Chesham Vale Brook
Flood Alleviation Scheme
Vale Brook Culvert
• Vale Brook runs underneath Chesham in a series of culvert sections.
• Culvert sections over 100 years old, brickwork crumbling and filling with debris.
• Worst sections of culvert expected to “fail”
(partial or full collapse/blockage) in 10 years time.
• Could cause structural damage to buildings above, as well as increase flood risk.
• Culvert too difficult and expensive to repair due to running underneath a large number of private properties.
Preferred Option
• Working with Chesham “Masterplan” by re-routing the culvert away from the town centre.
• Large sections of culvert to be opened. • Old failing culvert to be filled to ensure it is structural
sound.
Red = current culvert
Green = new open channel
Blue = new culvert where the brook needs to flow underneath infrastructure
