December was a busy month and our students had many wonderful learning opportunities. A big thank you to our Leadership students for their help in many different areas. We counted on our student leaders to MC, act as stage crew and power point operators, as well as greet guests at the door and hand out programs during our four Christmas concerts! We hope our families enjoyed the concerts and found them a wonderful way to kick start the holiday season! December’s theme at Ripple Rock was kindness and our leadership students gave up many recess breaks to organize and prepare for our food and toy drive to support the Knights of Columbus Hamper Drive. These students created posters, delivered the messages to each class, collected the items each morning and gave up fun in the snow to help families in our community have a brighter Christmas. Also a big thank you to families for donating items… nearly 300 items in total! The Best School Ever… that is what we want our students, staff and families to think about Ripple Rock. And as we have joined two excellent school communities together, we see this as a perfect opportunity to create a fresh vision four our school. Staff and students have now brainstormed their ideas of what would make Ripple Rock the best school ever. We now invite our PAC and families for their thoughts and ideas. Attached at the end of this newsletter is a “Best School Ever” page on which we encourage our families to fill out and return. Please add your ideas of what the best school ever would look like, sound like and feel like. Please send this form back to school with your child to give to his/ her teacher. We are hoping to move forward with the ideas that come forth starting in February. Thank you for your help with this visioning opportunity! Thank you for your continued support, and all the best as we head into 2017 - a new, exciting year of learning! January
2017
January 30 is
Curriculum
Implementation Day!
No students in
attendance this day!
December/January Recognition Assembly In December our school-wide focus was KINDNESS and in
January we are all about GRIT!
Our combined DEC/JAN recognition assembly will be held
on January 25 at 8:45.. If your child is being recognized you
will receive a phone call the week before!
Christmas Concert Success!
We hope our families enjoyed our Christmas
concerts this year as much as we did! The students
worked hard to prepare their performances and they
brought smiles to many! We were thankful that the
school didn’t close on that Friday performance day due to snow and
we hope our families were all able to get out and see the show.
A big thank you to all the staff for their hard work in organizing four concerts, two dress
rehearsals and all the preparations. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful MC’s, power
point operators and stage crew! Your help in ensuring the show was a success and is very
much appreciated!
Movie Night! Thank you to the PAC for organizing family night at the
Thunderbird hall in December. It was awesome to see so many
families come out and enjoy the feature movie Finding Dory!
A big thank you to the Wei Wai Kum First Nations for donating
the hall that night, as well as all the local businesses and
individuals who donated items for the raffles. This was a
wonderful way to have fun and raise some money for our school!
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten registration week will be January 30 to February 3. If you have a child who is turning 5 this calendar year, please mark these dates on your calendar! Kindergarten students have to be registered before they can apply for cross catchment transfer to another school. Note the cross catchment transfer deadline for this year is February 10, 2017.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ROTARY STUDENT OF THE
MONTH—JADEA WILSON!
PARKING LOT Thank you to all who have helped us keep the parking lot a safe place, especially during the morning drop off.
Measures that have been taken to help with flow and safety include:
lines have been painted diagonally to help with backing out
Sandwich boards have been painted to help make “no parking” areas more clear
Administration has been present every morning to help guide traffic and watch the crosswalk
Many families are dropping off on Sierra
where there is little to no congestion (this
makes the biggest difference of all!). We
encourage more families to drop off on Sierra
in the morning!
Handicap Parking Spots We have two spots in our parking lot for those with disabilities to park. We do have students and
families who depend on these spots when they come to the school. If you or your child do not
have a physical disability, PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE DESIGNATED HANDI-
CAPPED PARKING AREA. THANK YOU!
Jadea Wilson is a very caring and socially intelligent student. Her optimism, zest and gratitude make her a student that others want to work with. Jadea strives to put her best effort into all of the many things she does. As an example of how much she thinks of others, during her acceptance speech, she said “I’m very proud to win this award. I also want to thank the Rotary for all they have done to make our community fun for all.” Jadea is a very socially responsible citizen!
Leadership—Toy/Food Drive
A huge thank you to our leadership students for
their work in organizing the toy/food drive for
the Knights of Columbus Hamper Drive this year.
Our students collected close to 300 pieces to do-
nate! Well done everyone!!

Thursday, January 12 at 3pm in the Ripple
