If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warrantyapplies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow allinstructions on the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thoroughlyfamiliar with the controls and the properuse of the machine before starting.

• Do net put hands or feet near or underrotating parts. Keep clear of the dis-charge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals, whoare familiar with the instructions, to oper-ate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., whichcould be picked up and thrown by blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of other peoplebefore mowing. Stop machine if anyoneenters the area.

• Do not operate the mower when bare-foot or wearing open sandals. Alwayswear substantial foot wear.

• Do net pull mower backwards unlessabsolutely necessary. Always look downand behind before and while movingbackwards.

• Never direct discharged material towardanyone. Avoid discharging materialagainst a wall or obstruction. Materialmay dchochet back toward the opera-tor. Stop the blade when crossing gravelsurfaces.

• Do not operate the mower withoutproper guards, plates, grass catcher orother safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions forproper operation and installation ofaccessories. Only use accessories ap-proved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing graveldrives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the equipment, before cleaning themower or unclogging the chute.

• Shut the engine (motor) off and wait untilthe blade comes to complete stop beforeremoving grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylight or good artificiallight.

• Do not operate the machine while underthe influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.Always be sure of your footing: keep afirm hold on the handle; walk, never run.

• Disengage the self-propelled mech-anism or drive clutch on mowers so

equipped before starting the engine.• If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibra-tion is generally a warning of trouble.

• Always wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields when operatingmower.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip &fall accidents which can result in severe in-jury. All slopes require extra caution. ]f youfeel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it.DO=

• Mow across the face of slopes: neverup and down. Exercise extreme cautionwhen changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles such as rocks, treelimbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tallgrass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not trim near drop-offs, ditches orembankments. The operator could losefooting or balance.

• Do not trim excessively steep slopes.• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced foot-

ing could cause slipping.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operatoris not alert to the presence of children.Children are often attracted to the machine

and the mowing activity. Never assumethat children will remain where you lastsaw them.

• Keep children out of the trimming areaand under the watchful care of anotherresponsible adult.

• Be alert and turn machine off if childrenenter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,look behind and down for small children.

• Never allow children to operate the ma-chine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may obscure vision.

IV. SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

Use extreme care in handling gasoline.Gasoline is extremely flammable and thevapors are explosive.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes

and other sources of ignition.• Use only an approved container.• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine to coolbefore refueling.

• Never refuel the machine indoors.• Never store the machine or fuel contain-

er where there is an open flame, sparkor pilot light such as a water heater or onother appliances.

• Never fill containers inside a vehicle, ona truck or trailer bed with a plastic liner.Always place containers on the groundaway from your vehicle before filling.

• Remove gas-powered equipment fromthe truck or trailer and refuel it on the

ground. If this is not possible, thenrefuel such equipment with a portablecontainer, rather than from a gasolinedispenser nozzle.

• Keep the nozzle in contact with the rimof the fuel tank or container opening atall times until fueling is complete. Donot use a nozzle lock-open device.

• If fuel is spilled on clothing, changeclothing immediately.

• Never overfill fuel tank. Replace gascap and tighten securely.

V. GENERAL SERVICE

• Never run a machine inside a closedarea.

• Never make adjustments or repairs withthe engine (motor) running. Disconnectthe spark plug wire, and keep the wireaway from the plug to prevent accidentalstarting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially bladeattachment bolts, tight and keep equip-ment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices. Checktheir proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, orother debris build-up. Clean oil or fuelspillage. Allow machine to cool beforestoring.

• Stop and inspect the equipment if youstrike an object. Repair, if necessary,before restarting.

• Never attempt to make wheel heightadjustments while the engine is running.

• Grass catcher components are subjectto wear, damage, and deterioration,which could expose moving parts orallow objects to be thrown. Frequentlycheck components and replace withmanufacturer's recommended parts,when necessary.

• Mower blades are sharp and can cut.Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, anduse extra caution when servicing them.

