DescriptionAn aluminum blind fastener which has a self-contained mechanical feature (a mandrel) which permits the formation of an upset on
the blind end of the rivet and expansion of the rivet shank during rivet setting to join the component parts of an assembly. Thealuminum mandrel is pulled into or against the rivet body, breaking at or near the junction of the mandrel shank and its upset end.
The dome head is slightly rounded and twice as wide as the body diameter.
Applications/Advantages
Dome head is the most commonly specified head style because of its low profile and neat, finished appearance.Aluminum/aluminum rivets have the lowest tensile and shear values of all break mandrel rivets. They should be used when
fastening materials with similar mechanical and physical properties.
MaterialRivet: Aluminum Alloy 5050 or 5052 or equivalent alloy. Rivets have no additional finish except for sizes #42 & 44 which are also
available painted white.Mandrel: Aluminum Alloy 7178, 7075, 5056 or 2024 or equivalent alloy.
Shear Strength Rivets shall have ultimate shear loads not less than the minimum ultimate shear loads specified for the applicable size given in theabove table.

Description An aluminum blind fastener with a self-contained steel mandrel whose mandrel head is completely protected and secured within theclosed end of the rivet. The head of the rivet body is slightly rounded and twice as wide as the body diameter.
Applications/Advantages
Closed end rivets are used where the adjoining back-plate cannot be accessed but must be kept weatherproof. The installed rivetforms a tight seal preventing seepage of liquid or gas through the fastener assembly. They are preferred in many electronics
applications because there is no chance of mandrel pieces falling into the work area on the blind side. Closed-end rivets providegreater tensile and shear strength than similar-sized open end rivets. They should be used when fastening materials with
mechanical and physical properties similar to aluminum.

CLOSED-END, DOME HEAD ALUMINUM BODY/STEEL MANDREL BLIND RIVETS IFI
Description A copper blind fastener with a self-contained steel mandrel which is otherwise designed identically to an aluminum rivet with a steelmandrel. The head of the rivet body is slightly rounded and twice as wide as the body diameter.
Applications/Advantages
Dome head is the only head style in which the copper rivet is offered. Copper rivets are not subject to tensile or shear strengthtesting, but meet the same mandrel break-load standards as aluminum rivets with steel mandrels. Copper is the most malleable of
the various rivet metals. It has a higher electrical conductivity than any of the other rivet metals which make it useful in manyelectrical applications. They should be used when fastening materials with mechanical and physical properties similar to copper.
Material Rivet: Copper Alloy No. 110.Mandrel: Carbon steel 1006 or equivalent, copper plated.
Shear Strength Copper rivets are not subject to shear testing (SAE J1200).
Tensile Strength Copper rivets are not subject to tensile testing (SAE J1200).
Mandrel BreakLoad While the rivet is being set, the axially applied load necessary to break the mandrel shall be within 600 lbs. max, and 400 lbs. min.

Notes on Rivet SelectionStrength- The tensile and shear strengths required for an application must be determined and a rivet selected thatmeets those requirements.
Materials- Choose a rivet that is made of a metal with similar mechanical and physical properties as the materialsbeing joined. This is especially critical in assemblies where higher temperatures and/or corrosive elements are present.Metal compatability helps reduce the risks of galvanic corrosion and material fatigue.
Grip Range- Measure the total thickness of the materials being fastened. This is known as the “rivet grip”. The gripranges of the most commonly available rivets are listed in the table below. Sufficient rivet length is necessary forproper formation of the secondary head on the blind side of the assembly. Multi-grip rivets have wider grip rangesthan standard break-stem blind rivets.

Multi-Grip Low-Profile Head Aluminum Blind Rivet/Steel Mandrel
B
ED
C A
DescriptionAn aluminum blind fastener with a self-contained steel mandrel. The multi-grip rivet design differs from a standard blind rivet two ways:(1) a section of the body shank has a slightly reduced outside diameter, and (2) the stem of the mandrel is pinched at a point above the
mandrel head. The head of the rivet body is lower and wider than a dome head (approximately twice the diameter of the shank).
Applications/Advantages
Multi-grip rivets provide maximum clamping action over a full range of material thicknesses while using the same rivet length. Thisallows flexibility in design, cuts production costs and reduces inventories. Low-Profile heads are usually chosen to improve the
product's finished appearance. They should be used when fastening materials with mechanical and physical properties similar toaluminum.
Material Rivet: Aluminum Alloy 5251 or equivalent alloy.Mandrel: Low carbon steel with a choice of coating: black phosphate or zinc with yellow chromate.
Shear Strength Rivets shall have ultimate shear loads not less than the minimum ultimate shear loads specified for the applicable size given in theabove table.
Tensile Strength Rivets shall have ultimate tensile loads not less than the minimum ultimate tensile loads specified for the applicable size given in theabove table.

