PROGRAM President Dawn Smith opened the meeting, welcoming everybody and commenting on the small numbers and the increasing darkness of the mornings ... Karen Jamieson read the 4 Way Test.

No Birthdays or Anniversaries this week. SECRETARY’S REPORT: Alan Sharp reported:

CORRESPONDENCE IN:

Request for a delegate to Rotarty International Convention in Korea (Marilyn Walter was approached and has agreed)

Leave of Absence for Deborah Braines

Note of appreciation from Wagga Regional Referral Hospital

CORRESPONDENCE OUT:

Letters to Op Shop charities (above: Secretary Alan Sharp, Treasurer David Brady & President Dawn Smith)

TREASURER’S REPORT: David Brady is preparing a cheque for Rotary Foundation. Members will be receiving an invoice in April to pay their subs before the end of the financial year.

DIRECTORS’ AND OTHERS’ REPORTS:

Max Chapman: RYDA was successful this year: 467 students over three days (though last year there were 660). Max said there were problems finding and paying speakers. Max later said, re the Op Shop Spectacular, that numbers needed to be confirmed. He hoped that this evening’s meeting would provide more details.

Deidre Tome: drew members’ attention to the information sheet she circulated re. regional Rotary Foundation activities, including the closing day for applications for District Grants (4th April); contributions to Foundation Annual Giving are down by 30% this year (remember 50% of our contributions to the Fund is returned to the club within three years); Lady in the Van polio fundraiser was successful; and PDG David Kennedy has been appointed District Rotary Foundation Chair.

Peter Gissing: reported that there was publicity recently in the Daily Advertiser re RYDA and the upcoming Op Shop Challenge [Rick Priest and Grant Luhrs looking appropriately fetching – ed.] Deidre is shortly to speak on 2AAAFM re the Op Shop Spectacular. Fred Loneragan: said that the current low attendance numbers reminded us we need to think about where we want to be (as a club) in three years. One possibility that was being considered was joining District 9700 with Canberra in one larger cohort. SERGEANT-AT-ARMS: Val Samuelson fined inter alia anyone who:

(filling in for Peter Brown) has had anything to do with insurance recently.

hasn’t been burgled recently.

is going away at Easter, or who has guests coming for Easter.

hasn’t paid for their Op Shop Spectacular tickets yet.

puts their lights on in the morning before coming to Rotary.

is having a cooked breakfast this morning. Cross-fines:

David Brady fined all those who had a cooked breakfast last week – he was waiting expectantly for his but it never came – was given instead to visitor Yifei Wang.

Fred Loneragan fined anyone who hadn’t got out of bed at 4am yesterday to see the space station pass.

David Gilbey fined David Brady for turning cross-fines into an art form, and then Val Samuelson for not recognising that the Club should embrace LGBTQ ‘safe schools’ education if it wanted to respond to Fred’s call for a more inclusive, up-to-date membership.

Fine total: $ 61.00

PROGRAM: Club Assembly chaired by President Dawn Smith:

1. The Graham Armstrong Trophy (for 100% attendance): should we have it this year, since the Club (and Rotary generally) places less importance on attendance? Or should we award it for something else? Sue McAlpin suggested that perhaps the award could be for someone who hadn’t received an award. Fred Loneragan and Dennis Blackett both spoke in support of attendance being recognised and an acknowledged indicator of commitment. Perhaps, suggested Fred likely recipients could advise the President before the Changeover – that is, it could be awarded on an ‘honour basis’. Fred and Sue moved that the GA Award stay in place and, for the time being, be for attendance.

2. The Garden Festival (Oct 30/31) management committee was determined: Angela Metcalfe, Karen Jamieson, Leanne Deacon, John Wood, Peter Brown, David Brady, Sandra Rootes, Bob Martin, Fred Loneragan, Dennis Blackett. There was further discussion of finishing the festival at 3pm (not 4pm) on the Sunday. John Wood wondered if Macca could be approached (eg. by Pres. Elect Helen Allen) for publicity. Val Samuelson suggested the model trains people might be interested in running trains on the day (she would follow up). A possible clash with Murrumbidgee Rotary’s Teddy Bears Picnic was not thought to be a problem.

Models: Annette Pollard, Jenny Newbound, Rae Loneragan, David Gilbey, Grant Luhrs, Rick Priest, Tim Stait.

4. Next Tuesday : should we proceed with a Vocational Evening? Dawn said nothing definite had been planned although a visit to the Thirsty Crow had been suggested. David Gilbey said he didn’t think the business was quite up to full running capacity yet and that it would be better to wait. Deidre Tome suggested the evening be the next ‘Sunset for Sunrise’ gathering. David Gilbey said if there was nothing specific planned at this stage, maybe it would be best to have our normal morning meeting @ Elements. John Wood suggested we could maybe go somewhere else for breakfast, but in the end members agreed to meet @ Elements, if it was OK with Adam [it was – he has to prep for a big event].

(above: Ray Goodlass & Peter Gissing)

5. Val Samuelson wondered why Sunrise is continuing to pay money to South Wagga Rotary’s hosting of Circus Qwerkus. Fred Loneragan and others pointed out that it was in part because of CQ’s help to people with disabilities.

LUCKY DRAW: Val Samuelson selected the lucky ping pong ball with Dawn Smith’s number. Dawn passed the wine to David Brady.

MEETING CLOSED: 8.30 am

Op Shop Spectacular Raffle Tickets Roster: Please contact Val Samuelson on 69216838 or Joan Skews on 69251702 if you are able to assist.

District Governance 2015/2016: District Governor Gary Roberts (Murrumbidgee) Assistant Governor Bryan Short (Wagga Wagga) District Secretary Marilyn Roberts (Murrumbidgee) District Treasurer Doug Conkey (Wollundry) Administration Director Sue Gordon (Cowra) Rotary Foundation Director Ian Simpson (Orange North) Membership & PR Director Russell Martin (Orange Daybreak) Service Projects Director Peter Gissing (Wagga Sunrise) Youth Director Fred Loneragan (Wagga Sunrise) District Governor elect Michael Milston (Orange Daybreak) District Governor nominee George Weston (Leeton) …and now for some drollery …

Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love, and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent!

A blonde approaches a stranger and asks what time it is. The stranger says, "11:45." The blonde says, "Really? That's so weird. Every time I ask that question, I get a different answer."

Donald Trump walks into a restaurant and is seated at one of the finest tables. A particularly voluptuous waitress wearing a short skirt and legs that won't quit comes to his table. "What would you like, Mr. Trump?" He looks at the menu and then scans her beautiful frame top to bottom, and answers, "A quickie." The waitress stomps off in total disgust. After she regains her composure she returns and asks again: "What would you like, Mr.Trump?" Again he thoroughly checks her out and again answers: "A quickie, please." This time her anger takesover, she reaches over and slaps him across the face with a resounding "SMACK!" and storms away. A security guard, sitting at the next table, leans over and whispers, "Um, Mr. Trump, I think it's pronounced 'QUICHE'.

A priest was preparing a man for his long journey into the night. Whispering firmly, the priest said, "Denounce the devil! Let him know how little you think of his evil." The dying man said nothing. The priest repeated his order. Still the dying man said nothing. The priest asked, "Why do you refuse to denounce the devil and his evil?" The dying man said, "Until I know where I'm heading, I don't think I ought to aggravate anybody."