• Do not change the engine governor set-ting or overspeed the engine.

• Maintain or replace safety and instruc-tion labels, as necessary.

HOWTO USEYOUR LAWN MOWER

ENGINE SPEED

The engine speed was set at the factoryfor optimum performance. Speed is notadjustable.

ENGINE ZONE CONTROL

_CAUTION: Federal regulations requirean engine control to be installed on thislawn mower in order to minimize therisk of blade contact injury. Do not underany circumstances attempt to defeat thefunction of the operator control. The bladeturns when the engine is running.• Your lawn mower is equipped with an

operator presence control bar whichrequires the operator to be positionedbehind the lawn mower handle to start

and operate the lawn mower.

DRIVE CONTROL

• Serf-propelling is controlled by hold*ing the operator presence control bardown to the handle and pulling the drivecontrol bar up to the handle. The closerto the handle the bar is pulled, the fasterthe unit will travel.

• Forward motion will stop when either theoperator presence control bar or drivecontrol bar are released. To stop forwardmotion without stopping engine, releasethe drive control bar only. Hold operatorpresence control bar down against handleto continue mowing without self-propelling.

NOTE; If after releasing the drive controlthe mower will not roll backwards, pushthe mower forward slightly to disengagedrive wheels.

• To keep drive control engaged whenturning corners, push down on thehandle to lift the front wheels off the

ground while turning lawn mower.

DRIVE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT

Over time, the drive control system maybecome "loose", resulting in decreasedspeed. There is a thumbscrew on theunderside of the drive control housing toincrease tension on the drive cable. Pro-ceed as follows:1. Turn unit off and disconnect spark plug

wire from spark plug.2. Rotate thumbscrew counter-clockwise

to tighten the drive cable.3. Operate mower to test drive speed.4. If condition fails to improve after the

above steps (forward speed remainsthe same), your drive belt is worn andshould be replaced.

NOTE: If mower begins to "creep" forward,the drive cable is too tight. Rotate thumb-screw clockwise to loosen drive cable.

TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT

Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels

for high cut, adjust cutting height to suityour requirements. Medium position isbest for most lawns.

To change cutting height, squeeze ad-juster lever toward wheel. Move wheelup or down to suit your requirements Besure all wheels are in the same setting

NOTE: Adjuster is properly positionedwhen plate tab inserts into hole in lever.Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped)allow lever to be positioned between theplate tabs.

TO CONVERT MOWER

Your lawn mower was shipped ready to beused as a mulcher. To convert to baggingor discharging:

REAR BAGGING

• Lift rear door of the lawn mower and

place the grass catcher frame hooksonto the door pivot pins.

• To convert to mulching or dischargingoperation, remove grass catcher andclose rear door.

SIDE DISCHARGING• Rear door must be closed.

• Open mulcher door and install dis-charge deflector under door as shown.

• Mower is now ready for dischargingoperation.

• To convert to mulching or baggingoperation, discharge deflector must beremoved and mulcher door must beclosed.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

ADD OIL

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil inthe engine. For type and grade of oil touse, see "ENGINE" in the Maintenancesection of this manual.

CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine withoil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffleron startup.1. Be sure lawnmower is level.

2. Remove oil dipstick frem oil fill spout.3. You receive a container of oil with the

unit. Slowly pour the entire containerdown the oil fill spout into the engine.

NOTE: Initial oil fill requires only 18 oz.due to residual oil in engine from themanufacturers 100% quality testing. Whenchanging oil you may need 20 oz.4. Insert and tighten dipstick.IMPORTANT:• Check oil level before each use. Add oil

if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more oftenunder dusty, dirty conditions. See "TOCHANGE ENGINE OIL' in the Mainte-nance section of this manual.

ATTACH FUEL CAP CARTRIDGE

Your mower is equipped with a specialFRESH START TM fuel cap and continuousfuel preserver cartridge. See the infor-mation and instructions packed with theFRESH START, Mcartridge.

