Sabin, M.D. Department of Health & Human Services National Institutes of Health Building 16A, Room 102 Bethesday, Maryland 20205 Dear Dr. Sabin: In my summary of Rotary's work this year, I wrote that the organization had achieved reat p'ro£g~~in working out, with your counsel, the framework for the PolioPlus program, getting it adopted by the board and the trustees, devising a plan for its funding, and laying the groundwork for the task force. From the time you initially presented your plan for a polio immunization team in Jul., and M h 29, the date of our m di£i~ ro osa1, the make-up and task of t e_team underw£nt some change~in concept. The result is a program that recognizes that polio is a starting point for more aggressive efforts to improve child and maternal health care through immunizations. Hence the name has been changed, as I told you in Washington, to "PolioPlus--to Immunize the Children of the World." The administrative machinery adopted by the board and trustees will work very e ectively. The search for a team director will be concluded just as soon as possible now that ~e have Dr. Canseco's decision and those of the governing bodies. ' I hope, therefore, that you will reconsider your decision of June 27(and continue to provide advice to the effort an.~ist in the training~ the team director and members, as your time permits . .A. I see absolutely no impediment to the accomplishment of the objectives of the Rotary International Immunization Task Force through this reporting procedure; in fact, it will help to ensure its total effectiveness. As you do, I regret that we do not have a full team at the moment but I weigh the progress to date ...and the task ahead ...and I am encouraged that Rotary will achieve its goal.
