• Urban population of India would rise by more than 400 million people by the year 2050 and would contribute nearly 75% to India’s GDP by the year 2030.
• For this, the Indian government has come up with a Smart Cities initiative to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology.
• For good connectivity, we need a great network coverage. And for telecom coverage of international standard we MUST invest in infrastructure NOW.
ONLY Possibility: Combination of ZigBee, Zwave, OFC, WIFI, 3G and 4G

• Fuel cells was considered as potential alternate to diesel generators for telecom
backup power applications especially for the sites with long power outages (> 8
h/day)
• Advantages of fuel cell system
• Methanol (methanol-water mixture) based fuel cells was preferred over hydrogen
based fuel cells because of ease of liquid fuel availability, storage, & logistics
Compared to DG Compared to batteries
• Virtually silent
• Emission free at the point of use (GREEN)
• Reduce life-cycle emissions possible
• High efficiency
• No moving parts results in reduced O&M
• Improved reliability
• Provide longer run-times (Power and
Energy separately addressed)
• Operate over much greater temp range
• Improved reliability
• Reduced environmental issues associated
with disposal
Methanol fuel cell systems as viable option for Jio sites to reduce emissions compare to DG