1. Snap cartridge into bottom of fuel cap.NOTE: Do not remove the silver foil seal

on the side of cartridge that snaps intofuel cap.2. Grasp the white peel tab and pull to

remove the entire seal.3. Screw fuel cap onto fuel tank after fill-

ing tank with gasoline.Replace cartridge when empty (aboutonce a season). Check preserver levelvisually.

DANGER: Cartridge fluid is HARMFULOR FATAL IF SWALLOWED. Avoid contact

to eyes, skin, or clothing. Do not takeinternally. Do not inhale fluid vapor. Keepout of reach of children. If swallowed, call

a physician immediately.ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of tank filler neckDo not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regularunleaded gasoline with a minimum of87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.Purchase fuel in quantities that can beused within 30 days to assure fuel fresh-ness.CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil or

fuel. Do not store, spill or use gasolinenear an open flame.

CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels

(called gasohol or using ethanol or metha-nol) can attract moisture which leads toseparation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. Toavoid engine problems, the fuel systemshould be emptied before storage of 30days or longer. Empty the gas tank, startthe engine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuelnext season. See Storage instructions foradditional information. Never use engineor carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator pres-ence control bar.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatings on theengine, a small amount of smoke may bepresent during the initial use of the prod-uct and should be considered normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primerthree (3) times before trying to start.Use a firm push.This step is notusually necessary when starting anengine which has already run for a fewminutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bardown to the handle and pull starterhandle quickly. Do not allow starterrope to snap back.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may be neces-sary to repeat priming steps. In warmerweather over priming may cause floodingand engine will not start. If you do floodengine, wait a few minutes before attempt-ing to start and do not repeat primingsteps.

MOWING TIPS

• Under certain conditions, such as verytall grass, it may be necessary to raisethe height of cut to reduce pushingeffort and to keep from overloading theengine and leaving clumps of grass clip-pings. It may also be necessary to re-duce ground speed and/or run the lawnmower over the area a second time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce thewidth of cut by overlapping previouslycut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most cut-ting conditions, the engine speed shouldbe set in the FAST position.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can be-come filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. Toprevent this, regularly hose catcher offwith water and let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,keep mower housing free of built-upgrass and trash. See "CLEANING" in theMaintenance section of this manual.

• The special mulching blade will recutthe grass clippings many times andreduce them in size so that as they fallonto the lawn they will disperse intothe grass and not be noticed. Also, themulched grass will biodegrade quicklyto provide nutrients for the lawn. Alwaysmulch with your highest engine (blade)speed as this will provide the best recut-ting action of the blades.

• Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet.Wet grass tends to form clumps andinterferes with the mulching action. Thebest time to mow your lawn is the earlyafternoon. At this time the grass hasdried, yet the newly cut area will not beexposed to direct sunlight.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mowercutting height so that the lawn mowercuts off only the top one-third of thegrass blades. If the lawn is overgrown itwill be necessary to raise the height ofcut to reduce pushing effort and to keepfrom overloading the engine and leavingclumps of mulched grass. For extremelyheavy grass, reduce your width of cutby overlapping previously cut path andmow slowly.

• Certain types of grass and grassconditions may require that an area bemulched a second time to completelyhide the clippings. When doing a sec-ond cut, mow across (perpendicular) tothe first cut path.

• Change your cutting pattern from weekto week. Mow north to south one week

then change to east to west the nextweek. This will help prevent matting andgraining of the lawn.

DRIVE WHEELS

Check front drive wheels each time before

you mow to be sure they move freely.The wheels net turning freely means trash,grass cuttings, etc. are in the drive wheel areaand must be cleaned to free drive wheels.

If necessary to clean the drive wheels, besure to clean both front wheels.1. Remove hubcaps, Iocknuts & washers.2. Remove wheels from wheel adjusters.3. Remove any trash or grass cuttings

from inside the dust cover, pinion and/or drive wheel gear teeth.

