About the Reagan Centennial Celebration The Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration is supported by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation which was founded by President Reagan himself to preserve and promote his legacy of inspired freedom. The Reagan Centennial Celebration is privately funded with no taxpayer money spent on any initiative, event or program. The Reagan Centennial Celebration is honoring our nation’s 40th presi- dent from January 1, 2011 – December 31, 2011. About the Close Up Foundation Close Up is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization and our mission is to inform and inspire young people to be active and engaged citizens. Since 1971, we have partnered with teachers nationwide to give students the opportunity to participate on our unique Washington-based civic education programs. Program highlights for students include peer-to-peer learning, making personal connections to the historic sites in DC, interacting with key media and policy experts and meeting with Members of Congress. Partners include the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Interior, University of Virginia, Freedom Forum, C-SPAN, Center on Congress, Smithsonian Institute, National Archives, American Red Cross, U.S. Federal Courts, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Mt. Vernon, Library of Congress and more. RONALD REAGAN-CLOSE UP YOUTH CONFERENCE JUNE 19-24, 2011 Program Details: Sunday, June 19 – Friday, June 24, 2011 Program Focus: Students will examine the role of civil discourse and its significance to our democracy from the founding of the United States to the present and make recommendations on how to improve civil discourse in today’s political environment. Program Highlights: Program seminar speakers will include Reagan Administration Officials and cabinet members. Students will meet with current Members of Congress. Instruction: All students will be supervised by trained, professional Close Up faculty during all activities. Instructors will provide a supportive environment that fosters all students to learn, participate and engage in structured learning activities at key historical sites. Housing: Renaissance Arlington Hotel located at 2800 South Potomac Avenue, Arlington, VA 22202. Program & Transportation: The program includes all curriculum and instruction, hotel, entrance fees, meals, 24-7 security, in-town and round-trip transportation to D.C. Safety & Security: In addition to the instructional staff, students will be supervised by night monitors and have access to emergency medical care through our partnership with Georgetown University Medical Center.
