In the Hallway

• “You better watch yourself, Jackson. Your brother’s not around to protect you anymore,” he taunted.

• “You can’t boss me around like everyone else. I’m not afraid of you,” I spat right back at him.

• “Hey Punk , watch where you’re going,” he stated, as if it were a rule.

Oh, no, no, no; not

Chad. Ever since 3rd

grade he’s been out to

get me.

Chad could beat me to a

pulp, but I can’t let him see fear in my eyes or

hear it in my voice.

Finally, he’s left! I was

beginning to think he was

going to back me into a corner and

push it.

When’s it going to

change? I wish he’d

just get over 3rd grade.

Champ (Inner Thinking)

What the heck! Trent has my back, and I’ve got his. Let’s get Chad and anyone else who gets in the way.

Champ (Inner Thinking)Whoa, what was that!? I was avoiding the cafeteria food today and now it’s all over me!

Chad “Food Fight!”

Champ (Inner Thinking)

Oh, no! The principal; and the grip she has on my arm is as strong as a vise. This is not good.

Champ (Inner Thinking)Safe! Move to a safe-zone. Got to give it my full effort to get back at Chad. Gonna win this one!

Champ (Inner Thinking)Retreat! Retreat! We’re being attacked from all sides. Move our group to the back corner, quick!

Principal“I’m very disappointed with you young men. I should call your parents, but I’m going give you

one more chance. Now, scram, and I don’t want to hear of any more trouble from you.

Page 12: RLA synthesis

Enough, I don’t want to hear it! Now get back to

your dorms, both of you.

Chad

“Watch it, Champ.”

Chad

“Someone glued me to the chair!”

Chad

You did it, didn’t you!”

Champ

“Nope. How could I have? We all came into class together,”

Champ Inner Thinking

I think the principal saw the glint in my eyes; please don’t have noticed.

Principal

“You, in my office.”

“I am fed up with this behavior. You have a three-day suspension and that’s final!” she

yelled.

“No buts. I’m going to call your parents to inform them of this latest

escapade of yours… Are we

clear?”

Champ

“Bu-”

“Yes.”