4. Put wheels back in place.NOTE: If after cleaning, the drive wheelsdo not turn freely, contact a Sears or otherqualified service center.

BLADE CARE

For best results, blade must be kept sharp.Replace a bent or damaged blade.

TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.3. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade fromturning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with glovesand/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

5. Remove blade & attaching hardware(bolt, lock washer & hardened washer).

TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position blade on the blade adapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raised lugs on the adapter.

2. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (oppo-site sharp edge) is up toward the engine.

3. Install the blade bolt with the lockwasher and hardened washer intoblade adapter and crankshaft.

4. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten theblade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs.

IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is heat treated.

If bolt needs replacing, replace only withapproved bolt shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual.

TO SHARPEN BLADENOTE: We do not recommend sharpeningthe blade - but if you do, be sure the bladeis balanced.Care should be taken to keep the blade bal-anced. An unbalanced blade will cause even-

tual damage to lawn mower or engine• The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grinding wheel. Do not attemptto sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail intoa beam or wall. Leave about one inch of

the straight nail exposed. Place centerhole of blade over the head of the nail.If blade is balanced, it should remain ina horizontal position. If either end of theblade moves downward, sharpen theheavy end until the blade is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcher may be hosed withwater, but must be dry when used.

• Check your grass catcher often for dam-age or deterioration. Through normaluse it will wear. If catcher needs replac-ing, replace only with approved replace-ment catcher shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual. Give the lawn

mower model number when ordering.GEAR CASE

• To keep your drive system workingproperly, the gear case and area aroundthe drive should be kept clean and freeof trash build-up. Clean under the drivecover twice a season.

• The gear case is filled with lubricant tothe proper level at the factory. The onlytime the lubricant needs attention is if

service has been performed on the gearcase.

• If lubricant is required, use only Elf Mul-

l3 tis EP00. Do not substitute.

Change the oil after every 25 hours of op-eration orat least once a year if the moweris not used for 25 hours in one year.Check the crankcase oil level before

starting the engine and after each five (5)hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plugsecurely each time you check the oil level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to drainoil, empty fuel tank by running engine untilfuel tank is empty.1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on aclean surface.

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shownand drain oil into a suitable container.Rock lawn mower back and forth to re-

move any oil trapped inside of engine.

6. Stop adding oil when you reach theFULL mark on the dipstick. Wait aminute to allow oil to settle.

7. Continue adding small amounts of oil,rechecking the dipstick until oil levelsettles at FULL. DO NOT overfill, or

engine will smoke heavily from themuffler on startup.

8. Always be sure to retighten oil dipstickbefore starting engine.

9. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark plug.AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly andmay be damaged by using a dirty airfilter. Replace the air filter cartridge every100 hours of operation or every season,whichever occurs first. Service air cleanermore often under dusty conditions.

TO CLEAN AIR FILTER

1. Loosen screw and tilt cover to remove.

2. Carefully remove cartridge.3. Clean by gently tapping on a flat sur-

face. If very dirty, replace cartridge._,CAUTION: Petroleum solvents, suchas kerosene, are not to be used to clean

cartridge. They may cause deteriorationof the cartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Donot use pressurized air to clean or drycartridge.4. Install cartridge, then replace cover

making sure the tabs are aligned withthe slots in the back plate. Fastenscrew securely.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance, keepmower housing free of built-grass andtrash. Clean the underside of your mowerafter each use.

_CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire

from spark plug and place wire where itcannot come in contact with plug.• Clean the underside of your lawn mower

by scraping to remove build-up of grassand trash.

• Clean engine often to keep trash fromaccumulating. A clogged engine runshotter and shortens engine life.

• Keep finished surfaces and wheels freeof all gasoline, oil, etc.

• We do not recommend using a gardenhose to clean lawn mower unless the

electrical system, muffler, air filter andcarburetor are covered to keep waterout. Water in engine can result in short-ened engine life.

CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVER

Clean under drive cover at least twice aseason. Scrape underside of cover withputty knife or similar tool to remove anybuild-up of trash or grass on underside ofdrive cover.

_WARNING: To avoid serious injury,

before performing any service andadjustments:

1. Release control bar and stop engine.2. Make sure the blade and all moving

parts have completely stopped.3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT

The rear deflector, attached between therear wheels of your mower, is provided tominimize the possibility that objects willbe thrown out of the rear of the mower

Your engine speed has been factory set.Do not attempt to increase engine speed

or it may result in personal injury. If youbelieve that engine is running too fast ortoo slow, take your mower to a Sears orother qualified service center for repairand adjustment.CARBURETOR

Your carburetor is not adjustable. If yourengine does not operate properly due to sus-pected carburetor problems, take your lawnmower to a Sears or other qualified servicecenter for repair and/or adjustment.IMPORTANT: Never tamper with theengine governor, which is factory setfor proper engine speed. Overspeedingthe engine above the factory high speedsetting can be dangerous. If you thinkthe engine-governed high speed needsadjusting, contact a Sears or otherqualified service center, which has properequipment and experience to make anynecessary adjustments.

Immediately prepare your lawn mower forstorage at the end of the season or if theunit will not be used for 30 days or more.

LAWN MOWER

When lawn mower is to be stored for a

period of time, clean it thoroughly, removeall dirt, grease, leaves, etc. Store in aclean, dry area.1. Clean entire lawn mower (See

"CLEANING" in the Maintenance sec-tion of this manual).

2. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenancesection of this manual.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, and

pins are securely fastened. Inspectmoving parts for damage, breakageand wear. Replace if necessary.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paintsurfaces; sand lightly before painting.

HANDLE

You can fold your lawn mower handle forstorage.NOTE: The upper handle has an "anti-fold"bracket located on the right side of thehandle. This bracket prevents the upperhandle from folding forward, which helpsprotect control cable(s) from damage.1. Squeeze the bottom ends of the lower

handle toward each other until thelower handle clears the handle bracket,then move handle forward.

2. Loosen upper handle mounting boltsenough to allow upper handle to befolded back.

IMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essentialfuel system parts such as carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose, or tank during storage. Also,alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or usingethanol or methanol) can attract moisturewhich leads to separation and formation ofacids during storage. Acidic gas can damagethe fuel system of an engine while in storage.

• Empty the fuel tank by starting the en-gine and letting it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable al*ternative in minimizing the formation of fuelgum deposits during storage. Add stabilizerto gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizercontainer. Run engine at least 10 minutesafter adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer toreach the carburetor. Do not empty the gastank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.NOTE: FRESH START TM fuel cap andcartridge system automatically drips con-centrated fuel preserver into your fuel tankand is an acceptable alternative to addingfuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replacewith clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual).CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through

spark plug hole into cylinder.3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one seasonto another.

• Replace your gasoline can if yourcanstarts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in yourgasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors andcover it to protect it from dust and dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protec-tive cover that does not retain moisture.Do not use plastic. Plastic cannotbreathe, which allows condensation toform and will cause your unit to rust.

IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while

engine and exhaust areas are still warm._CAUTION: Never store the lawn mower

with gasoline in the tank inside a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor spark. Allow the engine to cool beforestoring in any enclosure.

I. OPERACION• Antes de empezar, debe familiadzarse

• Quitar equipos que funcionan con gasolinadel cami6n o caravana y repostar en el suelo.Si esto no es posible, repostar dicho equipocon un contenedor port_til, m&s bien que conuna tobera de gasolina.

• Mantener la tobera en contacto con el bordodel dep6sito de carburante o de la aperturadel contenedor siempre hasta terminar elabastecimiento. No usar un dispositivo decierre-apertura de la tobera.

Lea estas instrucciones y este manual comple-tamente antes de tratar de montar u operar susegadora nueva.IMPORTANTE: Este cortac6sped viene SINACEITE O GASOLINA en el motor.

