From Pastor Tony:

But, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. – Acts 1:8

Not long after Jesus said this to his followers, he ascended back into heaven. Jesus had given them a mission. Jesus had previously told them to go and make more disciples from all nations. They would make disciples by being a witness for Him in their hometown, surrounding communities, among people they didn’t necessarily like, and everywhere else they would travel. The circles would keep growing as the Holy Spirit would direct His people.

Yet, it would begin in Jerusalem. They’d be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be bold among their peers. The book of Acts tells the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit in power. After the Holy Spirit fell on them, they spent the rest of the book of Acts trying to keep up. The disciples would soon be dispersed due to the persecution they endured. God would use the persecution to result in the spread of the good news about Jesus to Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the world. Yet, it began in Jerusalem. Peter and his buddies were faithful witnesses in Jerusalem.

How about us? Are we faithful witnesses in our Jerusalem? According to the demographic website City-Data.com, in 2012, there were 24,075 people in Ohio County KY. Of those 24 thousand people 9,404 would claim NO religious affiliation (39%!). That number is up from the year 2000 when it was 6,078(@27%!). We have no way of knowing how many of the people who claimed religious affiliation actually know Jesus. My point is, we have many people in our “Jerusalem” who are not connected to Jesus.

For some, numbers aren’t compelling. It is easy to dismiss these statistics. However, please remember that each number represents a human. Our hearts need to break over those around us who are suffering apart from a relationship with Jesus. Are we being faithful witnesses of Jesus to those in our community? Honestly, we are losing ground. Thankfully, we know that God has promised that the Church, built on the foundation of Christ, will not be defeated!

Our problem is not necessarily poverty, drugs, alcohol, extra-marital affairs, gossip, etc… These things are symptoms of our primary human problem. Our primary problem is that so many are so far from God.

When we come to Jesus, we receive power to be His witnesses.

We are continuing to gather items for the Christmas Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. For March, we will collect quality crafts. Collection baskets are located at each entrance.

“Quality is important. A child will probably only get one box... ever…! You can see their excitement when they are waiting to get their box. They

deserve a box FULL of things that will last and not break right away.” – Linda D.

Example: “I collected and bought pillowcases from friends and thrift stores, and am turning them into tote bags. These are easy to do by cutting them in half, and then using grosgrain ribbon for the handles!” –Annette M.

Have you had a chance to stop by the BDBC Kids’ Area lately? Did you know we have a new logo and some exciting things happening?? It’s TRUE!! We have created a super fun atmosphere thanks to the hard work and generous donations of

some really fabulous folks!! If you have some extra time (and maybe a pair of sunglasses), please feel free to wander down to the revised BDBC Kids’ Area! We would love to share with you what’s been going on and what our future dreams could entail. You can even ask any of our awesome kiddos to show you around! They would love to do so! And THANK YOU, BDBC, for your love and support of our children!! Many blessings to each of you!