Aluminum Blind Rivet/Steel Mandrel Multi-Grip Countersunk Head
DescriptionAn aluminum blind fastener with a self-contained steel mandrel. The multi-grip rivet design differs from a standard blind rivet two
ways: (1) a section of the body shank has a slightly reduced outside diameter, and (2) the stem of the mandrel is pinched at a pointabove the mandrel head. The rivet's head is countersunk at an angle of 120°.
Applications/Advantages
Multi-grip rivets provide maximum clamping action over a full range of material thicknesses while using the same rivet length. Thisallows flexibility in design, cuts production costs and reduces inventories. The countersunk head style provides a smooth offside
surface and sufficient clearance for moving parts which pass over the rivet head. They should be used when fastening materials withmechanical and physical properties similar to aluminum.

Steel Rivet/Steel Mandrel
COUNTERSUNK HEAD DOME HEADLARGE FLANGE
DescriptionAn all steel blind fastener with a self-contained steel mandrel. The multi-grip rivet design differs from a standard blind rivet two ways:
(1) the body shank has several circumferential indents equidistant from each other, and (2) the stem of the mandrel is pinched at apoint above the mandrel head. Three head styles are available: dome, large flange and countersunk.
Applications/Advantages
Multi-grip rivets provide maximum clamping action over a full range of material thicknesses while using the same rivet length. Thisallows flexibility in design, cuts production costs and reduces inventories. All steel multi grip rivets offer greater shear and tensile
strength than like-sized aluminum/steel multi grips and should be used when fastening materials with mechanical and physicalproperties similar to carbon steel. Dome heads are used in standard applications which call for maximum clamp-up and hole fill. Thelarge flange style is preferred when the rivet is seated in soft material. The countersunk head style provides a smooth offside surface
and sufficient clearance for moving parts which pass over the rivet head.
Material Rivet: Low carbon steelMandrel: Low carbon steel.
Shear Strength See above table for typical shear strength (assumes stem is in shear plane).
Tensile Strength See above table for typical shear strength.
DescriptionAn all steel blind fastener with a self-contained steel mandrel. The multi-grip rivet design differs from a standard blind rivet two ways:
(1) the body has a somewhat reduced diameter from the area under the head, extending about halfway down the shank, and (2) thestem of the mandrel is pinched at a point above the mandrel head. The head has a dome shape.
Applications/Advantages
Multi-grip rivets provide maximum clamping action over a full range of material thicknesses while using the same rivet length. Thisallows flexibility in design, cuts production costs and reduces inventories. Steel multi grip rivets offer superior shear and tensilestrength than like-sized aluminum/steel multi grips and should be used when fastening materials with mechanical and physical

DescriptionAn all stainless steel blind fastener with a self-contained stainless steel mandrel. The multi-grip rivet design differs from a standardblind rivet two ways: (1) the body has a somewhat reduced diameter from the area under the head, extending approximately halfway
down the shank, and (2) the stem of the mandrel is pinched at a point above the mandrel head. The head has a dome shape.
Applications/Advantages
Multi-grip rivets provide maximum clamping action over a full range of material thicknesses while using the same rivet length. Thisallows flexibility in design, cuts production costs and reduces inventories. Stainless steel multi grip rivets offer superior resistance to
corrosion than like-sized aluminum/steel multi grips and should be used when fastening materials with mechanical and physicalproperties similar to stainless steel. They are popular in food service equipment and boats. Dome heads are used in standard

3-Star Bulbing StyleAll Aluminum/Dome Head
DescriptionAn aluminum blind fastener with a self-contained aluminum mandrel. The body of the rivet has three longitudinal slits extending from
directly beneath the dome-shaped rivet head, down the shank but not completely to thehead of the mandrel. The bottom portion of theshank is not slit and has a slightly smaller body diameter where the rivet is snug against the mandrel within it.
Applications/Advantages
When the rivet is installed, the body disrupts on the blind side in a way that forms three petals which extend away from the mandrelhead. This makes this rivet ideal in out-of-round or oversized holes. The rivet requires less pulling force during installation than does astandard blind rivet which makes it useful in thin, soft or brittle materials. Each size has a relatively wide grip range and is corrosion
resistant.