Su segadora nueva ha sido montada en lafAbrica con la excepci6n de aquellas partes quese dejaron sin montar por razones de env[o.Todas Ins partes como las tuercas, las arande-Ins, los pernos, etc., que son necesarias paracompletar el montaje han sido colocadas en labolsa de partes. Para asegurarse que su sega-dora funcione en forma segura y adecuada,todas las partes y los artfculos de ferreterfa quese monten tienen que ser apretados segura-mente. Use las herramientas correctas, comosea necesario, para asegurar que se aprietenadecuadamente.

PARA REMOVER LA SEGADORA DELA CAJA DE CARTON1. Remueva las partes sueltas que se incluyen

con la segadora.2. Corte Ins dos esquinas de los extremos

de la caja de cart6n y tienda el panel delextremo piano.

3. Remueva todo el material de empaque, ex-cepto la curia entre eI mango superior y elinferior, y la curia que sujeta la barra de loscontrol que exige la presencia del operadorjunto con el mango superior.

4. Haga rodar la segadora hacia afuera de lacaja de cartSn y revisela cuidadosamentepara verificar si todav/a quedan partessueltas adicionales.

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORAPARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGOIMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango conmucho cuidado para no pellizcar o dafiar loscables de control.1. Levante los mangos hasta que la secci6n

del mango inferior se asegure en su lugar,en la posici6n para segar.

2. Remueva la cuSa protectora, levante la sec-ci6n del mango superior hasta su tugar enel mango inferior, y apriete ambas manillasdel mango.

3. Remueva la cuSa del mango que sujeta labarra de los control que exige Ia presenciadel operador junto con el mango superior.

El mango de la segadora puede ajustarsesegQn le acomode para segar. Refi6rase a"AJUSTE DEL MANGO" en la secci6n deServicio y Ajustes de este manual.

CONTROL DE LA IMPULSION• La autopropulsidn se controla manteniendo

la palanca de mando operador presenteabajo hacia el mango y tirando la barra deaccionamiento hasta la mango. Cuanto m&scercano se tire la barra hacia el mango, m_srApida ir& la unidad.

• El movimiento hacia adelante se detienecuando sea la palanca de mando operadorpresente o la barfs de acctonamiento sesueltan. Pare detener el movimiento haciaadelante sin apagar el motor, soltar s61o labarra de accionamiento. Mantener Ia palancade mando operador presente abajo contra elmango para continuar a cortar sin autopro-pulsi6n.

AJUSTE DEL MANDOOcasionalmente, el sistema de mando puede"aflojarse', provocando una disminucidn de lavelocidad. Hay un tornillo de apriete manualen la parte trasera de la sede del mando pareapretar la tensidn del cable. Proeeder de lasiguiente runners:1. Apagar la unidad y desconectar el cable de

bujfa de la bujfa.2. Rote tomillo de apriete manual ala izqui-

erda pare tenser el cable impulsor.3. Opere la segadora pare prober la velocidad

del mecanismo.4. Si Ins condiciones no mejoran despu6s de los

pesos descdtos (In velocidad hacia adelantequeda la misma), la correa de transmisibnest& desgastada y tiene que ser sustituida.

AMISO: Si el segadora comienza "a arrastrarse"delantero, el cable impulsor es demasiadotensado. Rote tomillo de apriete manual aladerecha pars aflojar el cable impulsor.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTELevante las ruedas pare el corte baj0 y baje lasruedas pare el c0rte alto., ajuste la altura detorte pare que se acomode a sus requisitos. Laposici6n del medio es la mejor para la mayorfade los c6spedes.• Para cambiar la altura de corte, empuje la

palanca del ajustador hacia la rueda. Muevala rueda hacia arriba o hacia abajo de modoque se acomode a sus requisitos. AsegOreseque todas las ruedas queden igualmenteajustadas.

