military-inspired clothing grew in popularity, Rothco gained fans and added boutiques, menswear and streetwear stores to their existing retail base of army-navy stores and military suppliers.

Though our retail distribution has changed and grown, Rothco remains true to its roots, making real clothing for military, law enforcement and workwear. For over 55 years, Rothco has made timeless, vintage clothing that transcends eras and offers classic, lasting quality and appeal. Our customers rely on this unchanging commitment.

Rothco clothing has been featured in magazines like Elle, MR and DNR, on TV shows like Celebrity Fit Club, Army Wives, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and in movies like Tropic Thunder and Notorious and on musicians like Beyonce, Ciara and Omarion
