Family School Connection Family School Connection is a CMCSS parent engagement initiative designed to encourage parents to become active members in their child’s education. It includes the components below:

Volunteer Coordinator Volunteer Coordinators have been assigned at each school to streamline the volunteer process.

Parent AmbassadorParent Ambassadors will help other parents in their school become more informed by helping them better navigate the school system when they have a question or concern.

PowerSchool • OutreachIn an effort to achieve 100% PowerSchool parent utilization, I will participate in various outreach events throughout the community to offer parent sign-ups.

Connect U!Connect U! is a program of free classes and workshops designed to increase parental involvement. The classes and workshops will help parents develop the skills needed to implement positive parenting practices. It will empower parents to become effective advocates for their children and help strengthen the family-school connection. (more information coming soon)

II. New to CMCSS via a federal grant:

1. The goal is for every CMCSS school to have a paid Parent Ambassador that will receive a monthly stipend of $100. The parent ambassadors had their first meeting in May and reviewed Common Core, how the school system works, career academies and shares the information with the parents, It’s a monthly training process and we have also learned about navigating our schools and career academies, bus safety, zoning, inclement weather plan. As the training persists, your Parent Ambassador will be communicating information learned via the School Website, PTO Website and PTO Facebook Website.

2. Parent Volunteer Coordinator that are trained or going through training and will receive a monthly stipend of $100 also meet monthly. Roles of Volunteer Coordinator are Program Development, Building Relationships, How to Conduct a Needs Assessment ,Serve as liaison or connector between the needs and wants of the school and the volunteers, Develop volunteer opportunities, Recruit volunteers to fill those opportunities, Match skill and ability with tasks, Do ongoing recruitment, training, and maintenance of your volunteer program, Work with School Information Coordinator to: Publicize volunteer opportunities, To help recruit volunteers, Post on website and develop volunteer-staff relationships.

3. Along with a Parent Communications Representative, ( Not a paid position) each person represents your school and you , then meets with Dr B.J. Worthington on a monthly basis to discuss the school system, community roles involvement, school issues, etc. Please see the monthly question located in the front office of your school or on the PTO Website, PTO Facebook. Your Representative would love to hear your input, ideas, and suggestions,2 and relay your information to support our school and help make improvements or just give an explanation.

4. Volunteer Forms : Volunteerism is what makes the PTO work, and RoMS traditionally has a very high degree of volunteerism in the PTO. Some Schools don’t have a PTO, hence the Parent Volunteer Coordinator position through CMCSS. To get started volunteering is easy, just return the RoMS PTO Volunteer Form so that we may keep you up to date with information and volunteer dates/ times via email. You’ll find all the forms attached including the PTO Volunteer Form, PTO Membership Form, PTO Spirit Wear Form, and PTO board Member Position Descriptions. Your Volunteer Form will be stored in a file at the front office so you don’t have to file one out every time you volunteer. “Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless”. ~Sherry Anderson

About the RoMS PTO:

a. PTO Mission Statement : We are parents and teachers working together toward a common goal. That goal, simply stated is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work, enabling our children to do theirs. We Partner to help achievement, improving efficiency and effectiveness, building leadership capacity and Engaging the PUBLIC. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ― Nelson Mandela

b. Goals of PTO : 1. To build and improve communication within our school. 2. To raise funds in order to meet PTO Annual Budget Goals that support school curriculum and

enhancements. 3. Build Community Awareness & Support.4. Adding enrichment programs that will pay off in real terms for the success of our students.

d. PTO Accomplishments for 2013-2014 1. Purchased digital/analogue clocks for all classrooms and will need to purchase more with the

growth increase at the school.2. In the summer of 2013, RoMS gym floor was replaced with a new gym floor due to its age, wear

the projector screens in the classroom easier4. Purchased wish list items for teachers bi-annually to enhance and enrich curriculum.5. As growth continues to rise at RoMS the PTO is budgeting to purchase more classroom projectors

if needed.

III. RoMS PTO Activities :

a. Fundraising : As a non-appropriated fund and tax-exempt organization, we raise funds according to our bylaws, the State Charter, and to meet agreed upon annual budget goals. Fundraising permits the RoMS PTO to assist the RoMS community by filling needs not addressed through appropriated funding, and by sponsoring special projects that add value to the RoMS community throughout the school year. We always need the help of RoMS parents as volunteers to make this happen, and look forward to your participation. Some of our current fundraising activities include:

1. Selling Spirit Wear, Pom-Pom’s, Hawk wristlet key chains, and Holiday Hawk Ornaments.2. Monthly Family Spirit Nights with Local Restaurants.3. Selling Concessions at quarterly Reward Days. Page 5

b. S pirit Wear Sales and Availability : Spirit Wear is normally ordered once a month, although some items will be available for sale at school events such as the Open House, Parent Teacher Conferences, etc. Our arrangement with the vendor does require, however, a minimum combined order of 36 to submit for processing, so we wait until we have that many confirmed orders before submitting to the vendor. Spirit Wear order forms are available for download on the PTO Website and are accepted anytime until the end of the school year. If the Spirit Wear item you order is in stock, it is normally delivered to your child at school within a few working days. If the item is not in stock, processing may take up to three weeks to complete. Please return your order form to your child’s homeroom teacher with payment. (Look for new spirit item coming soon)
