Rivers have always served as the natural roads of our world, as an essential link for trade, transport and
travel. But rivers also connect people and cultures.
A look at the connection of people and cultures inspired us to unite beautiful classical music with a
fascinating river trip to fantastic European metropoles.
We are very pleased that stars like Juan Diego Flórez, Edita Gruberova and Michael Schade have accepted
our invitation and will crown this concert tour with unique performances in Vienna, Budapest and
Bratislava.
Furthermore, the Janoska Ensemble and Wiener Philharmonia Quartett will musically frame your day on-board. A River & Music cruise is a truly culturally
enriching and inspiring travel experience. It gives you the opportunity to spoil body and mind while
discovering several European metropoles at the same time.
We hope you find this trip a moving experience in many respects. My family and I look forward to
welcoming you on board.

the ability to shed new light on the familiar is a rare gift.Combine spontaneity, artistic fantasy and imagination, freshness, presence and eagerness to experiment and you get the „wiener
Philharmonia quartett“. this ensemble was founded in 1996 by Peter wächter exclusively with members of the Vienna
Philharmonic orchestra, together with the string trio, string quintet, as well as the Philharmonia Ensemble, enriched
with, among other things, wind. they all declare the volition to interpret the compositions of Viennese Classicism and
Romanticism. the ensembles thrive on the lifelong experience of the first violinist and his companions, from the inspirational
sound of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra and its world-famous conductors, as well as the special Viennese musical
interpretations and the many ideas of the members themselves.we would like to give you an extract from the programme in advance. a programme which could not be more fitting on a journey along the danube: Mozart‘s Serenade „Eine kleine
nachtmusik“, various waltzes, polkas and galoppe from Johann Strauss father and son and Joseph Lanner are the classic part of
this concert series on board the ship. also haydn‘s „Emperor quartet“ can be heard. the melodies in the ear, the landscape in the background - this chamber music, these outstanding artists
on board, that is true pleasure!

music already at an early age through their highly musical family. Subsequently, they received their first-class musical education at prestigious music institutions under world-renowned masters such as boris kushnir, Pavel Vernikov, Peter Čerman and alois
Posch. ondrej and Roman play violin, frantisek piano and Julius contrabass. through numerous appearances as soloists, with their
own ensemble and also as members of other highly respected formations, the members are already internationally renowned
and sought-after. not only their talent and family ties unite the Janoska Ensemble, but above all a common musical vision. with their virtuosity and improvisational talent, the musicians span a
musical range of popular classical works to original compositions to unique arrangements of genres such as jazz, pop and world music. In their diverse programs they achieve a very striking mixture that
constitutes the distinctive ‚Janoska Style‘. the members of the Janoska Ensemble have won awards at numerous international competitions and are considered outstanding musicians of the younger generation. with their broad repertoire and specific arrangements, they inspire music lovers of all genres. It is this

Edita gruberova
Juan diego flórez was born on the 13th January 1973 in Lima. the Peruvian owes his musical talent to his father, Ruben flórez, a singer. his mother supported him actively in his goals and his musical education. Initially Juan diego flórez focused on pop
and rock music. already at a young age he wrote his own lyrics and produced music. In 1989 he won the Peace festival in Peru,
which was broadcast nationwide. a year later, he landed a place at the Peruvian national Conservatory. the study of classical music influenced the young singer and directed his attention to opera singing. In 1993 flórez pursued his training in Philadelphia after he received a scholarship there. his encounter with the Peruvian tenor Ernesto Palacio eventually proved to be the turning point.
the experienced opera singer offered his support and invited him to joint appearances in Italy. In 1996 he succeeded with
Corradino in Matilde di Shabran, the definitive breakthrough of his career. Since then, Juan diego flórez has appeared at all the
major opera and concert halls around the world. Including the new york Metropolitan opera, the Lyric opera of Chicago, the
opera houses of Los angeles and San francisco, the national opera of washington, the London Royal opera house Covent
garden, the wexford festival, the Vienna State opera, the Salzburg festival, the Paris opera and many others.
E D I T A G R U B E R O V A Soprano
Edita gruberova is considered the Slovakian nightingale. She is among the most successful opera singers of our time. In
many interviews she has emphasised the thorny path to her breakthrough. daughter to a german father and a hungarian
mother, gruberova spent her childhood near bratislava. In 1968 the opera star graduated from the konservatorium as best vocal student of the year. In 1970 she received a contract as soloist at the Vienna State opera. In order to realise her dream, she made
the move to austria a year later with her husband. arriving in Vienna, her wish of a successful operatic career did not come true straight away. Edita gruberova remembers the difficult times and
the many critics again and again. but with ambition and strong will, she managed the breakthrough in the west with Zerbinetta in Strauss‘ ariadne auf naxos. from then on, Edita was no longer an outsider. In the following years, she conquered the entire Italian
repertoire. among her fans the soprano is also known as the queen of belcanto. Regarding the secret of her success, Edita gruberova reveals the following: „My repertoire is not as big as that of some of my colleagues’, who have up to 120 operas. I feel better in the
hundredth performance than in the third. It‘s like in life; every time there is something new in it. I now have the feeling that I have arrived at the essence of the character; the technique has already been working by itself for a long time, one does not have to think
about individual notes.„
