Volume 58, No. 25 5 January 2017 Meets Thursdays 6pm for 6.30pm at the Foundry Hotel High St, Golden Square. “Rotary Serving Humanity” President’s Report. Once again after much hype that is all part to the lead up to Christmas and New Year it is now confined to history. Where the year went one might ask and as the saying goes time does fly when you are having fun? We are now confronted with another year of which will undoubtedly bring moments of joy for some and unfortunately for many in our community quite a deal of stress and sadness. As Rotarians there will be no shortage of needy issues put before us to consider. We commence our year with the Annual outdoor buffet dinner at our place at 121 Allies Road. Hopefully if the weather forecast is accurate the evening of Thursday January 12 looks like being a good one. Not too hot! Aim is to eat around 7 pm so we might say 6.30pm for 7pm. However if anyone was to come early and visit the yabby dam you are most welcome. I will throw the nets in during the afternoon to ensure a positive result for anyone wanting a few crustaceans. With calculating attendance numbers I am going to work to the following formula. In the case of members -unless you let me know that you are not attending I will count you in as coming. If you are bringing your partner or any other additional guests please let me know. If you can get this information to me by mid -day Wednesday would greatly assist but still not too late by Thursday lunchtime to still give me some late numbers. Cost will be $25 as per normal and the profit we clear goes to boosting our Administration account. Remember it is BYO drinks, although water and tea/coffee will be provided. Also good idea to have your own drinks on ice as fridge space can get a bit tight with desserts, salads etc. If we do this about three times per year (self cater) it enables us to build up the account and at the same time giving members something back of some value for their financial contribution. Alternatively, it is fining people each week and running raffles with rather meaningless prizes. The following week on Thursday January 19 we are back at the Foundry Complex and our guest speaker will be Jamie Roberts. Jamie is a friend of Clive and Jennie Hughes who runs his own business making short promotional movies and longer documentaries. He will have quite a bit of interesting local film clips included as part of his oration so this should be a great way to get our year off and running. Jamie has just completed a promotional clip for our proposed IFCR world festival planned for Melbourne in January 2020. Our organising committee use this at the cricket festival coming up in Christchurch in 2 weeks. It was pleasing that Jamie was able to produce this for us here in Bendigo instead of using a Melbourne based company as my Melbourne colleagues would have done. We then front up to Australia Day which falls on our next meeting night. As well as our barbeque commitments at Lake Weeroona we are also contributing to the 9800 districts promotional activity. Our display will be centred round the Science and Engineering Challenge, hopefully with some real live students from Bendigo South East College demonstrating to the public what this is all about. bendigosouthrotary.org.au http://www.twitter.com/RotaryBendigoS Rotary Club of Bendigo South Signpost

“Rotary Serving Humanity”
President’s Report.
Once again after much hype that is all part to the lead up to Christmas and New Year it is now
confined to history. Where the year went one might ask and as the saying goes time does fly when
you are having fun? We are now confronted with another year of which will undoubtedly bring
moments of joy for some and unfortunately for many in our community quite a deal of stress and
sadness. As Rotarians there will be no shortage of needy issues put before us to consider.
We commence our year with the Annual outdoor buffet dinner at our place at 121 Allies Road.
Hopefully if the weather forecast is accurate the evening of Thursday January 12 looks like being a
good one. Not too hot! Aim is to eat around 7 pm so we might say 6.30pm for 7pm. However if
anyone was to come early and visit the yabby dam you are most welcome. I will throw the nets in
during the afternoon to ensure a positive result for anyone wanting a few crustaceans. With
calculating attendance numbers I am going to work to the following formula. In the case of
members -unless you let me know that you are not attending I will count you in as coming. If you
are bringing your partner or any other additional guests please let me know. If you can get this
information to me by mid -day Wednesday would greatly assist but still not too late by Thursday
lunchtime to still give me some late numbers. Cost will be $25 as per normal and the profit we clear
goes to boosting our Administration account. Remember it is BYO drinks, although water and

bit tight with desserts, salads etc. If we do this about three times per year (self cater) it enables us
to build up the account and at the same time giving members something back of some value for
their financial contribution. Alternatively, it is fining people each week and running raffles with
rather meaningless prizes.

Roundup from our Cluster Clubs….. The Rotary Showcase Programme 2016-17 – A New Initiative As Presidents will now be aware DG Neville John has initiated a Rotary Showcase Program for the District during this 2016-17 Year. Its aims are:-
1. To exhibit the wide breadth of Rotary District 9800 contributions to the local community and internationally.
2. To select the most appropriate venues and/or events within the district where Rotary activity can be showcased to achieve optimum understanding and recognition.
3. To fully utilise the operation of the Rotary Showcases to recruit new members to District 9800 clubs.
On that basis your District Rotary Showcase Committee has selected 3 excellent venues and dates to provide maximum exposure:
Bendigo – Around Lake Weeroona on Australia Day, Thursday 26th January, 2017. Melbourne – In the Atrium alongside Fed Square on Saturday 25th February, 2017. Echuca – At the Steam Rally on Saturday 10th June and Sunday 11th June, 2017.
In Bendigo we will have marquees around the Lake Weeroona boardwalk. District aims to borrow marquees from Clubs. District will provide covered trestle tables and Corflute signage, the latter to provide visual uniformity. There will be some requirement to group exhibitors.
