FRANKIE AVALON TO PERFORM AT GRAFFITI SUMMER CONCERT
AT THE GALLO CENTER FOR THE ARTS JUNE 9
MODESTO, CA – (May 22, 2012) – Actor, singer, and
former teen idol Frankie Avalon will perform at the Gallo
Center for the Arts on Saturday, June 9 at 8:00 PM for a
special Graffiti Summer concert. Avalon had 31 charted
Billboard U.S. singles from 1958 to late 1962, including
“Venus”, “Why”, "Just Ask Your Heart", "I'll Wait For You”,
"Bobby Sox to Stockings", and "A Boy Without a Girl."
Tickets for this performance range from $25 to $75. A 15%
discount is available for groups of 15 or more. For tickets
or more information, visit www.galloarts.org or call
(209) 338-2100.
Frankie has a long string of Gold Record Million-Seller
singles and albums. In 1959 alone Frankie had 6 solid hits
that were in the top 40 and his music became one of the
defining sounds of the “Pre-Beatles” Rock and Roll.
Frankie’s starring roles in the highly successful “Beach
Party” film series, are perhaps, quickest to recall and
include “Beach Party”, “Muscle Beach Party”, “Beach
Blanket Bingo”, “Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine”,
“Bikini Beach”, and “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini”.
Among the many honors that have been bestowed upon
this multi-faceted star, the ones that stand out are: The
Disk Jockey’s Association Selection as “King of Song” –
1959, winner of Photoplay Magazines Gold Award as
“Most Popular Vocalist” – 1959, selection by Box Office
Magazine in 1964, as one of the “Top Three Young Male
Stars” at the motion picture box office and named by Film
Daily in 1964, as one of the “Five Best Young Actors of the
Year”. But his induction into “The Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame” in 1995 was an acknowledgement of Frankie
Avalon’s talent by his peers and those whose music he
has influenced.
The Gallo Center for the Arts’ 2011-12 Premier
Partner is Boyett Petroleum.

I’ve been in the restaurant business for over
30 years, ever since I was about 17. I have had
experience in bartending to catering for many
parties in the bay area. Before Mario’s, I had
owned another Mario’s restaurant from ’84 to ’94
which is now called Nick’s in San Leandro. After
selling Mario’s I had worked along with my
brothers as a Chef at Dick’s in San Leandro. I’ve
been living in Lathrop for the past 4 years and
commuting to work every day but in the same
time I’ve been searching to establish my own
family business. Dick’s was later sold, and once I
saw the vacated “El Patio,” I knew what I had
wanted. My wife and daughters have been a big
help in the process of opening Mario’s, which
once was a McDonalds and a Mexican Restaurant.
Well it has definitely come a long way and we will
be making big changes to the place, little by little.
Many people are under the impression that
the restaurant is either Mexican or Italian but we
serve all-American food, from our popular
breakfast to our handmade burgers. We plan on
staying here for a long time, and love what we do.
We enjoy seeing the smile on our customers face
knowing they are coming hungry and leaving
satisfied with their meal. Right now we’re only
serving breakfast and lunch but
hopefully within the next few
weeks, we will start serving
dinner also, and we will be open
daily from 8am to 8pm.
