• WHAT? Strips of vegetation (trees/plants) next to streams and rivers
Why??
• 1. Limits flow of pollution into water
3. Provides shade; cools the water
4. Limits mud and sediment from flowing into water preventing erosion.
5. Provides habitat for animals

Point Source Pollution• An identifiable source of pollution that directly enters the water
• Ex. Pollution being dumped into a river via a pipe from a factory
• Ex. Directly dumping trash into a river
Non Point Source Pollution
• Pollution that INDIRECTLY enters our water through run off
• Spread out over large areas• Example: Fertilizers from lawn washed into a
river with the rain
