Evaluating Your EligibilityTo be eligible to apply to Roseman’s ABSN program, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field from a regionally accredited

U.S. college or university

• A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75/4.0 scale in the most recent 60 units of undergraduate coursework

• Advisor meeting to review transcripts and develop an academic plan

• Completion of 6 prerequisite courses

• Passing score on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

Evaluating Your Eligibility

If you don’t have a bachelor’s degree:

If you’re completing requirements for your first bachelor’s degree, don’t lose heart! Stay in touch with us so we can help you get the maximum benefit out of your coursework. This will help you to start the program as quickly as possible after graduation.

If your first bachelor’s degree was obtained outside of the United States:

You’ll need to submit your transcripts for evaluation by World Education Services (www.wes.org) or Josef Silney & Associates, Inc. (www.jsilny.com) to determine the U.S. equivalent of your foreign coursework.

If English is not your native language:

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) may be required.

Evaluating your eligibility

The best way to evaluate your eligibility is to talk to an advisor. During this time, we’ll do five things:

• Explain the components of the program in more detail, including online didactic (theory) courses, lab simulations and clinical experiences throughout Southern Nevada

• Review copies of your unofficial transcripts to see how much of your existing education can be applied to the program

• Create a plan for completing any outstanding prerequisites

• Point you in the right direction when it comes to the TEAS, financial aid and other parts of the admissions process

• Answer any questions you have that we didn’t cover

Completing your prerequisites

The majority of our ABSN applicants need to take one or more nursing prerequisites as part of the admissions process. For those who don’t have a healthcare background, taking prerequisites can give you a solid foundation in the sciences and help you start the program with confidence.

The following six prereqs must be completed with a grade of C or better:

Chemistry/Biochemistry with Lab (4 semester units)Human Physiology with Lab (4 semester units)Human Anatomy with Lab (4 semester units)Microbiology with Lab (4 semester units)Statistics (3 semester units)United States and Nevada Constitution (3 semester units; does NOT need to

be completed prior to program start)

Completing your prerequisites

At Roseman, we don’t offer prerequisite courses directly, but we work with you to identify colleges and universities where we accept credit.Roseman has a partnership with Marian University in Indianapolis, where 4 of the 6 prerequisites are available online in an 8-week, accelerated format through Marian’s Adult Programs (MAP). MAP courses are a great way to become familiar with online learning. Marian’s School of Nursing is accredited through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Other options for completing prerequisites include community colleges in your area. Your admissions advisor can provide more information on prerequisites and help you identify the best way to fulfill these requirements.

Taking the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills)

What is the TEAS?The TEAS is used by colleges to determine a person’s readiness for nursing school. The test is multiple choice and covers reading, math, science and English/language use. It must be completed in three and a half hours. Version V is required.Where can I take the TEAS?If you live in the Las Vegas area, you can take it at Roseman University! We’re a TEAS testing center in Nevada. Your advisor can tell you more.If you live out of state, visit www.atitesting.com or http://candidate.psiexams.com to identify a testing center in your area.How do I pass?At Roseman, the minimum overall TEAS score is 58.7%. The TEAS may not be taken more than 3 times per calendar year, and a minimum of 4 weeks must pass between each attempt.Does a passing score guarantee admission?Roseman’s application process is competitive; meeting the minimum TEAS requirements does not guarantee an interview or acceptance into the program.

1. There’s no magic number.Each nursing school that requires the TEAS has its own scoring requirements, and those can change over time. Your goal should be to do as well as you possibly can. You owe it to yourself and your future career path to give it everything you’ve got.2. You may need more prep time than you think.How much time can you dedicate to studying each week? Does it make sense to complete a nursing prerequisite beforehand? Our students typically need around four weeks to prepare, but everyone is different. Put together a study schedule and use it as a guide during the registration process. 3. You might not pass the first time.It’s not uncommon for nursing school applicants to miss the mark the first time around. Don’t let this discourage you! If you have any questions about how to prepare, contact your advisor.

Navigating financial aid

Here are three ways you can finance your degree:

1. ScholarshipsYou aren’t limited to nursing – money can be awarded based on a variety of criteria including gender, cultural background, geography, military service and more. Start the search early to meet as many of the deadlines as possible. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) mentions a number of student scholarship programs on their website. Avoid scholarships that charge a fee; there are plenty of free opportunities out there.2. Federally funded work studyIn work study programs, the check goes directly to you, and you can use the money however you wish. Positions are available at a number of places including Roseman’s main campus, local hospitals, school systems and community organizations. Once you’re a student and you’ve confirmed that you’re eligible, you’ll be able to apply.

3. Private LoansPrivate loans are issued directly to you and based on your credit history. The funds can be used to cover educational costs including tuition, room and board, books, student travel, lab fees, a computer, etc. Before going this route, make sure that you’ve maximized “free money” and federal student loan opportunities; federal loans usually carry lower interest rates.We also strongly recommend that you pull copies of your credit report to make sure it’s accurate. If it’s not, you’ll need to take the proper steps to get any errors corrected. You can get a free copy of your credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com/. The next step might be obtaining your credit score through one of the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian or TransUnion.

Applying for admissionTo complete your application for the Accelerated BSN Program here at Roseman University of Health Sciences. The application will be submitted using NursingCAS. Please note that the total application fee is $85.00 however, $45.00 is paid to NursingCAS and $40.00 is paid to Roseman (this may be called the “supplemental fee”). You must pay both fees to have your application processed.

As a part of the NursingCAS application process, you will be required to input all coursework information for all schools attended and fill out the appropriate transcript request form to have your application and coursework verified.Once you are made an offer of admission, you will be required to submit all official transcripts directly to the university’s office of enrollment. These officials must go directly from the schools attended, directly to Roseman at:

You will also need to request all TEAS Exam Scores taken within the last 12 months be sent directly to the University as well (unless you took it at a Rosemantesting center). You can order these using your ATI login information and releasing them through the results tab to: Roseman University ABSN

Lastly, once your application has been verified through NursingCAS and processed by the enrollment department, they may email you an invite to an interview that is held here in Henderson, Nevada. Interview invites are contingent based upon your Academic Achievement and TEAS scores. It is required that all applicants attend the in-person interviews as it is a vital part of Roseman’sapplication process.

Relocating to Las Vegas

Here are 3 factors to consider when you’re relocating for nursing school:

1. What do I have more of: money or time?If living close to Roseman’s campus is important to you, you might pay more in rent, but you’ll save time getting to and from the skills lab and your exams. If you have a strict budget for rent and other living expenses, you’ll have to be more open-minded regarding which side of town you live on. Visit Apartments.com or Rentals.com for rental prices in the Las Vegas area.2. Will I have a car?If you don’t have a car, it might be difficult to travel for clinicals. You’ll spend time in several healthcare facilities within the program’s 15-month time frame, and you’ll be assigned to a variety of shifts. If driving is simply not an option, you’ll need to live in an area that has easy access to public transportation.

3. Am I open to having a roommate?Many of our students choose not to work while they’re a student, so taking on a roommate can make the financial aspect of moving more manageable. Once you’re admitted to the program, you can search Roseman’s student roommate database to meet other people in your same situation. The sooner you’re able to submit your ABSN application, the sooner an admissions decision can be made, allowing you to get a head start on your search.