AMISO: El ajustador esta correctamentecolocado cuando Ins orejas de laplaca est&ninsertadas en el agujero del mango. Tambien,los ajustes de 9 posiciones (si equipado) per-miten que el mango pueda ser movido entre lasorejas de laplaca.

PARA PARAR EL MOTOR• Para parar e_motor, sueJte la barra de con-

troles que exigen la presencia deJ operador.PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTORAVISO: Debido alas capas protectoras deJ mo-tor, una cantidad pequeSa de humo puede es-tar presente durante el uso iniciaJdeJ productoy se debe considerar normal1. Para hacer arrancar un motor fdo, empuje

el cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratarlo.Empuje firmemente. Este paso normal-mente no es necesario cuando se hacearrancar un motor que ya ha estado funcio-nando pot unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujete la barra de controles que exigen lapresencia del operador abajo en el mangoy tire el mango del arrancador r_pidamente.No permita que el cord6n arrancador sedevuelva abruptamente.

AVISO: En climas m&s fdos puede que seanecesario repetir los pasos deJ cebado. En cli-mas m&s calurosos el cebar demasiado puedeproducir el ahogo y el motor no va a arrancar.Si se ahoga el motor espere unos cuantosminutos antes de tratar de hacerlo arrancar yno repita los pasos del cebado.

• Los poros en los recogedores de cesped detela pueden Ilenarse con mugre y potvo conel uso y los recogedores recaudar_n menosc6sped. Para evitar este, rocie el recogedorcon la manguera de agua regularmente ydejeto secarse antes de usado.

• Mantenga la parte superior del motor, alred-edor del arrancador, despejada y sin recortesde c6sped y paja. Esto ayudar_ el flujo delaire del motor y extendera su duraci6n.

• Evite cortar el c6sped cuando est6 mojado.El c6sped mojado tiende a format montonese interfiere con la acci6n de acolchado.La mejor hora para segar el c6sped estemprano en la tarde. A esa hora este se hasecado y el _rea reci6n oortada no quedar&expuesta al sol directo.

• Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajustela altura del corte de la segadora de modoque 6sta corte soEamente el tercio superiorde las hojas de cesped. En el caso de que elcesped haya crecido demasiado, puede sernecesario el elevar la altura del corte parareducir el esfuerzo necesario para empujar lasegadora y para evitar sobrecargar el motor,dejando montones de recortes de c6sped.Para un c6sped muy pesado, reduzca el an-cho del corte pasando pot enoima del lugaranteriormente cortado y siegue lentamente.

• Cierto$ tipos de c6sped y sus condicionespueden exigir que un area tenga que seracotchada por segunda vez para escondercompEetamente los recortes. Cuando se hagael segundo corte, siegue atravesado (enforma perpendicular) a la pasada del primercorte.

• Cambie su patr6n de corte de semana asemana. Siegue de norte a sur una semanay luego cambie de este a oeste la pr6ximasemana. Esto evitar_ que el c6sped seenrede y cambie de direcci6n.

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLEIMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar quese formen depositos de coma en partesfundamentales deI sistemade combustible talescomo el carburador, el filtro del combustible,la mangura deI combustible o en el estanquedurante el almacenamiento. Los combustiblesmezclados con alcohol (conocido comegasobol o que tienen etanol o metanol)Pueden atraer humedad, Io que conduce a laseparacion y a la formaci6n de acidos duranteel almacenamiento. La gasolina acida puededanar el sistema de combustible de un motordurante el perido de almacenamiento.• Vaciar el dep6sito del carburante poniendo

otra.• Cambie el envase de la gasolina si se emp-

ieza a oxidar. La oxidacidn y/o la mugre ensu gasolina producir&n problemas.

• Si es posibte, guarde su unidad en un recintocerrado y chbrala para protegerla contra elpolvo y la mugre.

• Cubra su unidad con un forro protectoradecuado que no retenga la humedad. Nouse pl&stico. El pl&stico no puede respirar, !oque permite la formaci6n de condensaci6n.Io que producirA la oxidaci6n de su unidad.
