Safety Orientation

Page 2: Robotics Team Safety

What is our team safety philosophy?

• End your day in the same condition or better condition than you started.

• Know how to be safe through proper training.

• Keep your team mates safe.

Page 3: Robotics Team Safety

• Fooling around, practical jokes, running, or pushing are all safety violations.

• Do not use any tool until you have been trained on the operation of the tool.

• Tools must be used for the purposes in which they are intended. Uses other than the intended purpose are a safety violation.

• A clean workspace is a safe workspace.• Be aware of your surroundings.• Take your time, rushed or impulsive work is

unsafe to you and others.

P.P.E.Personal Protective Equipment

And its proper use

Page 5: Robotics Team Safety

What is P.P.E

• P = Personal • P = Protective• E = Equipment• Your PPE are the extra tools that are

required to ensure your safety. When using the tools you need to fabricate and operate your robot always wear the proper PPE.

Page 6: Robotics Team Safety

Clothing• Protect your body – Don’t wear loose clothing

when operating power tools or when working around moving parts.

Page 7: Robotics Team Safety

Shoes

• Protect your feet & toes - Wear closed toe shoes and socks.

• Working with tools and metal greater than 1 pound require that your feet are protected.

Page 8: Robotics Team Safety

Gloves

• Protect your hands and fingers - Wear gloves.

Page 9: Robotics Team Safety

Safety Glasses

• Protect your eyes – Wear safety glasses when working with any power tool, hand tools or soldering iron.

Page 10: Robotics Team Safety

Face Shield• Protect your face – Wear a face shield

when operating a grinder or chop saw.

Page 11: Robotics Team Safety

Hearing Protection

• Protect your hearing – Use ear plugs when working with a sander, grinder or noisy cutting equipment.

Page 12: Robotics Team Safety

Dust Mask

• Protect your lungs - Always use a dust mask when sanding or using aerosols.

Page 13: Robotics Team Safety

First Aid

• Know the location of a first aid kit and eye wash station or kit.

• Notify a teacher or adult mentor immediately in the event of an accident or injury no matter how minor.

Page 14: Robotics Team Safety

• Plan your task before you get started.• Know the dangers and prepare for them.• Make sure everyone in your group is on

the same page.• Use the Pre-Task Plan

Page 15: Robotics Team Safety

Pre-Task Plan• Who, where, when, how many• Are you ready to work yes or

no• Do you have the proper safety

equipment• Describe what you’re doing• Describe how you could get

hurt• What can you do to prevent an

injury• Everyone involved in the task

sign in if you join the group late review the plan and sign.

• Use the back of the PTP to record your successes or any notes about your robot.
