  • ROTARY KILN COMBUSTION SYSTEMS

  • Since 1912 Coen Company has specialized in the design, manufacture, servicing and maintenance of burner

equipment and combustion systems. With thousands of installations worldwide, Coen burner equipment and

combustion systems provide optimum performance in a wide variety of applications.

COEN FOR FLEXIBILITY IN FUEL FIRING SYSTEMS

The burner is an important piece of equipment on any kiln

installation, and it must meet the demanding requirements of many

different processes such as lime recovery, cement, magnesite, kaolin,

and a wide variety of other materials. Coen reviews the specific

requirements of these processes in designing the burner system

and provides a burner design that will deliver efficient and reliable

combustion. Even for a given process, wide variations in production,

fuel types, and material properties may require different flame shapes

to optimize material processing. To accommodate this need, Coen

builds into each burner system a wide range of adjustment to allow

the operator to maintain peak production performance at all times.

    COENFOR ALTERNATE FUEL CAPABILITY

A Coen kiln burner is well suited and proven for handling alternative

fuels. These alternative fuels can be burned by themselves or

simultaneously with gas or oil firing. Coen can provide a kiln

combustion system for many types of alternative fuels, such as:

    Petroleum Coke Non-Condensible Gases

    Producer Gas Methanol

    Coal Solvents

    Woodwaste

  • Features of the Coen Kiln Burner

    DUAL AIR ZONE:

Coen has developed the Dual Air Zone kiln burner for

optimum performance even with difficult to burn fuels. The

outer (secondary) zone can be utilized to transport solid fuels

or a tertiary zone can be added for this purpose creating a

three-zone burner. The inner zone incorporates a proprietary

spinner design which creates a recirculation zone to stabilize

    the flame.

    MULTIFUEL CAPABILITY:

The Coen burner is designed to handle gas and oil firing

simultaneously or in combination with solid fuels such as

    coal, petroleum coke, or wood.

    ADJUSTABLE DUAL ZONE GAS BURNER:

For precise flame shape control, Coen has developed the

dual zone gas burner. Adjusting the fuel split between these

two zones allows the operator to adjust the flame to suit his

    particular needs.

    OIL ATOMIZERS:

Coen can incorporate its full range of oil gun designs into the

burner, which can utilize steam, high pressure air, low pressure

air, gas or straight mechanical atomization methods. These oil

guns atomize wide range of fuels from diesel oil to heavy fuel

    oils, with excellent turndown.

    LOW PRIMARY AIR:

On kilns with coolers, the Coen burner is designed to use a

minimum of primary air to maximize air from the cooler and

    raise efficiency.

    PREHEATED PRIMARY AIR:

Hot primary air is a process which has been used on numerous

kilns to increase efficiency and help stabilize difficult fuels.

    RUGGED CONSTRUCTION:

All parts exposed to the hot kiln are built of high grade

stainless steel including gas and oil nozzles. The main

primary air tube is thick spuncast with no welds or seams.

Refractory coating for high temperature applications

    is available.

    COEN FOR TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP

A commitment to technical leadership assures that Coen can

respond quickly and effectively to the application and environmental

concerns that impact the rotary kiln user today.

With the aid of computer modeling and computational fluid

dynamics (CFD), Coen can assess the performance characteristics

of new kiln applications or modifications such as fuel switching.

Coens programs predict temperature profile, flame shape

    characteristics, and stack emissions.

COEN KILN BURNER SYSTEMS AND SERVICES

Since successful processing in a kiln involves much more than the

burner, Coens engineers are specialists in the design of complete

    kiln burner systems including:

    Flame safety systems

    iScan2 Flame scanners

Gas or liquid fuel piping control modules

    Spare parts

    Start-up and commissioning services