Drive Pin BrazierHead
L

Description
A two-piece fastening system consisting of (1) a self-contained pin within (2) the body of a tubular-shaped rivet with a dome-shapedhead. The head is approximately 2-1/2 times as wide as the shank diameter. The top of the rivet has an opening through which the pin
protrudes. The opposite end of the rivet is enclosed but with two cross-wise slits cut into the body extending from the tip, up the shank alimited distance.
Applications/Advantages
Drive pin rivets can join two or more pieces of low-density metal without the use of special installation tools. The rivet is inserted intopre-drilled, aligned holes and is set in place by striking the top of the pin with a hammer so that the pin is flush with the top of the head.
This action causes the pin to drive through the opposite end and flare out in four directions creating a head on the blind side of thefastening. Drive pins have superior shear strength to standard break stem rivets because the pin remains inside of the installed rivet forits entire length. The brazier head variety offers a greater bearing surface area than the universal head. The rivets with a grip range of an
inch or greater may be used for fastening into masonry.
Material Body: Aluminum alloy 2117 H15 or equivalent alloyPin: Aluminum alloy 2024 T4 or equivalent alloy
A two-piece fastening system consisting of (1) a self-contained pin within (2) the body of a tubular-shaped rivet with a flat, countersunkhead. The head is countersunk at an angle of 100° and is a little less than twice the diameter of the shank. The top of the rivet has an
opening through which the pin protrudes. The opposite end of the rivet is enclosed but with two cross-wise slits cut into the body extendingfrom the tip, up the shank a limited distance.
Applications/Advantages
Drive pin rivets can join two or more pieces of low-density metal without the use of special installation tools. The rivet is inserted into pre-drilled, aligned holes and is set in place by striking the top of the pin with a hammer so that the pin is flush with the top of the head. Thisaction causes the pin to drive through the opposite end and flare out in four directions creating a head on the blind side of the fastening.
Drive pins have superior shear strength to standard break stem rivets because the pin remains inside of the installed rivet for its entirelength. The flat head style provides a smooth offside surface with sufficient clearance for moving parts that pass over the rivet head.
Material Body: Aluminum alloy 2117 H15 or equivalent alloyPin: Aluminum alloy 2024 T4 or equivalent alloy
A two-piece fastening system consisting of (1) a self-contained pin within (2) the body of a tubular-shaped rivet with a wide, trapezoidal-shaped head. The head has a very low profile and is approximately three times the diameter of the shank. The top of the rivet has an openingthrough which the pin protrudes. The opposite end of the rivet is enclosed but with two cross-wise slits cut into the body extending from the
tip, up the shank a limited distance.
The liner head variety is designed specifically to be used to attach plywood or plastic liners in truck trailers.

The double-locking system ensures that the mandrel remains tightly fitted within the rivet body, rendering it highly resistant to vibrationand water. The internal friction system with differential force load provides maximum clamp-up without deforming the materials being
gripped. This rivet is designed for heavy industrial use, including automotive, commercial vehicles, buses, railway cars, farm equipmentand electrical engineering.

DescriptionA blind fastener with a self-contained mandrel. The body of the rivet has a countersunk flat head and a shank which tapers slightly where
it meets the mandrel head. The mandrel is designed with two sets of longitudinal grooves that provides internal friction at both ends ofthe fastening. The section of the mandrel that protrudes above the head of the rivet has circumferential serrations that helps the tool to
grip the mandrel during installation. This top portion of the mandrel ultimately breaks away once the rivet has been installed.

DescriptionA two-piece blind fastener consisting of (1) a mandrel with a flared, hollowed-out head and a serrated stem; and (2) a self contained
tubular body with a head which has one of several shapes. The protruding head has a dome shape; the large-flange has a similarshape and is 30-40% wider than the protruding head; the countersunk head has a cone shaped bearing surface with a head angle of
approximately 100°.
Applications/Advantages
This structural rivet has greater tensile strength, greater shear strength and is more resistant to vibration than a standard break-stemblind rivet. The way the mandrel expands radially when pulling through the rivet body enables it to completely fill holes that are out-
of-round, and when the mandrel breaks it leaves a flush finish with the top of the rivet giving it greater weather-resistance than astandard blind rivet.
