From the Pastor:

My dear friends in Christ,

According to the CDC, more than one third of Americans are not getting enough sleep. I know because I am one of them. It seems that the disciples were lacking sleep as well. Jesus asks his disciples to “come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile.” Coming in mid-summer, we often hear this passage preached as an encouragement for us to embrace a needed break from our work and stressful life. Jesus wanted his disciples to rest and reflect upon what they were doing. And yet, here is Jesus, allowing his heart to be moved with pity by the insistent crowd. Upon seeing them, He could not bring himself to rest. He, as only he could, began to teach. The crowd wandered aimlessly like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus became their shepherd. Jesus puts his own rest aside to tend to the needs of the people. How often do we put our needs aside to help others? Are we willing to imitate Jesus in helping others?

Speaking of help, after having listened to some of you, we have been in contact with Lifetouch about putting together a new Parish Directory. The last directory was done in 2010. We need volunteers to assist with this project and in particular a “point person” who will assist and correspond with the Lifetouch representative. If you can help in any way please call the office and leave your name and telephone number. The Evangelization committee will also be involved with this endeavor. “Get ready to have your portrait made!”

May God bless you all!

Father John

R. C. I. A. ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO … has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic?

Corpus Christi Parish offers an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our Catholic faith through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a process which provides for the preparation of the Baptized Catholics who wish to complete their initiation into the Church through the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmations and Eucharist and the preparation of validly Baptized Christians from other faith traditions, who wish to be brought into Full Communion in the Catholic Church. In addition, preparation is also offered for adult Confirmation candidates—those who have been Baptized and received First Holy Communion, but are still in need of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

To learn more about the RCIA, one inquiry weekend remains: August 18-19 in the Parish Meeting Room. For more information, please call the Rectory Office at 609.877.5322.

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING AWARENESS WEEK

Begins Today: Living Out God’s Plan for Your Marriage Why does The Church want to encourage NFP? Is it because she want couples to have as many babies as humanly possible? No! In fact the Catholic Church encourages people to be both generous and responsible stewards over their fertility. In this view of “responsible parenthood” married couples carefully think about the just reasons why they may have to postpone or avoid pregnancy. When making decisions about the number and spacing of children in their family, they weigh their responsibilities to God, each other, the children they already have, and the world in which they live. Responsible parenthood is lived within the structures that God has established in human nature. The nature of sex, which is both life-giving (pro –creative) and love-giving (unitive), reflects a Divine plan. That is why the Church teaches that husband and wife must not actively intervene to separate their fertility from their bodily union. NFP methods respect the Divine pland and are at the service of authentic married love. For more information about NFP education, please call Peg Hensler, 609.403.7156; [email protected].

RECTORY SUMMER HOURS The Rectory Office will now close at NOON, on Fridays only, through Friday, August 31, 2018.
