STOP

Find the safest place to cross then stop.Stand on the pavement near the kerb or the edge if there is no kerb.

Give yourself lots of time to have a good look all around.Make sure you can see if anything is coming and drivers can see you.

Listen carefully because you can sometimes hear traffic before you can see it.

When it is safe to cross, walk straight across the road.

Do not walk diagonally. Keep looking and listening for traffic while you cross.

Where there is a pavement or footway, use it. Where there is no pavement, walk on the right hand side of the road to face the traffic coming towards you. 9

Wait on the pavement near the kerb until all the traffic has stopped before you start to cross.

Walk Facing Traffic: If there is no sidewalk and you must walk on the side of the road, choose the side where you are facing oncoming traffic.

Don't cross near or at parked vehicles.Don't cross at a corner or bend in the road.

Walking at night•Visibility on roads and paths is often poor at night.•Be seen - Always wear reflective clothing when walking at night e.g. Armband ,jacket.

•Also carry a flash light to  increase your visibility.•Be safe - Walk with someone else or somewhere where people can see you.

Do not assume that vehicles will stop. Check that they have stopped before crossing.

Safety awareness should begin from childhood, as it is difficult to impart awareness to a grown up a human. If safety awareness is imparted at childhood, safety will be a habit.
